President Muhammadu Buhari is fully supporting All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate Bola Tinubu in the upcoming election, according to Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed.
Mohammed provided this clarification on Thursday, February 2, in Abuja at the 22nd PMB Administration Scorecard Series (2015-2023), which was held to showcase the accomplishments of the Buhari administration.
The Minister revealed that some media outlets misconstrued his statement that “the President is committed to free, fair, and credible elections, and that he is doing everything possible to assure a level playing field for all contenders.”
“Yesterday, while reacting to a question at the post-Federal Executive Council briefing at the State House, I said, inter alia, that Mr. President is committed to a free, fair, and credible elections.
“This comment has been misinterpreted in some circles, especially with regards to Mr. President’s support for the presidential candidate of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“I want to say, unequivocally, that Mr. President is in total support of our party’s flag bearer, and that is attested to by his continuing campaign with the candidate across the country.
“It is preposterous to even suggest that Mr. President, who is the leader of our party, is equivocating on his support for our presidential candidate.
“I hope this clears any ambiguity that may have arisen from my statement yesterday.”
Meanwhile, the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari on Wednesday, shared a video of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State saying that elements in Aso Villa are working against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu ahead of the February 25 poll.
Earlier on Wednesday, the governor on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily breakfast programme said the elements in the Villa are hellbent on APC losing next month’s election because they did not have their way.
“I believe that there are elements in the Villa that want us to lose the elections because they didn’t get their way.
“They had their candidate; their candidate didn’t win the primaries and I think they are still trying to get us to lose the elections and they are hiding behind the President’s desire to do what he thinks is right,” El-Rufai said.
