Oluwo Bans Alcohol Within Palace Premises

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has announced a ban on the consumption of alcohol within his palace and its surrounding premises.

The monarch made the declaration on Saturday during a meeting with palace staff held to mark his 58th birthday.

In a video shared by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, Oba Akanbi said the decision was aimed at maintaining the sanctity of the palace.

Speaking in Yoruba while addressing individuals seated in front of the palace, the king said, “This palace belongs to Olodumare, and there is a mosque over there. We want to get instant answers to our prayers. If you want to make something holy, you must start by making yourself holy first.”

Oba Akanbi stated that the ban was not intended to punish but to inspire personal transformation among those who frequent the palace.

“I am taking this decision for you to become someone I will be proud to associate with. If you want to drink alcohol, I beg of you, go outside this premises. Go behind this fence. Go there and drink it, not here.

“We are preaching holiness. Anything that has to do with alcohol should not be touched on the premises. Anything against God should leave this premises.”

Court Serves INEC Chair Yakubu With Form 48 Over Contempt Charge

The Federal High Court in Abuja has served the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, with a copy of the contempt proceeding that was initiated against him by the National Rescue Mission, NRM.

A bailiff of the court, Ayuba Sule, served the Form 48 at the National Headquarters of the electoral body in Abuja, in line with a ruling that Justice Obiora Egwuatu delivered on June 17.

Service of the Form 48, which is a notice of the consequences of disobedience of a valid court order, is the first step in a contempt and committal proceeding.

The court had ordered that the processes should be served on the INEC Chairman through substituted means.

Meanwhile, the NRM, in a statement that was signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Anselem Chinedu Nebeife, disclosed that though officials at the INEC headquarters declined to accept the service, the bailiff dropped it at the legal department of the commission.

“Mr Ayuba first got to the INEC Chairman’s office, but his staff requested him to identify himself. Ayuba obliged them with his official identity card, and after reading the content of the document he handed over to them, they quickly gave it back to him and told him to visit the legal department.

“On getting to the legal department, another drama ensued involving Ayuba and another INEC staff.

“Upon handing over the document to the staff, the said staff stealthily scanned through and speedily returned it.

“Angered by their disposition, Ayuba dropped the court order and the accompanying Form 48 in front of the legal department and left the commission,” the statement added.

Justice Egwuatu gave the order for substituted service of the documents on the INEC Chairman after he heard an ex parte motion that was brought before the court by the NRM.

Moving the motion, counsel to the NRM, Mr Oladimeji Ekengba, alleged that INEC and its Chairman spurned an order of mandamus the court made on March 5, which directed them to accept the outcome of an emergency convention that produced the Chief Edozie Njoku-led executives of the party.

Ekengba said the essence of the emergency convention which was held on January 17 was to fill vacancies and correct lopsidedness in the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NRM.

“That the Respondent is aware that the emergency convention, the subject matter of the judgement, was held on 17th January, 2025, even by its own processes before this Honourable Court.

“Notwithstanding that the Judgement Debtor/Respondent’s Counsel by name M.A. Bawa was in Court when the Judgement was delivered, the Judgement Creditor took the pain to still serve the Judgement Debtor/Respondent with a copy of the Enrolled Order of the Judgement.

“Despite being aware, the Judgement Debtor (INEC) refused to comply with the judgement of this Honourable Court to date.

“In order not to reduce this Honourable Court to a toothless bulldog and also to enhance the cause of justice, the Registrar of this Honourable Court, on the application of the Judgement Creditor, issued FORM 48 to be served on the Chairman of the Respondent in order for him to show cause why he should not be committed to prison for failing to comply with the judgement of this Honourable Court,” the NRM added in an affidavit it filed in support of the motion.

It said the application for the processes to be served on Prof. Mahmood through substituted means was owing to the fact that it would be impossible to hand the processes to him personally.

“That I know that the Bailiff of this Court will not be able to serve the Chairman of the Respondent/Judgement Debtor the Form 48 personally, as the Respondent only receives processes at the gate at a designated registry at Plot 430, Zambezi Crescent Off Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja.

“That the Judgement Debtor/Respondent’s Chairman placed numerous protocols, and the bailiff of this Court will not be able to serve him the Form 48 issued by this Honourable Court.

“From the disposition of the Judgement Debtor/Respondent, it is practically impossible to serve its Chairman with the FORM 48 personally as required by law, hence this application,” the affidavit, which was deposed to by one Mr Adebayo Wasiu, further read.

The court subsequently adjourned the case till July 15 for mention.

Nature Bee Responds to Critics Over Gospel Release, Promises Consistency and Inspiration

In the face of rising criticism following his recent gospel release Chukwu Dubem, Nature Bee has responded with humility and maturity, urging fans and critics to look beyond genre and focus on the message of the music.

Many fans were surprised by the sudden switch from hip-hop to gospel, especially after years of silence. However, the rapper has explained that the song reflects a season of his life where he found peace and divine direction, not a shift in identity.

“Music is a form of expression, and as an artist, I should be free to explore every part of my creativity,” Nature Bee said. “Chukwu Dubem came from a deep place. It’s not about trying to trend; it’s about being truthful in the message.”

Nature Bee isn’t the first rapper to venture into gospel. He joins a list that includes M.I Abaga, who once released Jehovah, and Phyno, who moved many with Father Father. These tracks proved that a moment of spiritual reflection doesn’t erase an artist’s past or talent.

The rapper acknowledges that his long absence after Change on Me and Your Face with Tekno may have left fans confused and disappointed. Still, he believes that time helped him rediscover his voice and purpose.

“I’ve been through a lot, and in those quiet seasons, I found peace in God,” he said. “That peace inspired the song. It’s something I needed to share with my fans, regardless of genre.”

Nature Bee says the silence is over and fans can expect consistency going forward. Whether gospel, rap, or something in between, he promises to deliver music that resonates and uplifts.

“If M.I, who is widely respected in hip-hop, can drop a gospel-inspired track and still be M.I, then why can’t I?” he asked. “Phyno did Father Father and no one questioned his place in the game. The truth is, inspiration leads us where it wants, and real artists follow.”

INEC Debunks Rumours of New Political Party Registrations

Abuja, Nigeria – June 18, 2025

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media and other platforms claiming that two new political parties—Independent Democrats and Peoples Democratic Movement—have been registered.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, INEC categorically described the information as fake news, urging the public to disregard the misleading report.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission has not yet registered any new party. The current number of registered political parties in Nigeria remains 19. Nothing has been added,” the Commission stated.

INEC further clarified that both the Independent Democrats and Peoples Democratic Movement were formerly registered in August 2013 but were deregistered in February 2020 in line with Section 225A of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and adherence to due process in political party registration, warning purveyors of fake news to desist from spreading falsehoods capable of misleading the public.

WhatsApp Introduces New Monetisation Features For Channels, Status

WhatsApp has introduced new monetisation features that allow businesses and creators to earn directly from their content on the app.

In a blog post on Monday, the platform announced that the tools will be limited to the updates tab, which houses status and channels.

“Today we’re introducing some new features for our Updates tab, which is home to both Channels and Status,” the post reads.

“These new features will appear only on the Updates tab, away from your personal chats.”

Among the new features is channel subscription, which allows users to support their favourite creators by paying a monthly fee for exclusive content.

The company also unveiled ‘Promoted Channels,’ a tool that lets admins boost their visibility by appearing as recommendations when users explore the channel directory.

The third feature, Ads in Status, will integrate advertisements within the status section to enable businesses to promote products or services and facilitate direct conversations with interested users.

WhatsApp said ad targeting will rely on limited data, such as a user’s location, language, and interactions within the Updates tab.

According to the company, those who link their WhatsApp to Meta’s accounts centre may also see ads based on their activity across Meta platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

The company stressed that end-to-end encryption remains in place for private chats, groups, and calls.

“Like everything we do at WhatsApp, we’ve built these features in the most private way possible. Your personal messages, calls, and statuses remain end-to-end encrypted,” WhatsApp added.

The company also said phone numbers and personal messages will not be shared with advertisers.

INEC Rejects PDP’s NEC Meeting Notice, Gives Reasons

The Independent National Electoral Commission has raised concerns over the notice submitted by the Peoples Democratic Party regarding its planned 100th National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for June 30, 2025.

The development was conveyed in a letter dated June 13 and addressed to the party’s chairman, with reference number INEC/DEPM/PDP/286/iii/80 and titled “RE: NOTICE OF 100TH NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY.”

The letter was obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday.

The commission stated that the submitted notice failed to comply with its regulations.

Specifically, INEC cited Part 2(12)3 of the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, which requires that such notices be jointly signed by both the National Chairman and National Secretary of the party.

INEC, in the letter signed by acting Secretary, Mathru Aminu, advised the PDP to ensure proper compliance with its rules moving forward.

“The commission draws your attention that the notice is not in compliance with the requirement of part 2(12)3 of the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022 that provides ‘the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Party shall jointly sign the notice of convention, congress, conference or meeting and submit same to the Commission. Be guided,” the letter read.

The development came after the PDP, in a letter dated May 30, formally informed the electoral body of its intention to hold the landmark NEC meeting at its National Secretariat in Abuja.

The notice, signed solely by the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, was in accordance with INEC’s 21-day notification requirement for political meetings of such magnitude.

According to party insiders, the June 30 meeting is expected to address several longstanding internal issues, including the controversy surrounding the office of the National Secretary, ratification of recent zonal congresses, and review of key committee reports.

The PDP has been plagued by internal strife before and after the 2023 general elections. Disputes across zones, particularly in Rivers, the South-South, and South-East regions, along with disagreements over leadership roles, have continued to deepen tensions within the party. The North-Central zonal congress recently added to the party’s list of unresolved issues.

These challenges have led to repeated postponements of the NEC meeting six times in total stalling critical decisions and prompting defections of key figures such as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Why We Endorsed Tinubu, Omitted Shettima For 2027 At Gombe Summit – APC Vice-chairman

Mustapha Salihu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) national vice-chairman (north-east), says his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term without mentioning Vice-President Kashim Shettima complies with the party’s constitution.

Salihu spoke during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Channel TV’s Politics Today on Monday.

On Sunday, an APC stakeholders’ summit in Gombe descended into chaos after some speakers endorsed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election while omitting Shettima’s name from the ticket.

Salihu was among the top party officials who spoke, and his failure to acknowledge Shettima sparked immediate outrage from participants at the summit.

Delegates, visibly angered by the omission, began shouting and disrupting the meeting, with some issuing threats of violence.

Salihu was escorted out of the venue by security operatives as tensions flared.

Speaking about the omission, Salihu said, “no party constitution allows a candidate to go into the primary with a running mate.”

He said the APC has “only one ticket that is for the president”, adding that it is the “prerogative” of the candidate to pick his running mate after the primary.

“In party politics, we have only one ticket for the executive [arms of government]: for the local government chairman, the governor and the president,” the APC chieftain said.

“No party constitution allows a candidate to go into the primary with a running mate. Only one ticket that is for the president. It is only after the president becomes a candidate that he will pick a running mate, which will be his prerogative.”

Meanwhile, after Salihu was escorted out of the summit, Ali Bukar, the deputy national chairman, addressed the crowd and endorsed both Tinubu and Shettima for a second term.
