Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army have dislodged suspected terrorists and other criminal elements during an ongoing security operation in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The operation, conducted under Operation BUGUN KARKANDA III, targeted Mansur Village and nearby communities where armed groups had reportedly been terrorising residents.
In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of the Division, Lt. Col. Olumide Victor Olukoya, the exercise was launched by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.
According to the statement, troops carried out a coordinated offensive that enabled them to advance into identified flashpoints and regain control of key locations in the area.
The army disclosed that the troops successfully dislodged the terrorists who had attempted to establish control over Mansur Village during the operation.
“Troops of 3 Division rapidly advanced into the affected communities and successfully dislodged armed terrorists who attempted to assert control over Mansur Village,” the statement said.
Following the clearance operation, soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle from the fleeing terrorists, a development the military said has further weakened the operational capability of the criminal group.
The military added that troops have since consolidated their positions while intensifying both fighting and confidence-building patrols across Alkaleri Local Government Area to sustain the security gains and reassure residents.
Authorities noted that the ongoing operations have disrupted the activities of criminal networks in the area and helped restore public confidence, allowing residents to gradually resume their socio-economic activities.
Efforts are also underway to stabilise the affected communities and facilitate the safe return of displaced residents to Mansur Village and other surrounding settlements.
Meanwhile, the GOC, Major General Oyinlola, commended the troops for their professionalism and dedication, urging them to maintain the operational momentum and ensure that terrorists are denied any freedom of action within the division’s area of responsibility.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting vulnerable communities and sustaining peace and security across the region.
