Army Shakes Up Top Command, Redeploys Generals Across Key Security Theatres

The Nigerian Army has announced a major shake-up of its senior command structure, redeploying a number of generals to critical operational, formation, training and strategic positions as the military intensifies efforts to confront Nigeria’s evolving security threats.

The sweeping postings, approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Waidi Shaibu, affect some of the Army’s most strategic commands and institutions, including Operation HADIN KAI, Defence Headquarters, Army formations, the Army War College and the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation.

The Army said the exercise is designed to inject fresh leadership into critical areas, strengthen operational effectiveness and ensure that officers with the requisite experience and expertise are deployed where they are most needed.

The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, disclosed the changes in a statement on Wednesday.

Ajose Takes Over Operation HADIN KAI

One of the biggest changes is the deployment of Major General IA Ajose from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations to become the new Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, the Army’s major counter-insurgency operation in the region.

He takes over from Major General AE Abubakar, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean, Faculty of Operational Research.

Major General AM Alechenu has also been moved from the Defence Headquarters Garrison to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.

Meanwhile, Major General RT Utsaha moves from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Standards and Evaluation to the Defence Headquarters Garrison as Commander.

Major Changes at War College, Civil-Military Affairs

The reshuffle also sees Major General AM Umar move from the Army Headquarters Department of Civil-Military Affairs to become Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria.

His place at the Department of Civil-Military Affairs will be taken by Major General UM Alkali, who moves from the Army War College Nigeria.

In another major strategic posting, Major General GS Muhammed moves from the Office of the National Security Adviser to the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation as Director General.

Major General JE Osifo, who previously served at the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation, has been redeployed to the Military Pension Board as Chairman.

The Army has also appointed Major General IE Ekpenyong as Director, Engineering Services, at the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Logistics.

Brigade, Division Commands Also Affected

Several brigadier generals have equally received new operational assignments.

Brigadier General AA Bello moves from 6 Division Garrison/Sector 3 Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, to the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Operations.

Brigadier General MS Adamu leaves the Nigerian Army Women Command to assume command of the newly established 8 Brigade.

Brigadier General MS Sule has been redeployed from the Special Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, to become Commander of 27 Brigade.

At 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General I Sule takes over as Commander after his transfer from the Directorate of Recruitment Management.

Brigadier General E Azenda moves from the Land Forces Simulation Centre to command 2 Division Garrison.

Following the change, Brigadier General AS Bugaje moves from 2 Division Garrison to the Land Forces Simulation Centre as Director of Administration.

The Army said the redeployments are aimed at ensuring that “the right leadership, experience and expertise” are positioned across critical operational theatres and strategic appointments.

The COAS charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, operational innovation and professionalism.

He further tasked them to remain committed to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.

The latest shake-up comes as the Nigerian military continues to adjust its operational and command structures in response to the country’s complex and changing security environment.

Peter Obi, Alfred Dapal Donate ₦4m to Mangu IDPs During Solidarity Visit

Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has visited internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking refuge at the Central Primary School in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, donating ₦2 million to support families affected by insecurity.

Obi was accompanied by prominent NDC chieftain, Alfred Dapal Damiyal (ADD), who also donated an additional ₦2 million to the displaced families, bringing the total donation from the two political leaders to ₦4 million.

The visit was part of Obi’s solidarity tour of Mangu following recent attacks that forced residents from their communities and heightened concerns over insecurity in the area.

The delegation was received on behalf of the Mishkagham Mwaghavul by four district heads representing Mangu, Bungha, Kombili and Hale.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, the Mangu District Head expressed appreciation to Obi for identifying with the displaced persons and commended Alfred Dapal Damiyal for facilitating the presidential candidate’s visit to Mangu.

He described ADD as a son of the community who had demonstrated concern for his people by bringing Obi to directly engage with residents affected by insecurity.

During his interaction with the IDPs, Obi expressed concern over the continued displacement of Nigerians due to insecurity, describing the plight of internally displaced persons as a national issue requiring urgent attention.

“As far as IDPs remain displaced, the whole of Nigeria is displaced.”

Obi stressed that humanitarian donations, while necessary, must be accompanied by sustainable measures to restore security and create conditions for displaced families to return home safely.

He called for stronger action to protect vulnerable communities, rebuild affected areas and restore the livelihoods and dignity of Nigerians forced to flee their homes.

The visit also provided an opportunity for Obi to listen to the concerns of displaced families and engage with traditional leaders on the challenges confronting communities affected by insecurity.

With the combined ₦4 million donation by Obi and ADD, the NDC delegation reaffirmed its solidarity with the affected families while calling for lasting solutions that will enable residents of Mangu to return to their communities in safety and dignity.

Nigerians Abroad Can Now Renew Passports Remotely Without Embassy Biometric Appointment

Nigerians living outside the country can now renew their passports without physically visiting a Nigerian embassy or high commission for biometric enrolment, following the introduction of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) contactless passport renewal system.

The new process allows eligible applicants to complete key stages of their passport renewal remotely, including biometric enrolment, while using their National Identification Number (NIN) and date of birth for identity verification.

How Nigerians Abroad Can Renew Their Passports Remotely

Applicants are required to begin the process through the official Nigerian Immigration Service passport portal by selecting “Apply from Outside Nigeria” and choosing “Apply for Renewal or Reissue.”

They will then create an account, verify their identity with their NIN and date of birth, complete the application form, select a preferred processing embassy and upload the required documents.

After payment of the applicable passport fee, the applicant will receive an Application ID and Reference Number, which should be kept for subsequent stages of the process.

At this point, applicants can choose between a physical appointment and the contactless option, where available.

Those eligible for contactless processing can select “Opt in for Contactless” from the application status or appointment section and follow the instructions provided.

Applicants will also need to download the NRS mobile app, sign in or create an account, and select “Passport Application Services” followed by “Passport Biometric Enrolment.”

The Application ID and Reference Number are then entered into the app to determine eligibility.

If approved for the contactless process, applicants will be guided through the capture of their facial image and fingerprints using the mobile application. The biometric information will subsequently be submitted for review.

Once the biometric submission has been successfully reviewed and the applicant confirmed eligible, the contactless service fee will be required.

What Happens If You Are Not Eligible?

Applicants who do not qualify for the contactless option can return to the passport portal and schedule a physical biometric appointment at their selected Nigerian embassy or high commission.

Following completion of the required payment, applicants should print their application form and retrieve their current passport.

Both documents should be placed in a self-addressed return envelope and sent to the selected processing mission as instructed.

Applicants can begin tracking their passport application approximately two weeks after submission through the official tracking portal or the NRS mobile application.

The contactless system is aimed at reducing the need for Nigerians abroad to travel to embassies solely for passport biometric enrolment, potentially saving applicants time and travel costs.

The NIS has advised applicants to rely only on official Nigerian Immigration Service platforms and channels for passport applications and renewals to avoid fraud.

How To Become A Dangote Refinery Shareholder With N5,250

Nigerians will soon have the opportunity to own a stake in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE as the company prepares to launch what is being described as Africa’s largest Initial Public Offering (IPO).

The offer is scheduled to open on Monday, September 14, 2026, and close on October 13, 2026, subject to the terms contained in the final offer documents.

Dangote Group Chief Executive Officer, Aliko Dangote, signed the offer documents on Monday, September 7, at a ceremony held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, alongside the advisers and issuing houses handling the transaction.

The IPO involves 4.1 billion ordinary shares at N525 per share, with the refinery seeking to raise approximately N2.15 trillion to partly finance an expansion that would increase its refining capacity to about 1.4 million barrels per day.

The minimum subscription is 10 shares, meaning an investor can participate with as little as N5,250.

Dangote said the low entry point was designed to make the offer accessible to ordinary Nigerians, including workers such as drivers, cooks and domestic staff, describing it as “the IPO for the people.”

With the offer expected to attract significant public interest, here is a simple guide on how prospective investors can participate.

1. Open a Brokerage Account

Shares listed on the Nigerian Exchange are purchased through licensed stockbroking firms.

Anyone without an existing trading account will need to open one with a broker registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).

Many brokers allow customers to complete registration online by providing documents such as a Bank Verification Number (BVN), valid identification and a passport photograph.

Investors should verify that their chosen broker is properly licensed before transferring any funds.

2. Set Up or Link Your CSCS Account

Shares are held electronically through the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) rather than through physical certificates.

A new investor will usually have a CSCS account created through the broker, while investors who already have one can have it linked to their brokerage account.

Any Dangote Refinery shares allotted to an investor will be credited electronically to the investor’s CSCS account.

3. Complete Your Verification

The broker will require you to complete its Know-Your-Customer (KYC) and identity verification process before you can participate in the offer.

Documentation may vary between brokers, so investors should follow the requirements provided by their chosen stockbroker.

4. Fund Your Investment Account

After activating the account, fund it with the amount you intend to invest.

At N525 per share, the minimum subscription of 10 shares will cost N5,250.

Investors intending to purchase more shares should check the final prospectus for the applicable application increments and other subscription conditions before submitting their applications.

It is advisable to have the funds available before the offer opens on September 14.

5. Confirm the Official Opening Date

The Dangote Refinery IPO is scheduled to open on September 14 and close on October 13, 2026.

However, prospective investors should rely on the final prospectus and official announcements from the issuing houses, SEC and NGX for the definitive dates and procedures.

This is particularly important given reports of strong demand surrounding Dangote Refinery’s earlier private placement.

6. Submit Your Application Through Approved Channels

Once the offer opens, investors can apply through participating stockbrokers and other platforms specifically approved and listed in the official offer documents.

Applicants should carefully enter the number of shares they wish to purchase, review their application and submit it before the closing date.

Investors should also be cautious of fraudulent individuals or platforms requesting money for Dangote Refinery shares. Payments should only be made through verified and officially approved channels.

7. Wait for the Allotment

Applying for shares does not necessarily mean an investor will receive the entire number requested.

If the IPO is oversubscribed, the number of shares allocated to individual investors may be reduced in accordance with the terms of the offer.

Where an investor is not allocated all the shares applied for, any applicable excess funds should be refunded according to the conditions contained in the prospectus.

Successful allotments will be credited to investors’ CSCS accounts.

8. Monitor Your Shares After Listing

Once the shares are listed on the Nigerian Exchange, investors will be able to monitor their holdings through their stockbrokers.

The market value of the shares can rise or fall depending on the refinery’s performance, investor demand, market conditions and broader economic factors.

Shareholders can choose to hold their investment for the long term or sell their shares through their broker at the prevailing market price once trading begins.

Important Advice for Investors

Before committing money to the IPO, prospective investors should carefully read the official prospectus and offer documents when published.

They should also independently confirm the final offer price, application conditions, closing date and approved subscription channels through the issuing houses, SEC or NGX.

Most importantly, investors should avoid sending money to individuals or unverified platforms claiming to be selling Dangote Refinery shares.

The opportunity to invest may be open to ordinary Nigerians, but investors should still treat the IPO as a market investment and carefully consider the risks before committing their funds.

Peter Obi Arrives Jos, Heads to Mangu Over Recent Bandit Attack

Presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has arrived in Jos, Plateau State, as part of a solidarity visit to Mangu Local Government Area following a recent bandit attack that left communities in distress.

Obi was received in Jos by the Plateau State NDC leadership and party chieftains led by Alfred Dapal Damiyal (ADD), alongside party members, supporters and other stakeholders.

The former Anambra State governor is expected to proceed to Mangu, where he will engage with community leaders, residents and families affected by the attack.

The NDC presidential candidate is expected to use the visit to stress the need for stronger security measures, protection of vulnerable communities and adequate support for victims of insecurity.

Senator Buba Challenges Critics To Produce Evidence Over Alleged Bandit Links

Bauchi South Senator and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate, Shehu Buba, has challenged individuals and organisations accusing him of links to banditry to present credible evidence, declaring that he is ready to face scrutiny by the Department of State Services (DSS) or any other legitimate authority.

Buba made the declaration in a statement personally signed on Sunday, amid renewed calls for security agencies to investigate allegations linking him to suspected bandit kingpin Abubakar Idris.

The controversy gained fresh attention after former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, called on the DSS to make public the outcome of its alleged investigation into the matter.

Responding to the allegations, Buba dismissed the materials circulating against him as part of a coordinated campaign aimed at damaging his reputation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The senator alleged that political opponents were using doctored videos and what he described as “fake bandit kingpins” to portray him as having links with criminal elements.

He categorically denied sponsoring bandits or hosting bandit leaders at his residence, insisting that his record of public service remained clean.

“I welcome scrutiny, but scrutiny must be fair. I do not claim immunity from scrutiny,” Buba said, noting that his positions as a senator, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, and current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Livestock and Animal Husbandry naturally subject him to public examination.

According to him, there is a clear distinction between legitimate investigation and what he described as fabrication, blackmail and political character assassination.

Buba further disclosed that he had commenced legal action over some of the videos in circulation, including cases before Nigerian courts and the Court of First Instance in Niger Republic, describing the contents as false and malicious.

He urged journalists, editors, fact-checkers, civil society groups and other stakeholders to independently verify the videos, trace their origins and establish the identities of the individuals featured before drawing conclusions.

The senator explained that his previous silence on the allegations was partly influenced by the sensitive nature of his former role overseeing national security matters.

He said publicly discussing certain security-related contacts or operations could compromise ongoing investigations, expose sources or endanger communities and individuals involved.

However, he said the continued circulation of the allegations had made it necessary for him to publicly state his position.

Buba also advocated a broader approach to tackling insecurity, arguing that military action alone would not permanently resolve Nigeria’s security challenges.

He called for greater community engagement, intelligence gathering, dialogue, deradicalisation and confidence-building between affected communities and security agencies.

The PRP governorship candidate urged his supporters to remain calm and focused on the 2027 democratic process, insisting that political disagreements should be based on policies, competence and vision rather than unverified allegations.

He maintained that he would continue to defend his reputation through lawful means while concentrating on representing his constituents and contributing to peace and security in Nigeria.

Nigerian-British Businessman Die$ After Cosmetic Pen!s Enlargement Procedure

A Nigerian-British businessman and social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, has died following complications from a penis enlargement procedure he underwent during a luxury holiday in Thailand.

Ubiribo, 43, reportedly suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism after receiving injectable fillers at a clinic in Bangkok in March. Findings from a United Kingdom inquest later linked the substance found in his lungs to the cosmetic procedure.

According to evidence presented at the inquest, Ubiribo travelled to Thailand with his wife, Zimbabwean fashion designer Danielle Simba Allen. While in Bangkok, he decided to undergo a penis enlargement procedure involving the injection of approximately 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine.

Following the procedure, Ubiribo and his wife returned to their Marriott hotel and went for a massage.

It was during the massage that he reportedly complained of chest pain before collapsing and losing consciousness.

He was taken to Sukhumvit Hospital, where medical personnel initially managed to establish contact with him. His wife reportedly told doctors about the recent penis filler treatment, raising concerns that the procedure could be connected to his sudden condition.

Doctors suspected a pulmonary embolism and recommended further scans. However, Ubiribo reportedly lost consciousness before the examination could be completed.

He was subsequently transferred to intensive care, where medical personnel carried out prolonged cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an attempt to save his life.

He was pronounced dead in the early hours of March 6.

Postmortem Provides Link to Cosmetic Procedure

A postmortem examination conducted in the UK reportedly found material in Ubiribo’s lungs that was consistent with the hyaluronic acid used during the penis filler procedure.

Pathologist John du Parcq told the inquest that the material discovered during the examination matched the substance injected during the cosmetic treatment.

The evidence supported the conclusion that Ubiribo suffered a pulmonary embolism associated with the procedure.

Coroner Jean Harkin subsequently ruled that his death was caused by a pulmonary embolism linked to the cosmetic injection.

A pulmonary embolism occurs when a blood clot or other material blocks a blood vessel supplying the lungs. Depending on its severity, it can cause sudden chest pain, breathing difficulties, cardiovascular collapse and death.

Cosmetic Procedure Raises Safety Concerns

Hyaluronic acid-based penis fillers are marketed as a non-surgical method of increasing penile girth. However, as with other injectable cosmetic procedures, complications can occur, particularly when substances enter blood vessels or migrate to other parts of the body.

During the inquest, Ubiribo’s medical history was also examined. Information from his London doctor indicated that he had previously undergone joint surgeries and had been described as pre-diabetic and suffering from gout. His doctor reportedly said he had no other major medical conditions.

Known for a Luxury Lifestyle

Ubiribo, who was also known by the names “Tiny,” “Denisi” and “Ego,” had built a significant social media following and was known for documenting a lavish lifestyle.

He reportedly had about 185,000 followers on Instagram and owned properties in Los Angeles and London.

He married Danielle Simba Allen in a lavish ceremony in 2022.

Following his death, Ubiribo was buried in London in a gold coffin, with reports claiming that his funeral arrangements cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Afrobeats superstar Davido, who was described as a childhood friend of the businessman, reportedly attended the funeral and paid tribute to him.

The case has drawn renewed attention to the risks associated with injectable cosmetic procedures and the importance of seeking qualified medical professionals when considering elective treatments.
