Hushpuppi: Lady embarks on 30-days fasting and praying for alleged fraudster (PHOTOS)

Ella Ada, a Nigerian lady who hails from Enugu state, claims she recently went on 30 days of dry fasting for Hushpuppi, the suspected Nigerian internet fraudster.

Recall Hushpuppi was arrested by Dubai police in June 2020.

Ella shared photos of herself on the mountain, burning a candle as she prayed for Hushpuppi; who has been extradited to the US to face charges bordering on internet fraud.

Read what Ella wrote:

”30 days fasting without water or food; thanks to those that checked on me.

I was on the mountain praying for my boyfriend, thanks to those that waited for me am back like I never left”

See more photos garnered from her Facebook platform below.

Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi is facing criminal charges in the US. He stands accused of defrauding and also conspiring to steal millions of dollars from victims around the world.

Hushpuppi frequently posts about his lavish lifestyle, showing himself in luxurious hotels; also expensive cars, as well as designer clothes.

According to the description on his page, he is a real estate developer. However, per court documents; he is accused of stealing as well as laundering millions of dollars.

In particular, a complaint against him says Hushpuppi runs a network of cyber criminals that targeted a US law firm; a foreign bank (reportedly a bank in Malta from which Abbas stole $14.7 million); as well as an English Premier League club.

The man’s lawyer claims he earned his money legally; by promoting designer brands on his social media page.

“He is a social media influencer with millions of followers.

He has millions of people that respect and loved him; and he loved them; and that’s what he did.

In today’s society, that’s a business”, said Gal Pissetzky

ASUU same as Boko Haram due to incessant strikes – Govs. Forum

The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), on Sunday, December 27, linked the frequent strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to the actualisation of the ideology of Boko Haram.

Specifically, the PGF claimed the recurring strikes were destroying the nation’s educational system.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Director-General of the PGF, Salihu Lukman. The statement was titled “ASUU and Indeterminate Power Struggle – The Boko Haram Logic.”

Lukman explained that the persistent strikes by ASUU was helping in the actualisation of the philosophy of Boko Haram.

He further lamented that a situation where the country’s universities were closed for over four years within two decades was antithetical to the development of the nation’s education sector.

1st News had reported that ASUU recently called off the last strike action it embarked on in March 2020; spanning about nine months.

The PGF DG called for a more determined approach to resolving the lingering crisis in the nation’s tertiary education sector; even as it called for a halt to the occasional resort to strikes by ASUU.

”In the last twenty-one years, ASUU was on strike for a record period of more than four years,” he said.

Lukman noted with disdain that the education sector had suffered huge damage due to persistent resort to strike by the university lecturers; lamenting that some respected Nigerian academics had often publicly celebrated it by arguing that ASUU had never lost any struggle against the Nigerian government, whether military or civilian.

“These are being said without any remorse or acknowledgement of the damage ASUU strikes have done to the Nigerian educational system.

“That we are even thinking that the closure of universities and our schools can produce any form of victory; with reference to any form of outcome demonstrates our nasty state of mind; which brings us closer to the Hobbesian reality that civilisation would have long resolved.

“How can anyone with a child whose dream and aspiration should include being educated; celebrate in any form the closure of schools? What difference is such logic from the Boko Haram objective of abolishing western education?

“It is very sad that it is common knowledge now that in the last twenty-one years; ASUU was on strike for a record period of more than four years.

“Worse still is the fact that we have people who claim to be public intellectuals that present such a reprehensible scorecard and by any standard a scandalous credential as achievement is sickening.

“At this rate, we may as well accept that Boko Haram terrorists are also public intellectuals. In any event, who is a public intellectual? Aren’t Boko Haram terrorists engaged in critical thinking, research, and reflections? If their mission is to abolish western education; how farther away from that mission is the activity of any group that causes closure of our universities for nine months in one academic calendar?

“If our universities are closed for nine months, what does that mean to the remainder of the education system? Assuming that secondary students are able to pass their exams, will they gain admission into universities? Where will the space come from when existing students have not graduated?”

APC slams PDP over assertion tagging Nigeria ‘failed state’

The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Sunday, December 27, slammed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party and other commentators that Nigeria was tilting towards becoming a failed state.

According to the APC, despite claims by naysayers and partisan doomsday predictions, Nigeria was nowhere near a failed state.

This was contained in a statement titled, “Nigeria Nowhere Close to a Failed State – APC,” signed by the Secretary of the Caretaker/ Extra-Ordinary National Planning Committee, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, in Abuja.

Akpanudoedehe said, “The President Muhammadu Buhari government is not oblivious to the country’s challenges; and is visibly and frontally addressing them.

“From the economy to security, it is easy, to sum up, Nigeria with some recently recorded security incidents; and the economic downturn. However, this government has displayed the political will and capacity; to contain any criminal/terrorist activity and return the economy to growth.

“President Buhari’s administration which sees the urgent need to have a better policing system for the country and is embarking on sweeping police reforms and supporting community policing is definitely not governing a country close to becoming a failed state.

“Amid the COVID-19 induced economic slowdown, President Buhari’s administration which is stimulating the economy by preventing business collapse; supporting labor-intensive sectors such as agriculture; creating jobs through infrastructural investments in roads, rails, bridges; promoting manufacturing and local production at all levels to attain self-sufficiency in critical sectors of the economy, is definitely not governing a country close to becoming a failed state.”

The APC scribe noted that President Buhari’s regime was implementing one of the world’s largest and far-reaching social investment programmes; targeting the very poor and other vulnerable groups; including women and persons living with disabilities through pro-poor spending.

He implored Nigerians to recall, “the ignoble pastime of past administrations; which would rather bury its head in sand and spin conspiracies in the face of insecurity; and engage in voodoo economics to hoodwink Nigerians; while national resources were stolen and diverted to political cronies. Those days are gone.”

The statement added, “While the PDP and their hirelings engage in their unfortunate and apparently orchestrated attacks on the Armed Forces and other security services, the APC will rather support their efforts and charge them to do more to further degrade the capacity of terrorists and other criminal elements to attack soft targets.”

Police Commission replies Ohanaeze over allegations of lopsided promotions

The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Sunday, December 27, revealed that the promotion of policemen is not based on ethnic considerations.

1st News had reported that the Ohanaeze criticised the PSC for alleged bias towards Igbo Police officers in its recent promotion exercise.

However, the Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement said promotions of senior police officers including promotion into the office of Commissioner of Police are based on the availability of vacancies; seniority; free of any pending disciplinary matter as well as merit; except in few cases of special promotion.

The statement reads, “The Ohanaeze noted that only one Igbo son was promoted to the rank of CP in the recent exercise; and also that all Commissioners of Police in the South East are Northerners. It also observed that not many Igbo Officers are in the high echelon of the Force.

“The Commission holds the Ohanaeze and it’s leadership in high esteem; and will wish to clarify its position in the Promotion and placement of senior Police officers.

“The Commission wishes to state that Promotions of senior Officers including Promotion into the office of Commissioner of Police are based on the availability of vacancies; seniority; free of any pending disciplinary matter and also merit; except in few cases of special promotion.

“Even for a special promotion, there are laid down rules, regulations, and conditions which an Officer must satisfy such as; must have stayed two years in a rank; must not have had any special Promotion in the immediate past five years and must not have a pending disciplinary matter, (PDM).

“The Commission also allows the Inspector General who is the operational head of the Police; to recommend qualified and deserving Officers to the Commission for Promotion. This is a synergy the Commission has forged with the Police; to ensure complementarity in the management of its Officers.

“Also, the Commission does not and has never approved Promotion of any Officer based on ethnic; or any other consideration except the ones stated above.”

“The Commission wishes to assure the leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo that it will at no time consciously marginalize any section of the country; in the Promotion and deployment of senior Police Officers. The Commission will continue to be guided by the established rules guiding Promotions in the police; and in the larger interest of the Nigerian nation.”

24-year-old lady leaves suicide note on social media, says ‘If you are reading this, I’m gone’

A 24-year-old lady published her own suicide note on social media before she took her own life.

She wrote, ‘If you are reading this, I’m gone…’

The 24-year-old lady identified as Yocheved Gourarie jumped to her death from the Vessel sculpture in Hudson Yards in New York had written a suicide note on Instagram and it only appeared online after her suicide.

Yocheved Gourarie’s suicide post reads; “If you’re reading this, I’m gone. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing I am no longer in pain.”

She scheduled the post to be published one day after her death.

On Tuesday, December 22, Gourarie rode the subway into Manhattan and bought a ticket to the Vessel, a popular tourist attraction.

According to police reports, she did not bring a suicide note but had taken with her “information making it easy to ascertain who to contact.”

A day after her death, on Wednesday, December 23, her suicide note appeared on her Instagram account.

It reads:

“Hey….

I guess if you don’t know by now you should probably sit down.

If you’re reading this, I’m gone.

Either that or somehow incapacitated in the hospital; so I can’t delete this scheduled post.

I really hope I’m not though.”

Continue reading her heartbreaking note below;

“I don’t care to go into the reasons why I’m gone, but there are certainly more than thirteen.

“I scheduled a note to send to my parents posthumously….Even just publishing this may pain them. I don’t want to do that, I just want to leave my last mark on this world.”

She concluded,  “All of you have made my life so much more full, brighter, and happier than it would have been without you. Your support, your encouragement, your hugs, your invitations, your smiles, your texts, you’re tagging me in memes you think I’d find funny.

“None of you could have done anything – or done more – to prevent this from happening. You all did your absolute best and for that, I am eternally grateful. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing I am no longer in pain. I love you.”
