Appeal Court Confirms Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan as the Winner of Kogi Central Senatorial Election

In a significant legal development, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has officially declared Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan of the Peoples Democratic Party as the rightfully elected candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial Election conducted in February 2023. This verdict comes after the court dismissed the appeal lodged by Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress, deeming it lacking in merit.

Back in September, the state’s Election Petitions Tribunal had initially proclaimed Akpoti-Uduagan as the victor in the Kogi Central Senatorial election and invalidated Ohere’s victory. Tribunal Chairman, Justice K. A. Orjiako, delivered a unanimous judgment, revealing discrepancies in the election results. It was discovered that Ohere’s results were inflated in nine polling units in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area, while Natasha’s results were reduced in these areas, with the omission of the results of three additional polling units meant for Natasha in the same LGA.

Ohere’s quest for redress led him to the Appeal Court, which has now upheld the victory of Akpoti-Uduagan. In response to this pivotal court decision, Akpoti-Uduagan expressed her gratitude and joy on her official Facebook page, saying, “We won the Appeal. Joy amidst tears.

Jeremiah Gyang Supports Gospel Artists Charging for Performances and Ticket Sales

Jeremiah Gyang, a renowned Nigerian singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and record producer, has voiced his endorsement of artists, both in the secular and gospel music realms, who charge fees for performing at churches and sell tickets for their concerts.

In an exclusive interview with Matthewtegha Blog, Jeremiah Gyang, widely recognized as one of Nigeria’s most versatile artists, shared his perspective on the ethical aspects of gospel musicians requesting payment for their performances, emphasizing that there is nothing morally objectionable about this practice.

Gyang staunchly defended artists in the Christian space, asserting that they shouldn’t be criticized for setting gate fees for their concerts. He passionately expressed, “Those who work hard should be compensated, so if artists are organizing concerts and charging fees, the audience should be willing to pay. Whether it’s gospel or secular music, if there’s a ticket price, it should be respected. If you appreciate their work, pay the fee. If you don’t, then abstain from paying, but complaining about it is a sign of disrespect for the hard work of these artists.”

The multi-talented artist explained that hosting concerts involves significant financial investments, stating, “Some may argue that it’s all about money, but one must understand that hosting concerts requires funding. You can’t approach a venue owner and expect to use their facility for free while expecting blessings, just as you can’t ask an instrument seller to provide instruments without payment.”

Jeremiah Gyang stressed the importance of fair compensation for labor, asserting that there is no biblical distinction between gospel and secular musicians, and all musicians deserve payment for their efforts. He noted, “Even musicians who serve in churches and perform on pulpits should receive compensation, as it is a fair practice. When audiences enjoy the music but refuse to pay, they indirectly disrespect the musicians and, in a way, disrespect the prophets.”

To support his viewpoint, Gyang referenced Nehemiah 12:46 and 47 from the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, highlighting the biblical order that he believes should be upheld in today’s churches. He argued that both musicians and ushers should receive financial support from the church to maintain decorum and professionalism, and if any issues arise, the church should bear the responsibility.

Furthermore, Gyang cited Nehemiah 13:10, emphasizing that gospel musicians today should be compensated using tithes and offerings as resources.

Regarding his music and its connection with the audience, Jeremiah Gyang explained his two distinct audiences and how he tailors his approach to each. For music enthusiasts, he emphasizes the artistic beauty of his work, while for those who engage with his message, he focuses on themes of repentance, return, and rising, aiming to contribute to nation-building and encourage people to return to God. He also expressed concerns about the Christian Church’s shift towards industry service instead of guiding people back to God.

Plateau PMAN Takes a Stand Against Plateau Got Talent Organizers Amid Controversy

The Plateau State Chapter of the Performing Musicians Association and Employers of Nigeria (PMAN) has voiced its strong disapproval and concerns surrounding the recent Plateau Got Talent event. The competition’s legitimacy and its representation of Plateau State’s rich music culture are under scrutiny.

The controversy revolves around the competition’s latest winner, raising doubts about the ability of Plateau Got Talent to identify and promote genuine talent within the state. In response to these developments, Plateau PMAN, led by State PMAN Governor Comrade Color Humphery Iroegbu, has imposed a ban on COA Media, the organizers of Plateau Got Talent, preventing them from hosting similar events until a comprehensive evaluation and upgrade aligning with industry standards are completed and approved by PMAN.

Plateau State is renowned for its musical history and local talent, having produced globally recognized artists like 2baba, Mi Abaga, Ruby Gyang, and Ice Prince. However, Plateau Got Talent has failed to capture the true essence of the state’s remarkable talent. It is with a heavy heart that Plateau PMAN denounces the recent proceedings of this talent show.

The disappointment extends beyond the artists of Plateau to the broader community, as the event organizers seem to prioritize sensationalism and profit over nurturing local talent. The union, in collaboration with the State government, is dedicated to creating an enabling environment for entertainment on the Plateau and upholding the highest standards of talent promotion.

Comrade Color Humphery Iroegbu, the State PMAN Governor, emphasizes the need for Plateau Got Talent to reevaluate its values and responsibilities to the Plateau State artistic community. The Plateau PMAN is ready to offer support and insights to ensure that future events align with the rich musical history of the state and nurture the next generation of musical stars.

Collective efforts are crucial to promoting genuine Plateau talent, fostering a vibrant and sustainable musical environment for artists and the broader community.

Signed,

Comrade Color Humphery Iroegbu

The Unrevealed Benefits of Joining PMAN for Artists: Unlocking Your Potential in the Music Industry

The Performing Musicians Employers’ Association Of Nigeria (PMAN) is a venerable organization established by Christy Essien-Igbokwe and Sunny Okosun in 1984 with the primary aim of safeguarding, advocating for, and promoting the interests of musicians in Nigeria. Endorsed by the Nigerian government under the Trade Unions Act, PMAN also shoulders the responsibility of regulating the music profession within the country.

This body provides a ready-made framework for artists and musicians to harness, enabling them to assert their rights and privileges. It’s a hidden gem that often flies under the radar, mainly because show organizers, event planners, and others in the industry don’t want artists in Plateau to grasp the power that PMAN wields.

As a PMAN member, your rights and entitlements as an artist are safeguarded.

The benefits are plenty:
✅ Health insurance
✅ Broadcasting of your songs in 162 countries (thanks to PMAN’s own Radio & TV station)
✅ Access to grants
✅ Residential permits abroad, and a plethora of other benefits.

The call to action is clear: artists need to unite, register with PMAN, and collaboratively work to elevate the entertainment industry in Plateau State to new heights. Prominent A-list artists like Davido, 2Baba, and Skales are already part of PMAN.

PMAN’s leadership includes the likes of Pretty Okafor as the President, Rugged Man heading the Media, Sunny Neji as 1st Vice President and Zaaki Aazay as 2nd vice Presidents…. This association stands as the primary unifying force in the world of musicians today.

So, don’t hesitate; become a PMAN member now. Whether you are affiliated with a record label or not, it’s crucial to understand that PMAN can offer you a safety net, recall the case of late Mohbad. You never can tell when it will go wrong

This is a wakeup call to all artists and musicians in Plateau, urging them to work together for a more prosperous music and entertainment industry. Consider how other entertainers are organized, show mutual support, and collaborate under one unified platform to prevent event clashes and ensure fair compensation.

There’s no place for event organizers to exploit your talent by asking for free performances. Moreover, radio stations should contribute to promoting local talent and content by playing at least 60% local artists’ songs and incorporating local content in their entertainment news.

For more information, reach out to the PMAN Plateau State Chapter Secretary at 08037318256.
Or visit the office at Luca Bentu Theater, Opposite Plateau Riders

When you have PMAN, who else would you rather align with? And if you’re dissatisfied with the current leadership, join PMAN, register, and help elect the leaders you believe will represent your interests.

In a strategic move to safeguard, promote, and preserve the flourishing entertainment sector in Plateau State, the Plateau State Chapter of the Performing Musician Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has joined forces with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Hospitality. Together, they have launched a significant revenue generation initiative aimed at ensuring the orderly and successful execution of events within the state.

As per the official announcement, all event venues are now required to obtain clearance from event organizers, managers, and promoters before allowing the use of their premises. Non-compliance with this directive may result in event disruptions by PMAN Plateau State Chapter and the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality.

Amb. Comr. Humphrey (Color), the Plateau State Governor of PMAN, has expressed his enthusiasm for this much-needed collaboration, highlighting its potential to drive the growth of the entertainment sector in the state. With the support of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), this partnership is set to offer valuable assistance to both emerging and established talents in Plateau State.

PMAN Plateau State Governor, Amb. Comr. Humphrey (Color), also emphasized the importance of working closely with event organizers to meticulously assess and ensure that events meet the required standards. This collaboration’s primary goal is to prevent any negative impact on the entertainment industry’s reputation in Plateau State.

Event organizers seeking clearance can obtain the necessary documentation by visiting the PMAN Secretariat located at Luka Bentu Indoor Theater, opposite Plateau Riders, along Tafawa Belewa Street in Jos. For further information and inquiries, interested parties can also contact PMAN at the following phone numbers: 08037318256 and 07035638959.

This proactive initiative is expected to cultivate a thriving entertainment sector in Plateau State, creating a conducive environment for artists, performers, and event organizers while ensuring high-quality entertainment experiences for the state’s residents.
