Husband Allegedly murder his Wife in Jos Plateau

23-year-old mother of two identified as Mercy Samuel has been allegedly killed by her husband, Samuel Mathew in Jos.

4wardwego blog gathered that Mercy allegedly had her abdomen ripped open and her intestine cut by her husband who is now on a run during a disagreement on Sunday night.

The State Project Officer, Women’s Right Advancement and Protection Alternative, WRAPA, Jummai Madaki who was trying to get support for the late Mercy before her demise asked all people of goodwill to rise and ensure justice for the deceased.

Madaki explained, “There had been some violence against her in the past as confirmed by her family but the husband’s family denied any violence. The man ripped open her tummy, remove her intestine and cut it before he disappeared with her phone so she could not call for help.

“They live in a small apartment so I wonder why no one heard her scream, we were told help did not come until the early hours of Monday when she was rushed to the hospital where she was placed on oxygen. An informant called my attention to the incident and we raise an alarm. Surprisingly, the matter was not reported to the Police. We were told by her parents that even as recent as last year, she was home due to some issues but the husband’s people came to beg and she went back.”

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Rebecca Sambo who also visited the deceased family house in Gyel, Jos South, expressed sadness over the incident and assured the family that the matter would not be swept under the carpet, stating, “The Police has been informed and action has commenced ensuring the young girl gets justice.”

She advised women to speak out once they sense any danger in their marriages and not give themselves over to be killed by violent husbands and directed women to approach the Gender Desks in Police Stations and report gender-based violence to the Desk Officers.

Kukah bombs Buhari again: You’ve destroyed Nigeria

Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, has heavily criticized President Muhammadu Buhari over insecurity, corruption and division in Nigeria.

Specifically, Kukah made his complaints known in his Easter Message on Sunday titled, ‘To mend a broken nation: The Easter metaphor’.

Also, the bishop revealed that every aspect of life in Nigeria has been destroyed while corruption is enthroned.

He said, “Our dear country, Nigeria, still totters and wobbles as we screech towards a dangerous and avoidable canyon of dry bones.

“One would be tempted to ask, what is there to say about our tragic situation today that has not been said? Who is there to speak that has not spoken? Like the friends of Job, we stare at an imponderable tragedy as the nation unravels from all sides. The government has slid into hibernation mode.

“It is hard to know whether the problem is that those in power do not hear; see, feel, know, or just don’t care. Either way, from this crossroad, we must make a choice, to go forward, turn left or right or return home. None of these choices is easy. Yet, guided by the light of the risen Christ, we can reclaim our country from its impending slide to anarchy.

Zulum advocates sustained prayers as insurgents surrender in droves

Borno Governor Babagana Zulum congratulated Christians on their Easter celebrations and encouraged prayers for the success of the ongoing struggle against terrorism and rebel mass surrenders.

Malam Isa Gusau, the governor’s Senior Adviser on Communications and Strategy, issued a statement on Monday, April 18, urging Christians; and other citizens to pray and meditate on the essential message of Easter.

He said the message was in line with the Borno government’s policy of welcoming bulk surrenders of rebels; who are subjected to security profiling, disarming, demobilization, and safe reintegration.

He said that the approach will ensure the state’s full restoration of long-term peace.

“To my understanding, some of the main reflections of the Easter festival are the importance of making sacrifices for the greater good of humanity; having the strength to forgive offenders and being able to re-emerge stronger from serious difficulties.

“In over 12 years of our battles with insurgents (Boko Haram and later ISWAP) Borno State, for the first time, has a golden window that has the potential of ending the insurgency.

“The mass surrender of over 35,000 fighters and commanders is certainly one of Allah’s many miracles towards healing Borno; and rest of the North-East.

“This mass surrender is a product of the endless prayers citizens across Borno, the North-East, the rest of Nigeria; and indeed the world have been offering, seeking God’s intervention to heal Borno State.

“It is the product of immense sacrifices by the Armed Forces and volunteers. It is a product of repeated calls by political leaders, clergy, elders and traditional rulers; asking insurgents to lay down their arms and embrace peace.”

“We must, therefore, be optimistic in welcoming the likely benefits of disarming, demobilising, rehabilitating; and reintegrating mass-surrendered insurgents,” Zulum said.

1st News reports that there is drastic reduction in insurgents attacks on civilians in Borno for the past three months; particularly the abduction of travellers along the busy Maiduguri – Damaturu road by the insurgents.

Meanwhile, the Theatre Commander of “Operation Hadin Kai” North East, Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa, said that so far more 50,000 insurgents; comprising members of their families and hostages have surrendered.

Forbes: 3 Nigerians make World’s Billionaires List 2022

Popular American magazine Forbes has issued its 36th annual ranking of the world’s richest people.

Compared to last year, 87 people failed to make it to the list. War has played a big part this time; as well as the COVID-19 pandemic; in addition to slow markets generally.

According to Forbes, there are 2,668 billionaires included in the list with 236 new comers; while 1,000 billionaires are richer now than they were a year ago.

America still leads the world, with 735 billionaires worth a collective $4.7 trillion (almost Rs867 trillion). This includes Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors, who topped the World’s Billionaires list for the first time; while China (including Macau and Hong Kong) remained number two, with 607 billionaires worth a collective $2.3 trillion (almost Rs424 trillion).

Surprisingly, Russia and China witnessed a major drop in the number of billionaires. In Russia, there are 34 fewer billionaires than last year following Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, while in China, a government crackdown on tech companies has led to 87 fewer billionaires on the list.

According to the Forbes magazine, Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries is the 10th richest person in the world, followed by Infrastructure tycoon Gautam Adani and his family, who claimed the 11th spot on Forbes’ annual world’s billionaires list.

Aliko Dangote who remains Africa’s richest man in Africa is the first African on the list at No. 130, ranking the  Dangote Group Chairman so for the 11th successive time.

His total earnings of $14 billion place him so. Globacom’s boss, Mike Adenuga, is number 324 and the second African on the list, with his $7.3 billion fortune. BUA Group Chairman, Abdulsamad Rabiu,  was listed at number 350 with his $6.9 billion fortune.

Railway Corp reveals NIN prerequisite to board trains from May 2022

Passengers who plan to travel by train should get their National Identity Number (NIN) ready, since it will be required starting in May, according to the Railway Corporation.

Mr Fidet Okhiria, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), indicated in Abuja on Thursday, April 14, that the NIN will be required to improve passenger profile.

This, he continued, will also improve rail riders’ safety and security.

“The process of linking passengers to their NIN for improved profiling is ongoing. This layer of passenger screening will commence by May.

“The Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) will resume as soon as possible with additional security measures put in place,’’ Okhiria stated.

Following a March 28 attack by gunmen who harmed passengers and kidnapped several; the Railway Corporation halted the Abuja-Kaduna line.

Okhiria stated that security officials were working round the clock to ensure that all abducted passengers were rescued and released.

He emphasised that when the train was assaulted, 362 passengers and 20 crew members were on board.

“While we continue to sympathise with families of those who lost or have not seen their loved ones; we encourage anyone still looking for a loved one to please call us.

“The numbers to call are: 08033546208, 08060044600 and 07066700150.

“The corporation will continue to update the general public of the latest developments,’’ he stated.

Okhiria added that the NRC had re-railed the last rolling stock affected in the attack.

“This means that all the 14 de-railed rolling stock (11 coaches, two rescue coaches; and one Locomotive engine on the Rescue Train) have all been re-railed from the incident site to our stations at Idu, Abuja and Rigasa, Kaduna.

“Intensive track repair work continues at the site. An advanced level of track repairs has been achieved and hopefully it will be rounded off in 10 days,’’ he explained.

“The NRC expresses its profound gratitude to security agencies for the continued support, especially for the security cover availed our officials and staff at the incident site,’’ Okhiria stated.
