In a demonstration of solidarity, governors from the North Central region of Nigeria have contributed N100 million to support those affected by the tragic Christmas Eve attacks in Plateau State.

The Chairman of the North Central Governors Forum, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, announced this benevolent gesture during the forum’s visit to Plateau State, expressing their heartfelt condolences to Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

Governor Sule emphasized that the funds are intended to alleviate the suffering of the survivors, condemning the assailants as terrorists who must be treated accordingly. Benue State’s Governor Hyacinth Alia urged unity among the states of Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and Niger to collectively combat the menace of terrorism disrupting the peace in the North Central region.

Governor Alia emphasized the necessity for a united strategy and continuous vigilance at the borders to curb the recurring attacks on farming communities. Governor Mutfwang, while appreciating the governors for their visit, expressed regret over the unfortunate circumstances that bring them together, hoping for a future where Plateau State becomes a hub for celebrations rather than mourning.

The grim reminder of the recent attacks on 15 villages in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas, resulting in over 115 casualties and the destruction of 221 houses, highlights the urgency of addressing security challenges in the North Central region.
