Supreme Court Affirms Osun Gov-Elect, Adeleke As PDP Candidate

The Supreme Court, on Thursday, affirmed the Governor-elect of Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke as the authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the gubernatorial election that held in the state on July 16.

The apex court, in a unanimous judgement by a five-man panel of justices, dismisses an appeal that was lodged against Adeleke by Prince Dotun Babayemi who laid claim to governorship ticket of the PDP, having emerged from a parallel primary election that was held by a faction of the party in the state.

Counsel to the Appellant, Mr. Adebayo Adelodun, SAN, withdrew the appeal after the panel led by Justice Amina Augie, drew his attention to the fact that the case was statute barred.

The panel had maintained that the appeal was incompetent, stressing that it was filed outside the 14 days period provided by the law.

FG declares Monday, October 3rd public holiday to celebrate 62nd anniversary

To mark the country’s 62nd Independence Anniversary, the Nigerian Government has declared Monday, October 3 a public holiday.

Declaring the public holiday on Wednesday, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, congratulated Nigerians on this year’s Independence anniversary celebration and reiterated the government’s commitment to tackle and eradicate all forms of challenges including political, and socio-economic problems facing the country.

Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Interior, in a statement quoted Aregbesola as saying, “The world is going through dire economic and security challenges which have also affected our nation. However, I am assuring us all that the government will not abandon the people, but will continue to confront all these challenges with all the might at our disposal until respite comes our way.”

According to Aregbesola, it is important for Nigeria to celebrate its 62nd Independence anniversary.

He said, “A country of over 200 million people whose natural talents, grit, and passion glitter like the precious diamond that we are; Nigerians are sparkling like diamonds in the pack, whether in the academia, science and technology, business, innovation, music, entertainment, fashion or culture.”

He noted that though Nigeria is going through challenges, especially regarding security, the “challenges are temporary and do not define us”.

“We are defined by the greatness of the Nigerian people in our diversity, strength, ingenuity and resilience,” he said.

“We shall overcome all the challenges. A time is coming when we shall look at this period in retrospect and give thanks to the most high for the stormy waters we have waded through and the triumphs we have recorded over the challenges that look so huge and gargantuan today.”

Meanwhile, Nigerians have lamented the insecurity pervading the land as the nation marks her 62nd Anniversary.

Court prohibit OBIDients from holding rally at Lekki Toll Gate

As the campaign of Peter Obi gains ground across the youth demographics, the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the Labour Party and its supporters not to converge at the Lekki toll gate for its #Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally billed to hold on the 1st of October, 2020.

The court also directed the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State Police Commissioner to ensure compliance with the order.

Justice Daniel Osiagor made these orders on Wednesday, September 28, while ruling on a motion for injunction brought by 10 plaintiffs, who are asking the court to, among others, restrain the LP, its presidential candidate Peter Obi, his vice Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, one Julius Abure and their loyalists from holding the rally.

The court further ruled that while the rally cannot stop at the Lekki toll gate, it may pass through the area to get to the Falomo Bridge and other locations where it intends to congregate.

However, because all parties to the lawsuit had not been served, the defendants’ preliminary objection, which sought to prevent the court from hearing the motion on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction, could not be taken into consideration.

The judge postponed the hearing on the main lawsuit until November 4.

In the suit, 10 plaintiffs through their Romeo Ese Michael, Esq. are asking the court to, among others, restrain the LP, its presidential candidate Peter Obi, his vice Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, one Julius Abure and their loyalists from holding the rally, until the hearing and determination of their Motion-On-Notice of September 12, 2022.

In the substantive suit, the plaintiffs are arguing among other things that a repeat or celebration of the “infamous” EndSARS protest of 2020 under the political guise of “#Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally” will cause a breakdown of peace and will result in post-traumatic stress disorder for them and the public.

PMAN Plateau respond to Terry G’s failure to turn up for an event in Jos

The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Plateau State chapter have responded to the recent saga going round the social media about Terry G’s refusal to turn up for an event which he was paid for to perform in Jos on Sunday 25th September, 2022

Amb. Comr. IROEGBU Humphrey, PMAN Governor, Plateau State Chapter in a statement fumes at the incident as stated below.

“It has come to the notice of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) Plateau State Chapter of an ongoing saga between an entertainment company here on the Plateau and a popular musical artiste in Lagos called “Terry G” the Akpako crooner.

According to the informations that got to us, states that; “Terry G” was invited for performance here in Jos, Plateau State by the said entertainment company and that they have paid him all that was required in full but never showed up for the event. On hearing this, the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) Plateau State Chapter communicated with the National body for an in-depth investigation of the issue in order to investigate and better deal with future occurrences. The PMAN National Body got in touch with the artiste “Terry G” and in his words, he responded through the National Secretary Comr. Ital Bonny that “the organizers of the event did not meet up with the agreement”. On hearing this, the governor of PMAN Plateau State Chapter Comr. Humphrey Iroegbu (Colour) received a conference call between one of the event organizers and Terry G’s manager in the person of Mr. Montero and he confirmed that the agreed amount was paid in full but Terry G in the other side told PMAN National Body that the organizers didn’t meet up with the terms of their agreement.

I believe we all can recall that similar incident happened in the past on the Plateau, where an artiste from Lagos is acknowledged, respected, invited and lastly meeting up with all the requirements as agreed in the contract and they end up not showing up or the event organizers failed on their own part to meeting up with the requirements as agreed in the contracts thereby exploiting innocent citizens of their hard earned resources. For that reason; we will stop at nothing, until we get the root of this matter to know if the fault is coming from the Event Organizers or Artistes/Artiste Management.

We will not allow anyone “elsewhere or within” to spoil or destroy the image of our entertainment industry here on the Plateau. For that reason, PMAN is presently on its toes to carefully and specifically find out what went wrong to avoid further occurrences in the State.

It is a very big crime to give hopes to the general public that an artiste or entertainer is coming to graze an event and at the end they fail to turn up. This is unacceptable and will never be tolerated either by the artiste, entertainer of any sort or event organizer who’s found wanting. All measures including legal steps will be taken to investigate and address this issues to put a stop to this misfortunes.

We encourage and urge all event organizers, before organizing any event more especially that which involves bringing an artiste or entertainer elsewhere, do yourself the Favour of letting the PMAN UNION know. This is because, the union is the network of all artistes and entertainers covering the whole 36 States with it’s headquarters in Lagos. They will help you follow up the artiste or entertainer to make sure He/She turns up and also make sure that both sides of the contracts is not compromised. This will give the general public a level of trust for your brand, knowing that you are dealing with the standard UNION and also believing that you can always deliver.

The existing collaboration between PMAN, NCC and the federal government will go a long way in dealing with issues like this. This is to inform experienced and inexperienced artistes, entertainers and event organizers that Bypassing the PMAN as a UNION will do you no good but harm and May lead to the devaluation of your brand when things like this spring up. Always deal with the UNION” for a soft landing to bringing out the best in your brand or company.

We want to assure the general public that we the organized union of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) Plateau State Chapter, are on top of the situation as stated above to get to the root of this situation, addressing it amicably and also getting the general public informed as soon as the process is completed”.

APC postpones launch of 2023 presidential campaign

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has postponed the start of its campaigns earlier slated for Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

The Director-General, of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council and Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

“Recall that we had earlier earmarked a peace walk and prayers for Wednesday; to officially kick-off our campaigns for the 2023 Presidential Elections.

“We had also announced that the members of the campaign council report at the APC campaign headquarters on that day to collect their letters of appointments.

“However, due to the expansion of the list to accommodate more stakeholders and interests within the APC family; we have decided to adjust the time-table of these activities,” he said.

He explained that this was to ensure that everyone was on board before activities officially commenced; adding that the activities earlier announced for the September 28, would no longer hold.

Lalong said as the ruling and most attractive party in Nigeria; the APC council understood the sacrifices and understanding of its teeming members; many of who were willing to volunteer themselves for this great task ahead.

He said this showed the enormous love that the party members had for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, its 2023 presidential candidates.

However, she aid that a new date and time-table of events would be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Monday, September 26, 2022 restated support for the presidential ambition of Labour Party’s Peter Obi; saying it won’t compromise its cherished principles of justice, equity, and inclusiveness.

Afenifere’s leader, Ayo Adebanjo, stated this at a press conference held at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi.

Specifically, 94-year-old Adebanjo said to keep Nigeria one in 2023, every Nigeria should be “Obi-Datti compliant”.

Peter Obi is running for Aso Rock’s top job alongside Datti Baba-Ahmed.

“The South-West has produced a president and currently sits as vice-president. The South-South has spent a total of six years in the presidency. But the Igbo people of the South-East have never tasted presidency in Nigeria…Now that the power is due back in the South, equity demands that it be ceded to the Igbo.

“We cannot continue to demand that the Igbo people remain in Nigeria, while we at the same time continue to brutally marginalize and exclude them from the power dynamic.

“Peter Obi is the person of Igbo extraction that Afenifere has decided to support and back, he is the man we trust to restructure the country back to federalism on the assumption of office.

“We will not compromise this principle of justice, equity, and inclusiveness because one of our own Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is a frontline candidate,” he said.
