The governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has made a substantial commitment to empowering women by promoting the development of girls and enhancing their ability to secure their social and economic well-being.
At the New Government House, Little Rayfield Jos, the Governor made the commitment during the official launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a Women Agricultural Support Programme for the North Central Geo-Political Zone, which is being directed by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu.
In addition to highlighting the crucial role that women play in SMEs, food security, and agriculture, Governor Mutfwang also stated that the state administration is committed to advancing women’s issues and realising their full potential.
He thanked the First Lady for her bold effort, particularly in helping women in agriculture, and advised the recipients to use the money wisely to provide for their families and advance society.
The First Lady stated that the Tinubu administration acknowledges agriculture as being essential to sustainable development and food security.
She was represented by Mrs. Salamatu Gbajabiamila, the President’s wife and chief of staff.
In keeping with the national agricultural goal to strengthen the industry, she declared that the RHI is committed to supporting women farmers around the country.
While giving N10 million in checks to the wives of the North Central Zone governors, the President’s Wife announced that N500,000 would be given to 20 women farmers in each state.
“Today marks a milestone as we support 20 women farmers per state in the North Central Zone with N500,000 each. Consequently, a total of N10 million per state will be entrusted to the First Ladies of Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau, who also serve as RHI State Coordinators, for distribution to the beneficiaries in their respective states, as well as FCT” she stated.
Furthermore, N100,000 was awarded by the RHI Social Investment Programme (RHI-SIP) to 100 individuals in Plateau State who live with disabilities in order to improve their enterprises.
The First Lady urged the recipients to take advantage of this chance to expand their farming businesses, increase food production, and serve as an inspiration to upcoming farmers.
During the inaugural speech, Barr. Helen Mutfwang, the wife of the Plateau State governor, was represented by the Commissioner of Higher Education, Mrs. Kachollom Gan.
She conveyed her sincere gratitude for the First Lady’s backing, highlighting the First Lady’s unwavering dedication to promoting women’s empowerment and the agricultural industry.
