The United Arab Emirate (UAE) has strongly condemned the recent terror attack in Borno that witnessed the beheading of 43 farmers.
However, the UAE says the incident left over 100 people killed and numerous others injured.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The UAE, in the statement, expressed its utter condemnation of the dastardly act. Further, it restated its firm rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at undermining security and stability; in contravention of religious and human values and principles.
The Ministry also expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy with the families of the victims; even as it wished for a speedy recovery for all of the injured.
Meanwhile, the Presidency, on Sunday, November 30, stated that farmers who were slaughtered on a rice field in Borno’s Zabarmari village; should have obtained military clearance before resuming farming activities in the area.
This was contained in an interview granted by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu.
He said the federal government was sad about the tragic incident; but added that the “people need to understand what it is like in the Lake Chad Basin area.”
The Presidency claimed that though much of the area has been liberated from Boko Haram terrorists, there are still a number of spaces that have not been cleared for the return of villagers who have been displaced.
“The truth has to be said. Was there any military clearance from the military who are in total control of the area?”
Shehu queried. “Did anybody ask to resume activity?”
The Presidency emphasised that it had been briefed that villagers did not seek military advice before exposing themselves to “a window that the terrorists have exploited.
