Gov. Lalong Impose Curfew on Bassa, Jos North and Jos South

Sequel to the unfortunate breach of peace along Rukuba road, Jos North LGA on 14th August 2021, where a convoy of commuters was attacked leading to killing of innocent persons, I have received briefings on the situation from the relevant heads of security agencies.

The reports indicate that 23 of those attacked lost their lives while 23 persons sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment. 26 others were rescued unhurt. So far, 20 suspects have been arrested and the security agencies are conducting investigations to get to the bottom of the matter.

Having reviewed the reports and monitored the unfolding scenario, Government is concerned about the persisting tensions and reported attempts by some persons to take the laws into their hands by threatening to attack individuals and private facilities, as well as public property.

In order to avoid further deterioration of the situation and to protect lives and properties of citizens, I have directed the imposition of curfew on Jos North, Bassa and Jos South Local Governments commencing 6pm to 6am from today, 14th August 2021.

The curfew shall remain in place subject to further review by the State Security Council.

All citizens are therefore directed to abide by the directive to enable security personnel maintain law and order in the affected areas and deal with those attempting to foment trouble by taking advantage of the situation to perpetrate crime.

The Government will continue to monitor the unfolding situation and take further necessary measures to ensure the safety of lives and properties.

While I deeply sympathize with the families of those who lost their loved ones, and those injured in the unfortunate event, I call for calm and appeal to our citizens to avoid any action or utterances that will further inflame the situation.

This is purely a criminal conduct and should not be given any ethnic or religious colouration.

Let us continue to be vigilant and be security conscious and do everything possible to sustain n peace and security of the State.
God bless Plateau State.

Rt. Hon. (Dr) Simon Bako Lalong, KSGG
Executive of Plateau State.
14th August 2021.

Jayvoice – life (+lyrics)

The vision is blurry My heart is bleeding
My body is Shaking Pain is what am feeling
Set the path to Healing Cos the faith is failing
The wall is shaking And the soul is loosing

DOWNLOAD MP3: Jayvoice – life

Jayvoice

My whole life is a game
Either I loose or I win
My day full of pain
And my night full of race
Tryna put smile on my face
Deep in me I know it fake
No hope, never see sign of faith

See the shit that am in to
life that am in to
Life doesn’t give the best
Only want the best of you

Poor man in the rain
And the rich in the range
Kinda look like fate
What should I say

One thing I fear
Is the man In the mirror
man in the middle
man at the top
And man at the bottom

I was born broke
Don’t wanna die broke

Yeah its a sunny day l
Already waiting for the rain
So these pains will fade away
And the man go down just to praise

Lagos Police confirms arrest of hacker who moved N1.86bn from bank

A suspected hacker, Femi Salau, has been arrested by the police Special Fraud Unit in Lagos State; for allegedly hacking into the system of a first-generation bank to defraud it of about N1.868bn.

According to the police in a statement on Thursday, August 12, two Bureau De Change operators; who allegedly acted as Salau’s accomplices to perpetuate the fraud, were also nabbed.

Salau was arrested for allegedly using software to create fictitious credits totalling N1,868,900,000; which he deposited into the accounts of some of the affected bank’s customers.

The spokesman for the Police SFU, Eyitayo Johnson, said that Salau successfully made debits; amounting to N417,542,000 through Internet banking transfers to other banks.

He stated that the affected bank petitioned the unit; and its operatives to contact the Central Bank of Nigeria and Deposit Money Banks; whose customers were beneficiaries of the fraudulent funds, and they were able to recover a substantial amount.

The Police officer said, “Operatives of the Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos, have arrested one Femi Salau; the kingpin of a syndicate that specialises in hacking into the servers of banks and corporate agencies.

“The hacker, who displayed exemplary mastery of the cyber environment, was arrested after he hacked into the Flex-Cube Universal Banking System of a first-generation bank.

“Using application software, he created fictitious credits totalling N1,868,900,000 on the accounts of three of the bank’s customers and successfully consummated debits amounting to N417,542,000 through Internet banking transfers to other banks.

“The unit, while acting swiftly on a petition from the bank, contacted the Central Bank of Nigeria and Deposit Money Banks, whose customers were beneficiaries of the fraudulent funds, and was able to salvage a substantial amount.”

Johnson also stated that items recovered from Salau included Apple laptop and iPhone; adding that he and the BDC operators, who laundered the money, would be charged as soon as the investigation was concluded.

Explaining how the suspects were arrested, Johnson said, “We had been on the trail of the hacker (Salau) for a while; he travelled out of the country; so, we placed him under watch and picked him up from the airport.

“The Commissioner of Police in charge of the unit, Anderson Bankole, arrested one of the BDCs operators in a bank in Abuja; when he went for the IGP’s conference. The other BDC operator was arrested in Lagos.

“The hacker (Salau) was the last person we arrested; because the way we conduct our investigation is from the bottom up.”

World Bank warns about Nigeria’s growing debt

The World Bank has listed Nigeria and nine other countries as nations with high-debt risk exposure.

In a financial statement for the International Development Association (IDA) released on Monday, August 10; the World Bank pegged Nigeria at number five with a $11.7b IDA debt stock.

“As of June 30, 2021, the ten countries with the highest exposures accounted for 66% of IDA’s total exposure,” it explained in the document.

“IDA’s largest exposure to a single borrowing country, India, was $22 billion as of June 30, 2021. Monitoring these exposures relative to the SBL, requires consideration of the repayment profiles of existing loans; as well as disbursement profiles and projected new loans and guarantees.”

India tops the list with an IDA debt stock of $22b. Bangladesh – with $18.1b – is second and followed by Pakistan ($16.4b), and Vietnam with $14.1b, according to the World Bank document.

Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, and Uganda complete the top 10 list in that order.

“IDA faces two types of credit risk: country credit risk and counterparty credit risk,” the World Bank further explained.

“Country credit risk is the risk of loss due to a country not meeting its contractual obligations; and counterparty credit risk is the risk of loss attributable to a counterparty not honoring its contractual obligations. IDA is exposed to commercial as well as noncommercial counterparty credit risk.”

As of September 2020, Nigeria had taken a $31.98b worth of loans from the World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund (IMF), African Development Bank (AfDB), according to the Debt Management Office (DMO).

Meanwhile, the high commissioner of Indonesia to Nigeria, Usra Harahap has justified the assault carried out by immigration officials on a Nigerian Diplomat in the country on August 7.

1st News had reported that a video trended on social media showing the diplomatic official simply identified as ‘Ibrahim’ screaming for his life as two immigration officials in Indonesia assaulted him. One pinned his head to a car headrest while the other squeezed his throat.

The video generated a massive outcry causing Nigeria to recalls its ambassador and the diplomatic officer.

Dangote named as only Nigerian in Bloomberg Billionaires List

Aliko Dangote was listed as the only Nigerian in Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index on Tuesday, August 10, with a net worth of $17.8bn.

The Chairman of the Dangote Group was ranked 118 among 500 billionaires listed by Bloomberg.

Tesla’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk topped the billionaires’ index with a net worth valued at $193b. He is followed by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos at number two who is valued at $193billion.

Bernard Arnault of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton has a net worth of $175b to take third.

Bill Gates had a valuation of $148b while Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg with $134billion occupied, 4th and 5th position in that order.

Jack Ma, Roman Abramovich, and Rupert Murdoch are some of the prominent names on the index.

“In calculating net worth, Bloomberg strives to provide the most transparent calculations available; and each individual billionaire profile contains a detailed analysis of how that person’s fortune is tallied,” the company explained.

The billionaire’s chart containing Dangote is a daily ranking of the richest people on earth; and measures personal wealth solely on fluctuations in markets, the economy, and Bloomberg’s reportage.

Each billionaire’s net worth is updated at the close of business every day at the close of trading in New York.

Equally, stakes in publicly traded companies are valued and it uses the share’s latest closing price. The valuations are then converted to US dollars at the present exchange rates.
