Woman Weds Friend’s Former Lover After She Rejected Him Over Accent, Now Alleges Marriage Sabotage

A woman has recounted how she ended up marrying a wealthy businessman her friend rejected because of his accent and appearance, a decision that has reportedly sparked a bitter dispute between the two former friends.

The woman, while narrating her experience, disclosed that the incident began in 2023 when her friend was romantically involved with the man, who was then around 43 or 44 years old.

According to her, her friend frequently complained about the relationship, admitting that she was only interested in the benefits she received from the man despite having little interest in marrying him.

She explained that when she asked her friend why she did not want the man, the friend reportedly cited his dressing, appearance and Igbo accent as reasons she could not envision him as her husband.

At the time, the two women were living together, allowing her to observe the man’s frequent visits and his apparent affection for her friend.

She said the man was deeply committed to the relationship, but her friend remained uninterested. He eventually stopped visiting and moved on after realising that the relationship was not progressing.

About six months later, the woman said she unexpectedly met the man at a shopping mall. They exchanged pleasantries, shared contact details and subsequently began communicating on WhatsApp.

She disclosed that their conversations allowed her to discover his personality, describing him as humorous, kind, generous and caring.

The woman also said she later discovered that the man was a successful businessman who was financially comfortable, with a house and six cars, adding that his wealth had not been apparent to her during the period he was dating her friend.

According to her account, they began dating about six months after reconnecting and eventually got married.

She explained that she initially kept the relationship secret from her friend because she was uncertain about how she would react. However, she informed her after the marriage introduction had taken place.

The woman alleged that her friend’s reaction was hostile, accusing her of betrayal and repeatedly insulting her, including describing her as a gold digger.

She further claimed that her friend had been telling people that she had stolen her life, an accusation she questioned on the grounds that the friend had previously rejected the man.

The disagreement, she said, has since escalated, with her former friend allegedly contacting her husband repeatedly and making claims about her past, including allegations that she engaged in hookups.

Although she acknowledged that her friend might feel betrayed because she eventually married someone the friend had once dated, she maintained that the man had been rejected long before she developed a relationship with him.

The woman said she had made several attempts to resolve the dispute, including personally pleading with her former friend and asking other people to intervene, but the situation had continued to cause her distress.

She expressed concern that the repeated calls and alleged accusations were threatening the peace of her marriage, adding that she no longer knew what steps to take to end the conflict.

The woman’s account has raised questions about friendship, loyalty, romantic relationships and whether marrying a friend’s former partner amounts to betrayal when the friend had previously expressed no intention of marrying him.
