The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled 30 members for taking legal action against the party without first exploring internal dispute resolution mechanisms.
The decision was announced on Monday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Valentine Iyiegbu, following a State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held in Awka.
According to Iyiegbu, the action was taken in accordance with Article 21, Subsection 5 of the APC constitution, which provides for the expulsion of members who drag the party to court without exhausting internal channels.
He revealed that several of those affected are aspirants seeking the party’s tickets for National Assembly positions, particularly House of Representatives seats, adding that their expulsion may jeopardize their chances of participating in the upcoming primaries.
Iyiegbu stated that the SEC ratified the expulsions after concluding that the affected members failed to follow laid-down party procedures before filing their lawsuits.
He, however, noted that the party may reconsider its position if the aggrieved members withdraw their court cases.
The APC spokesman also disclosed that aspirants have emerged for all 11 House of Representatives seats and the three Senate seats in Anambra State.
Meanwhile, the party also approved the appointment of a five-member primary election committee headed by the State Organising Secretary, Izuchukwu Okeke.
