President has approved the renewal of ’s appointment as Commandant-General of the (NSCDC) for an additional five-year term.
The renewed tenure took effect on Friday and was formally announced on Saturday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Audi was initially appointed to lead the NSCDC in 2021 by former President . His first five-year term concluded last Friday while he was attending activities commemorating the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
According to the Presidency, the Commandant-General will officially resume duties on Monday under a renewed mandate. President Tinubu tasked Audi with repositioning the Corps to assume a stronger role within Nigeria’s security framework, particularly as the Nigeria Police refocus their efforts on tackling banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism across the country.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga town of Nasarawa Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, Audi began his academic journey at Teachers’ College, Jengre, Plateau State, where he earned a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1987. He later obtained a Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992.
Audi proceeded to , Zaria, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education. He subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the in 2001. In 2014, he obtained a PhD in Public Administration from , and later secured a Master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.
Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996. After completing his basic officer training in 1997, he was deployed as a divisional officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. He rose through the ranks and, in 2007, was promoted to Commandant and posted to the office of the Commandant-General at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja, where he eventually ascended to lead the paramilitary agency.
