The Coalition of Kanam Ethnic Youths Nationalities has thrown its full weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for re-election in 2027.
The group made the strong declaration during a well-attended endorsement gathering held at the Multi-purpose Conference Centre in Dengi, headquarters of Kanam Local Government Area.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, leaders Mr. Sadiq Kwaltommai and Mr. Mustapha Bayuma emphasized that after wide consultations across all 20 wards of Kanam LGA, the youths resolved to endorse both leaders for a second term.
On President Tinubu, the coalition stated:
“After careful review of national leadership since May 29, 2023, we declare our total support and endorsement of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in 2027. Our endorsement is based on the Renewed Hope Agenda, which is steadily stabilizing the economy, confronting insecurity, and delivering critical infrastructure nationwide. We commend the President’s bold decisions, increased allocations to states, and commitment to legacy projects that will transform Northern Nigeria.”
On Governor Mutfwang, the youths highlighted tangible achievements in Kanam LGA, describing the endorsement as “earned, not given.”
They listed key interventions include the commencement of rehabilitation works on the Amper–Dengi road, Gishare–Gwamlar–Gidgid roads, and several feeder roads. Others include the renovation of Government Secondary School Dengi and provision of desks and learning materials to basic schools, Upgrade of General Hospital Dengi with new beds, laboratory equipment, and additional medical staff, Quarterly supply of drugs to Primary Healthcare Centres, Timely distribution of fertilizers and improved seeds to genuine farmers in 2024 and 2025 farming seasons and Regular payment of salaries to local government staff and entitlements to traditional rulers among others.
The coalition stressed that these developments have brought visible relief to the people, especially in roads, education, healthcare, and agriculture.
On the Senate seat, the group made a passionate appeal to Governor Mutfwang for equity:
“Kanam Local Government Area remains the only LGA in Plateau Central Senatorial District that has not produced a Senator since the return of democracy in 1999. With over 132,000 registered voters, placing us second in the zone, we insist that 2027 must be the turn of Kanam.
“We therefore endorse Hon. Chief Ephraim Usman as our candidate for the Plateau Central Senatorial seat. Equity and fairness demand that power rotates to give every part of the zone a sense of belonging.”
The youths noted that they have consistently supported candidates from other LGAs (Mangu, Bokkos, Pankshin, and Kanke) in the past and celebrated their victories, but it is now time for justice and rotational equity.
Ealier in his remark, the Leader of the Kanam Legistlative Arm, Hon Duba-Allahyafi Samson also added to the voices calling for equity. He noted that as a Jhar Son, he haa witness the successive election of a Jhar son two terms into the House of Representatives, stressing that other LGAs should be considered for that office while Kanam should be considered for the Senatorial slot in the interest of equity.
The group concluded by the briefing by congratulating Professor Nentawe Yiltwada on his emergence as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a proud moment for Plateau State and Nigerian democracy.
