Fwinbe Thomas Gofwan Memorial Foundation Launches Office In Jos to Combat Mob Lynching

Jos, Nigeria – July 1, 2025 — A significant step in the fight against mob violence was taken in Jos with the official launch of the Fwinbe Thomas Gofwan Memorial Foundation office. The event marked a solemn but determined moment as family, friends, volunteers, and community leaders came together to honor the life of the late Finbe Thomas Gofwan, who was tragically lynched in 2023, and to advance the cause of justice, education, and reform.

Bright Habila, Program Manager of the Foundation, unveiled the organization’s mission to curb mob lynching and mob-related violence, particularly in Plateau State. In his address, Habila stressed that the Foundation’s focus will include awareness creation, trust-building, volunteer capacity development, and public policy advocacy. “We are working to ensure that cases like Finbe’s never happen again. This foundation exists to promote a system where justice is served through lawful means, not through mob action,” Habila said.

Recognizing the nonprofit nature of the organization, Habila noted the vital role of volunteers. “We do not have the resources to pay staff, but we have something more powerful—people willing to give their time and energy to serve humanity. Our volunteers are the backbone of this mission,” he added.

Some of the Foundation’s planned activities include quarterly town hall meetings, community education campaigns in schools, social media advocacy using hashtags like #JusticeForPin, and police-community dialogue sessions. The Foundation also aims to train at least 50 volunteers in crisis intervention and conflict de-escalation. In addition, data collection efforts will help support a policy brief to be presented to lawmakers, with the goal of initiating stronger anti-lynching legislation in Plateau State.

Nenpominyi Gofwan—popularly known as Pee Gofwan and elder brother to the late Finbe—spoke movingly at the launch. He recounted the tragic events of September 25, 2023, when Fwinbe was falsely accused of stealing a car and lynched by a mob on Tudunwada Road in Jos. “That car belonged to him. There was no theft, no evidence—just blind anger,” he said. “Had someone stopped to ask a question, my brother might still be alive today.”

Nenpominyi shared how the immense pain of losing Fwinbe became a catalyst for founding the organization. “This Foundation is our way of turning pain into purpose. We want to ensure that no other family suffers what we have suffered,” he said. As a founding board member, he is joined by fellow board members Nenpominyi, Wakbul, Grace Ager, Tracy Kwanmen, all of whom have committed to using their time and resources to pursue this cause.

Volunteer Pokyes Dakon shared his motivation for joining the initiative. “Mob violence has claimed too many innocent lives. I joined this foundation to help change the mindset of people in our communities,” he said. Dakon emphasized the need to call in law enforcement rather than resorting to mob action. “When something happens, we must seek the truth and involve the authorities, not take laws into our own hands.”

Adding a personal touch, family friend Kit’a Emmanuel Dimka offered a goodwill message of encouragement and support. “Though the foundation was born out of heartbreak, its mission is powerful. I pray that all the passion and effort poured into this work will not go to waste. Even when there is no financial reward, I hope volunteers remain committed to the cause,” she said. Dimka concluded with a prayer that the mission of the Foundation would rise to great heights and help prevent such tragedies from happening again.

Daniel Obla condemned the rise of mob lynching in Nigeria, calling it a tragic trend driven by misplaced priorities and societal frustration. He questioned why petty offenders face brutal deaths while corrupt elites go unpunished. He urged grassroots education, especially in schools, to change mindsets and foster a more just society.

The launch of the Fwinbe Thomas Gofwan Memorial Foundation is more than just the opening of an office—it is the beginning of a movement rooted in justice, compassion, and a commitment to ending mob violence in Nigeria.

Re: Unnecessary Politicization of Senator Jang’s Esteemed Name

30th June 2025
The recent publication by Mr. Clinton Garuba demands urgent clarification, not for the sake of partisan squabbles, but to protect the dignity of a statesman whose legacy transcends the petty fray of local politics. While Mr. Garuba frames his narrative as a defense of Senator Jonah David Jang, he has, ironically, dragged the revered “Father of Plateau” into an arena wholly beneath his stature.

I. The Unassailable Stature of Senator Jang
Senator Jonah Jang is a national icon, an architect of modern Plateau, and a beacon of integrity in Nigerian politics. His leadership requires no validation through control of party executives or council appointments. His legacy is etched in the collective memory of Plateau — a legacy built on principle, not political puppetry. To imply that Jang’s influence hinges on endorsing LGA chairmen or “controlling structures” is to grossly underestimate his hard-earned moral authority. True leaders command loyalty through respect, not coercion.

II. The Grave Injustice of Trivializing Jang’s Legacy
It is profoundly troubling that Mr. Garuba and his associates have reduced Senator Jang to a pawn in the localized politics of Jos South. By invoking Jang’s name to settle personal grievances against Hon. Dachung Bagos, they commit two injustices:

  1. Diminishing Jang’s National Relevance: Jang’s wisdom is sought on matters of state and nation—not LGA chairmanship appointments.
  2. Weaponizing His Fatherhood: Positioning Jang as a partisan figure in internal PDP disputes alienates the very “children” he mentors.
This is not protection, it is exploitation!

III. The Persistent Vilification of Bagos: Ambition & Disloyalty
Mr. Garuba’s narrative conveniently omits a pattern of hostility towards Hon. Bagos dating back to 2014-2023 where he stood his grounds against injustice anti people’s policies even when Jang was incarcerated by the EFCC Bagos was seen everywhere projecting Justice. Bagos’ “sin” was not disloyalty-it was patriotism. His commitment to service (evidenced by consecutive electoral mandates) and respect for elders were deliberately reframed as “scheming.” When plots to pit him against Jang continued, his natural caution (born of repeated false accusations) was twisted into “hostility.”

Bagos is no saint—but he is a son of Plateau who respects his fathers. To claim he seeks to “drag power” from Jang is not just false; it is an insult to Jang’s discernment. A man of Jang’s wisdom cannot be so easily manipulated against a loyal son.

IV. A Call for Truth and Legacy Protection
We ask Senator Jang directly: Should your name be weaponized to destroy others? Should aides speaking “in your defense” stain your legacy with local grudges?

To Mr. Garuba: True loyalty to Jang demands elevating his name above factionalism. If Bagos erred, present facts—not fabrications. The people of Plateau see through theatrics. As you rightly quoted: “You can’t fool all the people all the time,” and they people are certainly not accepting the conning narrative by power seekers who consistently exploit Jang’s name against others

In Conclusion
Senator Jang’s place in history is secure. He does not need aides to “defend” him in LGA quarrels—he needs them to emulate his integrity. We urge all parties to:

  1. Stop exploiting Jang’s name for tactical gains.
  2. Resolve internal PDP matters without dragging elders into the mud.
  3. Honor Jang’s legacy by focusing on service, not sabotage.

Plateau deserves better. Senator Jang deserves better.

APC National Chairman Umar Ganduje Resigns

In a surprise move, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from his position, effective immediately.

Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, cited health reasons for his decision, stating that he needs to focus on his well-being.

Ganduje’s tenure as APC chairman has been marked by controversy and challenges. He was elected as the APC National Chairman in August 2023, amidst internal party conflicts. Prior to his election, Mr Ganduje served as the Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023.

While Mr Ganduje’s resignation letter attributes his decision to health concerns, sources familiar with the matter suggest that political tension within the party may have also played a role in his decision to step down.

Allegations of financial impropriety have also been linked to his resignation, with some party members reportedly protesting “excessive financial demands” imposed by his office.

Specifically, aspiring FCT area council candidates had complained about hefty fee requirements for receiving the party’s ticket .

Ganduje’s resignation marks a significant shift in the APC’s leadership, and stakeholders are eagerly awaiting further clarification on the circumstances surrounding his departure.

The APC has yet to issue an official statement on his resignation, leaving many to speculate about the implications of this development for the party.

Ganduje’s tenure as APC chairman was also marred by suspension and court battles. In April 2024, a Kano State High Court granted an ex parte order restraining Mr Ganduje from parading himself as a member of the party, following a suit filed by some party executives.

Additionally, a Federal High Court in Abuja struck out a suit seeking Ganduje’s removal as APC Chairman, filed by the APC North Central Forum.

Who Is Clinton Garuba on the Plateau as an Edo State Son?

In light of recent remarks credited to Mr. Clinton Garuba, we find it necessary to set the record straight and respond with clarity and responsibility.

It is both laughable and regrettable that Mr. Garuba an individual with no roots, stake, or legacy within Plateau State would attempt to insert himself into sensitive political discussions and stoke disunity among Plateau sons and daughters. His unsolicited comments are an unwelcome intrusion that reek of opportunism and desperation.

We ask plainly: Who is Clinton Garuba on the Plateau?
What moral authority or political capital does he possess to speak about leaders whose loyalty, sacrifice, and service to the people of Plateau and the PDP are beyond question?

Mr. Garuba is not a stakeholder in our political terrain. He is neither from Plateau nor a recognized voice in its politics. His attempt to use the respected name of our father, Senator Jonah David Jang, to give weight to his commentary is both disrespectful and disingenuous.

If Mr. Garuba and his associates seek relevance, we urge them to do so with courage and honesty not by hiding behind the name of a revered elder statesman who has labored for unity and justice within the PDP and Plateau State at large.

What Do They Want With Bagos?

The attempt to portray Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos a true son of the soil and a people’s representative as a divider is baseless, malicious, and insulting to the collective intelligence of Plateau citizens.

Bagos’ legacy is rooted in justice, equity, youth inclusion, and grassroots empowerment. His contributions are visible and verifiable. No amount of backroom whispering or sponsored commentary can erase the trust and confidence he commands among the people.

Let it be clear: The Plateau PDP is not a personal property or propaganda machine. It is a family, forged by the people and for the people. The era of monopolies and exclusion is over. The demand now is for inclusion, renewal, and generational leadership not for distant voices trying to dictate local affairs.

We therefore caution Mr. Garuba to respect boundaries. The Plateau political family is capable of managing its own affairs without lectures from Edo-based consultants acting as megaphones for disconnected narratives.

Our Stand Is Clear:
1. Plateau PDP is home to all who love and serve the people.
2. The voice of the people will always rise above sponsored noise.
3. We will not allow external meddling to destabilize our pursuit of unity, progress, and credible leadership.

Signed:
Coalition of Concerned PDP Youths in Plateau State

The NA added that clearance operations are ongoing in the surrounding areas to root out fleeing bandits and restore normalcy.

IGP Confirms Arrest Of 53 Suspects Over Benue, Plateau Killings

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said no fewer than 53 suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent wave of deadly attacks in Benue and Plateau States that claimed dozens of lives and left several others injured or displaced.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, the IGP described the June 13 massacre in Yelewata community in Benue State as a “coordinated attack of terror.”

Egbetokun said 26 were arrested for the attack in Yelewata, 22 suspects nabbed in connection with the Plateau incident, and another five in Benue for a more recent attack in Makurdi.

He stated that 47 persons were killed and 27 were injured in the Yelewata attack, adding that two general-purpose machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles used in the attack were recovered.

Egbetokun said, “As we all recall, on June 13, 2025, between the hours of 23:30 and the hour of 23:40, two militias invaded the Eluwata community in the Manuka Province area of Benue State, killing and maiming any soul on sight.

The invaders rampaged and pillaged the community, setting several houses ablaze and maliciously destroying other properties and properties of livelihoods.

“It was a coordinated attack of terror against the community. In this senseless barbaric attack, 47 persons were confirmed killed. 27 persons sustained various degrees of injuries, while hundreds of others have been displaced but not dead.

“The police and other security agencies responded with adequate deployment of personnel and resources, including the deployment of tactical units and special forces to restore confidence in the affected community and neighbouring communities. Also immediately deployed were detectives from our intelligence response team, who swung into action, launching a manhunt for the perpetrators of this heinous crime. I am pleased to inform you here today that 26 persons directly connected to this crime have so far been arrested and their weapons recovered.”

Explaining how the suspects were arrested, Egbetokun said two prime suspects were nabbed on June 19 from their hideout, adding that the prime suspects helped the police to arrest seven other suspects.

He said, “On June 19, two prime suspects who were masterminds of this attack were apprehended from their hideout. This arrest led to the arrest of seven other suspects the following day, 20 June 2025. They were picked up from their previous locations, where they had fled, hoping to evade justice.

“On 21 June, another key suspect, in whose house the pressure meeting to plan the attack was held, was also arrested. On 22 June, a major breakthrough was recorded with the arrest of 18 other suspects, who directly took part in the killings. On 23 June, our detectives recovered two general-purpose machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles, which were part of the weapons used during the attack.”

Egbetokun said all the 26 suspects arrested in connection with the Yelewata attack are in custody and have confessed to the crime.

He said, “All 26 suspects are currently in custody and have voluntarily confessed to their individual and collective roles in this attack. As I speak, legal proceedings have been finalised and they will be arraigned in court without delay. We will go after anyone, planner or executor, who attacks any community in Nigeria.”

In a related incident, the IGP also disclosed that 22 persons have been arrested in connection with the June 22 mob attack in Mangu, Plateau State, where passengers travelling from Zaria were brutally killed.

He said, “Similarly, on 22 June 2025, a heartbreaking incident occurred in Mangu, Plateau State, where a bus conveying passengers from Zaria was stopped and attacked by a mob. Tragically, nine of the passengers were murdered, and three sustained injuries before our teams could intervene and rescue the remaining 22 victims.

“So far, 22 suspects have also been arrested in connection with this gruesome act of mob violence. These, too, will face the full weight of the law in court.”

The police boss further revealed the arrest of five persons in Makurdi, Benue State capital, for their alleged involvement in the killing of two truck travellers in the Agan area on June 23.

Egbetokun said, “Again, yesterday, 23 June 2025, another ugly incident was recorded in Benue State, where two persons travelling in a truck were killed at Agan area, North Bank, Makurdi.

“Five persons connected to this crime have also been arrested and will also be made to face the full weight of the law.”

Decrying the trend of reprisal attacks in the country, the IG warned that the police would leave no stone unturned to arrest perpetrators.

He called on Nigerians to reject violence and embrace peace regardless of ethnic or religious affiliations.

Egbetokun said, “The recent trend of reprisal killings, where innocent citizens are murdered in retaliation for crimes committed by others, is barbaric, senseless, and dangerous. It does not bring justice.

“We will go after anyone, planner or executor, who attacks any community in Nigeria. We will leave no stone unturned until justice is served,” the police chief declared.

He said police were doing a lot to mop up arms everywhere. “Almost on a daily basis, we recover arms,” he said.

“In the Yelwata incident, we made arrests and we recovered arms. The police are doing a lot on border security,” he said.

He warned police officers who drop the name of the IGP to perpetrate illegality to desist or face the wrath of the law.

The IGP said he would not arrest anyone who abuses public officials, but would not fail to arrest anyone who publishes falsehoods against any Nigerian.

“I have been abused on a regular basis on the internet. I don’t care if you abuse me. But we will arrest anyone who publishes falsehoods against any public official,” he added.

Abuja Pastor Lands In Police Custody Over Alleged Defilement Of 14-Year-Old Girl

Amos Isah, the founder and lead pastor of Prophetic Victory Voice of Fire Ministry in Gwagwalada, Abuja, has been arrested and detained by the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) over allegations of defiling a 14-year-old girl, according to Sahara Reporters.

The arrest, which took place last week, has sent shockwaves through the community, as Pastor Isah was known for his charismatic sermons and claims of divine power.

His church, located behind Noble Noel Academy, opposite the Gwagwalada Market in Abuja, has been a centre of worship for many residents.

A review of his Facebook page shows that Isah frequently posts messages on holiness and moral uprightness.

Checks revealed that the last service conducted by the cleric at his church took place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

The following day, June 19, a service was held at the church, but Pastor Isah was notably absent from the pulpit.

On his Facebook page, Pastor Isah’s intro states that the “purposes of this page is (sic) to touch lives as the Holy Spirit leads because God has given me power.”

On June 15, Father’s Day, he posted on Facebook, “Dear God, thank you for the gift of fatherhood. We pray for all fathers and those hoping to become fathers. May You give them the strength to be a vessel of Your love. HAPPY FATHER’S DAY.”

In a post on June 11, he said, “The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, but the righteous are bold as a lion” (Proverbs 28:1, NASB). We need the Holy Spirit’s help any time we stand up for Jesus; it is His strength that we must lean on. We need His boldness and courage to be light in a dark world if we are to be a mouthpiece for Him.”

However, authorities have informed sources that he abused his spiritual influence to exploit a minor.

Sources within the FCID confirm that the victim, a 14-year-old girl, was allegedly sexually assaulted by Isah, leading to his arrest.

Attempts to reach the cleric for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls to his mobile phone.
