Iyorchia Ayu, the People’s Democratic Party’s national chairman, has stated that only the NEC has the authority to suspend a member of the National Executive Committee because the PDP constitution expressly forbids any organ of the party or executive committee at the ward, state, or national levels from taking any disciplinary action against them.
He disclosed this on Monday, March 27, through a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Simon Imobo-Tswam, a day after the announcement of his suspension by the Benue State chapter of the party.
Ayu added that the alleged suspension notice was nothing more than drama, misinformation, and mischief, and that it was a pointless exercise caused by blatant “ignorance and desperation.”
On Sunday, the party’s ward executives in Igyorov Ward of the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State confirmed Ayu’s suspension due to suspected anti-party activities. The announcement was made by the ward secretary, Mr. Vangeryina Dooyum, on behalf of Kashi Philip, the ward chairman.
However, Ayu, in his statement said, “For starters, Article 57(7) of the PDP constitution as amended in 2017 expressly prohibits any organ of the party or executive committee of the party at the ward or state levels from taking any disciplinary measure against any member of the party’s National Executive Committee.
“The purported suspension is, therefore, an exercise in futility as it derives its strength majorly from gross illiteracy, ignorance, gambling and desperation. It has only mischief, drama and propaganda value.”
He further pointed out that some members of the excos were only being “teleguided by political gamblers to cause mischief and nothing more,” adding that he had not been suspended by his ward.
His statement further read, “But more than this, the so-called suspension letter was written by an illiterate before hand, and only given to the coerced members to sign somewhere in Makurdi.
“This is why the original date is typexed and 24 March imposed on it. And this is also why it states that the presidential/NASS and governorship/state assembly elections held on 25th and 18th March, 2023 respectively.
“From what we know, the document itself is fraudulent as the signatures of the ward executives were forged or obtained under duress.”

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed an appeal by Yohanna Margif, the Labour Party governorship aspirant in Plateau State.
The suit was; challenging the nomination of the party’s standard-bearer, Dr. Patrick Dakum.
Earlier, the appellant had; in his brief challenged the emergence of Dr. Dakum as the LP’s governorship candidate in Plateau, insisting that he won the governorship primary election of the party and; never withdrew his nomination.
The party, however, insisted that Margif in a letter; voluntarily withdrew his candidacy and copied the Independent National Electoral Commission in the same letter.
The party claimed; that following the withdrawal by Margif, a new primary election was; conducted which produced Dakum and his name submitted to INEC.
Consequently, Margif took the matter to a Federal High Court in Jos.
He however lost the suit as the court upheld the position of LP and; declared Dakum as the LP legitimate governorship candidate in the state.
Delivering judgment, Justice Dorcas Agishi, on December 9, 2022, affirmed Dakum as the authentic candidate of the party, having followed the party’s guidelines to emerge as the LP’s standard bearer.
The judge affirmed that Margif had signed an affidavit to withdraw voluntarily as the governorship candidate of the party which necessitated the party to conduct a fresh primary that produced Dakum.
Dissatisfied with the High Court’s decision, Margif approached the Court of Appeal but lost and subsequently moved to the Supreme Court for a final decision.
Counsel for the appellant, Opeyemi Ojo, had pleaded with the apex court to invoke Section 22 of the Supreme Court Act to take over the matter and resolve all disputed issues in the interest of justice for his client.
The five-man panel of Justices of the court rejected his plea on the ground that the conditions precedent for the court to invoke section 22 of the Supreme Court Act were not met.
Following this, the appellant withdrew his appeal and was subsequently dismissed by Justice Okoro.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded arrangement to postpone the governorship and state house of assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, March 11.
It was learnt that the postponement was due to the inability of the commission to commence the re-configuration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, to enable their use for the state elections.
Authoritative sources told the media that the commission management is currently holding a meeting, where it was considering either March 18 or March 25 for the elections.
It was however learnt that March 18 was chosen.
“You know that the BVAS re-configuration would take three or four days and since they would all be moved to the headquarters in Abuja, the machines would be re-configured and deployed to the various states and finally to the polling units,” one of the officials said.
Jang the brain behind the Creation of Lalong’s Agencies
Recently, documents have emerged revealing that the Former Governor of Plateau State Senator, Jonah David Jang had already laid the foundation for creation what became some of the agencies that Governor Simon Lalong’s administration established in Plateau state.
The documents which area leaked handover notes from the Former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah David Jang to Governor Simon Lalong who was elected on 28th April 2015, contained details of existing and proposed agencies.
Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has been commended for being the brain behind the establishment of some agencies in Plateau State including the Plateau State Peace Building Agency and The Plateau Information Communication Technology Agency, the Plateau State Contributory Health Management Agency, Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency among other.
The documents however show that some agencies were at different formative stages during that administration of Da Jonah David Jang.
Apart from the Operation Rainbow which was already in full operation during the Jang administration, the ICT Agency was in operation under the Office of the Executive Governor of Plateau State, documents have shown. This office is what later became the Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA) after the passage of the Law by the Plateau State House of Assembly.
Another one is the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, which was then operated under the Jang Administration as ‘Peace Building Office’ which was also in operation under the Office of the Executive Governor of Plateau State during the Jang era.
In addition is the Plateau Mineral Development Company Limited, which also already an established entity under the Jang Administration. These documents have gone to prove that these agencies were all visioned by the past administration of Sen. Jonah David Jang shortly before handing over to Governor Simon Lalong.
The Agencies established by the Lalong administration include the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, the Plateau Information Communication Technology Agency, the Plateau State Contributory Health Management Agency, Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency among other. These have gone ahead to do amazingly well positively affecting the lives of the citizens of Plateau State as envisioned by the Former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah David Jang as the documents revealed that he was instrumental with detailed information on the roles and responsibilities of the agencies.

Comrade Humphrey said that having met with all the Governorship candidates of the various political parties, the decision of the union to endorse the PDP candidate was reached and is based on the fact that amongst all the candidates Hon. Caleb Mutfwang is the only candidate that is passionate about the industry in Plateau State.
Amongst all the candidates Hon. Barr. Caleb Mutfwang is the only candidate that is passionate of the entertainment industry on the Plateau. He has always been in consultation with the union, which shows his commitment to the development of the entertainment industry on the Plateau.
“In light of the above the Union wishes to inform all its members that after thorough consultation with all entertainment stakeholders on the Plateau, PMAN National body and its legal advisers it has officially endorsed the PDP Gubernatorial candidate in the person of Hon. Barr. Caleb Mutfwang.

According to Humphrey the present APC lead government in the state focused on individual artists mostly outside Plateau than the union.
“The present administration have not helped in promoting artist within the state or built a relationship with the union. We have approached them on many occasion but have not received much response.
“The primary purpose of the union is to unite the entertainment industry in Plateau State and Bar. Mutfwang has promised that the adviser of entertainment will be someone from the industry that knowns the in and out of the professional which will help change the narrative for artist in the state and finish up abandored projects such as the Luka Bentu Indoor Theater.
