The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has announced its readiness to conduct re-run elections for councillorship positions in nine wards across six Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Plateau State. The re-runs have been scheduled to address irregularities identified during the initial elections in these areas.
In a recent statement, PLASIEC indicated that three additional wards have been added to the re-run election list, based on a further review of post-election assessments. The newly included wards are Fier and Mudkang Yelleng in Pankshin LGA, as well as Ampang East B in Kanke LGA. These join previously listed wards such as Kishika in Bassa LGA, Jemkur and Turaki in Langtang South, Gindiri 2 and Kasuwan Ali in Mangu LGA, and Luukwo in Quaan Pan LGA.
The elections will take place across a total of 112 polling units, running from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, 19th October 2024.
PLASIEC has reaffirmed its commitment to a free, fair, and credible electoral process, urging all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and voters, to remain peaceful and adhere to the laid-down guidelines.
