In a moment filled with promise and dedication, the Plateau Peace Practitioners Network (PPPN) welcomed its new executive on April 18, 2024, at the prestigious TEKAN Hall. This pivotal event marked not only a transition in leadership but also a time for reflection on the network’s journey and a recommitment to its noble cause.

The inauguration ceremony commenced with a heartfelt speech by the outgoing president, Mr. Pwakim, Jacob Choji, who eloquently encapsulated the network’s achievements and challenges during his tenure. His words resonated with gratitude towards the founding fathers, the unwavering dedication of members, and the impactful strides made in promoting peace and security within Plateau state and beyond.

Under Mr. Pwakim’s leadership, the PPPN focused on bolstering internal capacity and fostering external collaborations to amplify its impact. Through initiatives such as training sessions, interreligious dialogues, and advocacy for restorative justice, the network empowered its members and strengthened its position as a beacon of peace in the region.

The outgoing executive’s dedication to engaging with various stakeholders, including security agencies, government bodies, and civil society organizations, was commendable. Their efforts in community assessments, election observation, and media engagement underscored a commitment to democracy, human rights, and transparent communication.

Acknowledging the challenges faced, Mr. Pwakim emphasized the importance of addressing them head-on for the network’s sustainability and growth. Despite obstacles, the PPPN emerged stronger, buoyed by inclusivity, transparency, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Following the outgoing president’s remarks, the ceremony proceeded with the oath-taking by the new executive. Led by President Nanmak D. Bali, the members of the executive, Vice President- Hajiya Maimuna Ibrahim Abdullahi, Secretary General – Kugsley Obida, Assistant Secretary, General – Pam Chuwang
Publicity and Communication – David James, solemnly pledged their commitment to the principles and objectives of the PPPN, vowing to serve with integrity, dedication, and passion.

The newly elected President of the Plateau Peace Practitioner Network, Nanmak D. Bali, extends his heartfelt gratitude to supporters for their role in the election process. Emphasizing the significance of unity and collaboration among diverse NGOs, they pledge to promote diversity, equity, and inclusivity within the network. Recognizing the efforts of individuals involved in the election process, including the ELCOM and Inauguration Committee, they highlight the importance of working together to achieve peace. Urging members to unite for a prosperous future, the president emphasizes the need to build bridges and break down barriers, striving to leave a lasting legacy of peace for generations to come.

The event also featured goodwill messages from esteemed leaders and organizations, further highlighting the widespread support for the network’s mission. Madam Helen Hagai, Executive Director of TEKAN Peace Desk; Dr. Imaran, Executive Director of CEPID; Director General of Plateau State Peace Building Agency; Hon. Commissioner of Ministry of Information, Plateau State; Hon. Commissioner of Ministry of Special Duties, Plateau State; State Commissioner, Nigeria Police Force Plateau State Command heavily represented; and The Commander, STF/OPSH, Plateau State, also represented, all encouraged the new executive to build upon the foundation laid by their predecessors.

As members, stakeholders, and the media bore witness to this historic moment, the message of unity and peace reverberated throughout the hall. The inauguration of the new executive symbolized not just a change in leadership, but a renewed dedication to the timeless pursuit of harmony and prosperity for all.
