The Plateau State chapter of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has called on the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Adesina, to direct officers to cease the practice of intimidating and wrongfully arresting musicians based on their appearance or hairstyles.
In a letter addressed to the Police Commissioner, Comrade Color Humphrey Iroegbu, the PMAN Governor of Plateau State, expressed deep concern over the growing reports of musicians being targeted due to their unconventional dress styles. He described these actions as discriminatory and a violation of individual rights, warning that PMAN may seek legal redress if such incidents persist.
Iroegbu highlighted the negative impact these practices have on the morale and safety of musicians, urging the police to focus on maintaining law and order without resorting to profiling. He also advised musicians to carry their official PMAN ID cards and remain vigilant in light of the recent incidents.
The Plateau State PMAN emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of its members, ensuring they can continue to contribute to the state’s cultural and economic vibrancy without fear of harassment.
