The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has successfully completed its tour of the seventeen Local Government Areas in the state, in preparation for the upcoming Local Government Elections scheduled for October 9th.
During the final leg of the tour, Chairman of the Commission, Hon Plangji Daniel Cishak, appealed to the people of Plateau State to unite and cooperate for the common good. He emphasized that such cooperation would lead to an effective electoral process, setting an example for others and allowing the people to elect their leaders without interference, in accordance with the rule of law.
Cishak reiterated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring a level playing field for all political parties. He highlighted the regular interactions with the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) as a measure that has fostered a free and transparent electoral process, ensuring inclusivity.
“Every vote must count come October 9th,” Cishak assured, emphasizing that PLASIEC is dedicated to establishing the right conditions for a successful election. He also mentioned that only qualified and traceable individuals would be engaged as ad hoc staff for the elections, with detailed requirements to be announced soon.
The recent establishment of the Plateau State Advisory Consultative Committee on Election Security (PLACCES), which has put a robust security structure in place, further underscores the Commission’s efforts to protect lives and property during the electoral period.
In all the Local Government Areas visited, officials including the Transition Implementation Committee Chairmen of Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Jos South, Bassa, Jos East, and Jos North, pledged their unwavering support and cooperation to ensure the success of the elections.
