2027: Makinde Urges Christians to Shape Nigeria’s Political Future at COCIN Headquarters Jos

Oyo State Governor and African Peoples Party (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has urged Christians across the country to actively participate in Nigeria’s political process, describing the current period as a defining moment in the nation’s history.

Makinde made the call on Sunday during a church service at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters in Jos, Plateau State, where he encouraged Christians not to withdraw from politics despite its perceived challenges and negative reputation.

He said Nigeria had yet to work effectively for everyone, stressing that citizens who believe the country has underperformed must take responsibility for contributing to its transformation.

The governor maintained that Christians must make their voices heard and participate in shaping the nation’s future rather than distance themselves from political activities because of concerns about being associated with what they consider ungodly practices.

Makinde further urged Nigerians to prepare for what he described as another historic moment in the country’s political development, expressing confidence in God’s support for his presidential ambition.

He recalled that when he aspired to become governor of Oyo State, he had no influential political godfather backing him but relied on what he described as God the Father.

The APM presidential candidate said his current political ambition was similarly not driven by the backing of prominent political figures, expressing faith in God’s guidance.

One of the resident Minister of COCIN Headquarters, Rev. Dindam Audu Wuyep, preached on the theme, “Abounding Grace,” drawing his message from 2 Timothy 2:1.

Rev. Wuyep explained that God’s grace should not make believers passive but should empower them to fulfil their divine purpose, overcome limitations and remain faithful amid challenges.

He noted that genuine understanding of grace should produce humility, kindness, forgiveness and love rather than pride, reminding Christians that their abilities, positions and achievements are gifts from God.

The cleric also encouraged believers to extend God’s grace to others through service, discipleship and mentoring, stressing that Christians should not keep their blessings and opportunities to themselves.

He further emphasised that Christian faith does not guarantee freedom from suffering and opposition, urging believers to depend on God’s grace for strength to overcome difficulties and finish well.
