The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, on February 11, 2026, welcomed officials of the Plateau State Government for the official flag-off of the Mban–Gwiwakogi Bridge and its 5.8-kilometre access road, describing the project as a major milestone in the infrastructural development of the area.

The project was flagged off on behalf of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang by the Plateau State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Ubandoma Joshua Laven. The initiative follows sustained engagement and advocacy by the Local Government to address long-standing transportation challenges affecting communities along the Mban–Gwiwakogi corridor.

For years, residents—including farmers, traders, students, and commuters—have struggled with seasonal difficulties due to the absence of a functional bridge across the river. The situation often worsened during the rainy season, with tragic incidents recorded, including the loss of lives. The commencement of the bridge construction is expected to provide lasting relief and improve safety for road users.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Pirfa Tyem described the project as a turning point for Langtang North, noting that improved road connectivity would boost economic activities, ease the movement of goods and services, strengthen agricultural supply chains, and enhance commercial ties with neighbouring Wase Local Government Area. He stressed that rural infrastructure remains critical to unlocking the economic potential of local communities.

The Chairman expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for responding to the needs of Langtang North and for prioritising inclusive development across Plateau State. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to aligning with the Governor’s vision of expanding infrastructure to underserved areas and ensuring equitable development.

Hon. Tyem assured the State Government and the contracting firm, Craneburg Construction Company, of the Local Government’s full cooperation. He added that traditional leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders had been sensitised on the need to safeguard the project and support its timely completion. According to him, peace, stability, and strategic collaboration remain key to sustainable development in the area.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Works stated that the bridge project became necessary following repeated incidents at the river crossing, including the loss of seven lives during the last rainy season. He reiterated the Governor’s commitment to investing in durable infrastructure that enhances safety, promotes commerce, and strengthens regional integration.

Also speaking, the Member representing Langtang North Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Abel Nansak Nimchak, commended the collaborative efforts between the State and Local Government, describing the bridge as a long-awaited solution to a pressing challenge in the constituency.

With construction now underway, stakeholders expressed optimism that the Mban–Gwiwakogi axis will witness increased agricultural productivity, improved market access, stronger inter-community relations, and growing investor confidence.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by traditional rulers led by the Ponzhi Gani, serving and former lawmakers, members of the Local Government Executive and Management, the Deputy Chairman, a delegation from Wase Local Government Area, youth leaders, and other stakeholders.

The commencement of the project underscores the growing synergy between the Plateau State Government and the Langtang North Local Government Council in delivering tangible grassroots development.
