The Plateau State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Comrade Solomon Ndam, has called for a police investigation into the alleged forgery of election documents in an attempt to replace the party’s recognised governorship candidate.
Ndam made the allegation while addressing journalists at the party’s secretariat in Jos, where he claimed that his signature was forged on an INEC Form EC-11B to unlawfully substitute Alfred Ali Dapal with Jonathan Sunday Akuns.
The NDC chairman explained that he voluntarily withdrew from the party’s governorship primary in May in deference to the state’s zoning arrangement. He, however, maintained that the only substitution documents he signed were those relating to Dapal, following a consensus primary conducted in September.
Citing Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2026, Ndam argued that substituting a candidate without the required consent is unlawful. He further emphasised that he was alive and available to clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged forgery.
He also disclosed that a Federal High Court had issued an order restraining Akuns from presenting himself as the party’s governorship candidate.
Consequently, Ndam urged the Inspector-General of Police and the Plateau State Police Command to launch an immediate criminal investigation into the matter and arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable.
He appealed to NDC supporters across Plateau State’s 17 local government areas to remain calm, united and focused as the party pursues the matter through the appropriate legal channels.
