The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) paid a courtesy visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) today, fostering collaboration and enhancing electoral processes ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
The meeting commenced with opening prayer and introductions led by Mrs. Nancy Nkem Nuosu from the Voter Education and Publicity Department.
PLASIEC Chairman, Hon. Plangji Daniel Cishak, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with INEC and shared insights from his tenure. He underscored the significance of grassroots-level elections and detailed his initiatives to rebuild trust in the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).
Hon. Cishak sought INEC’s support, particularly in acquiring the soft copy of the Electronic Voter Register (EVR) and in capacity building. He also announced that the local government elections are scheduled for October 9, 2024.
In response, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Dr. Cliver Tersco Agundu welcomed the PLASIEC team and reassured them of INEC’s full support. He advised focusing on four critical election components: the Electronic Voter Register, materials, personnel, and security.
Dr. Agundu committed INEC to assist in capacity building, training, and integrating polling units.
PLASIEC Secretary Barr. Pam Gyang Davou expressed confidence in their leadership and INEC’s backing, while commission member Hon. Audu Dorzhi appreciated the engagement and pledged to seek INEC’s guidance.
The meeting concluded with Dr. Agundu’s closing remarks, expressing gratitude for the visit and promising to monitor progress through an upcoming visit to the PLASIEC office.
