JNI is not aware or in support of a purported “protest match”

JAMA”ATU NASRIL ISLAM (JNI), PLATEAU STATE

It has come to the attention of JNI Plateau State under the leadership of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Wase, Dr Muhammad Sambo Abdullahi, that some faceless individuals are announcing a purported “protest match” with the Jos Central Mosque as the take off point.

The messages which has gone virile in social media, notably the WhatsApp is not true. JNI is firmly committed to ensuring that lasting peace is restored to Jos and environs and it is therefore calling on all citizens to observe the various curfews imposed by government on Jos North, Jos South and Bassa local government areas. All should please disregard that message in circulation as nothing but a handiwork of mischief makers and crisis merchants.

RE: PROPOSED DEMONSTRATION BY MUSLIM YOUTHS IN JOS

The attention of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) has been drawn to a message circulating on social media calling on Muslim youths to embark on peaceful protest slated for tomorrow, Wednesday 18 August 2021.

The message purpotedly stated that the demonstration is expected to commence from Massallacin Jumaa Yan Dankali to Plateau State House of Assembly Complex.

While, OPSH will not want to join issues with the organizers of the planned protest, it is instructive to state that inview of the fragile nature of peace on the Plateau this protest is unnecessary and uncalled for.

We are fully aware that Muslim clerics and leaders have distanced itself from the planned message circulated and not in support of the peaceful demonstration.

OPSH is therefore sending a strong warning to those planning this demonstration (if it is true) and the originator of the message to have a rethink.

The 24 hours curfew imposed by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Plateau State Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong on Jos North local government and 12 hour curfew on Jos South and Bassa Local government area is still in place and we are fully deployed to ensure its enforcement.

OPSH will not allow any body or group to breach the fragile peace in Jos metropolis. Consequently any body found acting contrary to the law will be dealt with.
LETS GIVE PEACE A CHANCE

Please disseminate to the public through your various medium. Thank you for the usual cooperation

Mantu: Former Deputy Senate President pronounced dead after brief illness

A former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu has been pronounced dead on Tuesday, August 17, according to a family source who confirmed that the ex-lawmaker died at a private hospital in Abuja.

The source disclosed that Mantu had been ill for nine days and died at about 2 am on Tuesday.

“He fell ill about nine days ago and was receiving treatment at home but he was rushed to the hospital when there was no sign of improvement,” the source said, adding that the funeral prayer would hold later on Tuesday, in Abuja.

Mantu was elected Deputy Senate President under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in 2001.

Meanwhile, Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo, the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative, has clarified that the organisation had not ranked countries on the basis of their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mulombo made the clarification on the sidelines of the commencement of Nigeria’s second phase of the COVID-19 vaccines programme; held at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi Abuja, on Monday, August 16.

He, however, noted that Nigeria had mounted one of the most effective responses to COVID-19; putting in place courageous measures and also helping to avert the spread that was predicted.

According to him, “Some independent media analysis had previously presented a ranking for top 10 countries; with Nigeria appearing on 4th position. It should be noted, however, that this is not a WHO ranking.

“The Global Normalcy Index ranked Nigeria 4th position in the Economist’s Global Normalcy Index, out of 50 countries, which is commendable,” he explained.

He added that while the government deserved commendation; Nigerians too deserved praise for cooperating with the Federal Government throughout the difficult times.

“As I always mentioned at different fora, vaccines are a critical tool in the battle against COVID-19.

“These vaccines are safe and effective and will be the game-changer: but for the foreseeable future, we must continue wearing masks; physical distance; as well as avoid crowds.

“I will like to remind everyone, that most countries; including Nigeria, are currently experiencing the third wave of COVID-19 outbreaks,” he said.

Security Heads brief Gov Lalong on insecurity, Say they are after miscreants

Heads of security agencies in Plateau State this Sunday, 15th August 2021 briefed Governor Simon Bako Lalong on the security situation in the State and the level of implementation of the curfew imposed on Jos North, Jos South and Bassa LGAs.

The heads of the security agencies present at the closed-door meeting with the Governor include the Commander, Operation Safe Haven and GOC 3rd Armoured Division, Commissioner of Police, Airforce Commander, and State Director DSS.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Commissioner of Police Edward Egbuka said the various heads of security agencies briefed the Governor on the security situation which he said was under control.

He said the imposition of the 24 hour curfew in Jos North from this Sunday has curtailed the spread of violence in the Jos metropolis where 7 persons were killed.

According to him, a total of 36 persons from yesterday’s attack were rescued unhurt and in good condition. He said so far, more persons have been arrested and investigation is still ongoing.

CP Egbuka also addressed the controversy over the identity of those behind the attacks saying: “these are miscreants and hoodlums who want to take advantage of the situation to cause trouble and loot. This is not the first time it has happened. We don’t want to name anybody. It’s just miscreants and miscreants will also want to take advantage”.

He assured that the security agencies will go all out to ensure that they fish out the criminals and miscreants who must be made to face the law of the land.

He advised the citizens to abide by the curfew and avoid violations as the security agencies are poised to enforce the directives of the Governor in maintaining law and order.

Earlier, the Co-Chairmen of the Plateau Inter-Religous Council, Rev. Prof. Pandang Yamsat and Emir of Wase Alhaji Muhammadu Sambo Haruna met with the Governor behind closed doors to discuss the intervention of the Council in calming the current situation. They disclosed that the Council will be carrying out its engagements to further douse the tension.

Irigwe Group Lambast Daily Trust For Inciting Headline, Call on NBC to wield Sanctions.

IRIGWE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (IDA)

RE- IRIGWE YOUTHS KILL* *25 FULANI TRAVELLERS IN JOS ,OVER 5O MISSING…

While the leadership of Irigwe Development Association (IDA) continued to condemn the barbaric act that occurred along Rukuba Road of Jos North on the 14th August,2021 where some hoodlums attacked a convoy of five buses and killed some commuters while several others sustained varying degree of injuries,we want to reiterate that such heinous act was not in anyway perpetrated by Rigwe Youth.

The leadership wish to sanely condemn the report published by DailyTrust Newspaper on Sunday August 15,2021 outrightly affirming that the Saturday, August 14 attack along Rukuba Road of Jos North was carried out by Irigwe Youths even when no court of competent jurisdiction has declared the Irigwe Youths guilty of commiting the act.

The caption of the report which reads; ” Irigwe Youths kill 25 Fulani Travellers in Jos ,over 50 missing” is not only malicious but vicious in its entirety and capable of placing the Rigwe Nation on the map of bad people as well as have the propensity of inducing other noble people against the Rigwe people.

One would wonder how quickly the National Daily arrived at the identity of the victims and perpetrators when no formal investigation has been carried out. Could it that there’s more to this swift profiling of Rigwe people? This, we shall unravel soonest.

No doubt that the report was done on the platter of religious and ethnicity as the elements used are purely inciting, instigating and trouble fomenting and this is completely against the ethics and codes of journalism and reportage which stipulates that a journalist should refrain from making pejorative reference to a person’s ethnic group, religion, sex or to any physical or mental illness or handicap.
A Journalist should strive to enhance national unity and public good. A journalist should promote universal principles of human rights, democracy, justice, equity, peace and international understanding. A journalist should not copy, wholesale or in part, other people’s work without attribution and/or consent.

This has not only revealed the unprofessional nature of the Daily Trust Newspaper but has shown how unqualified they are in terms of information management as peace journalism has been relegated by them and had their focus shifted to emotion and promotion and propagation of violence and conflict.

Aside this being a deviation and violation against the Nigeria Broadcast Code(NBC) 6th edition where the introduction 2(3a) states that “Broadcasting shall adhere to the general principles of legality, decency, truth, integrity and respect for human dignity as well as the cultural, moral and social values of the people within the provisions of the Constitution” it also shows a negation of Chapter 1(2.4) which stipulates that “Sensationalism shall be avoided by refraining from speculations, statements, details or exaggerations that could aggravate mass panic or hysteria.”

Worthy of note is that the said National Daily has not been publishing the reports of atrocities committed by Fulani Herdsmen in Rigwe Nation for over three weeks where over 70 people have been killed, over 2,500 households burnt down, over 25,000 people displaced, over 1000 hectres of farmlands mowed and destroyed and many domestic animals and household items looted. This is an attestation that they are completely out for an agenda which is to promote evil against good.

By this, no one can object that the act done by Daily Trust Newspaper is a defamation of character of entire Rigwe people and therefore must not go unpunished.

While we seek legal redress on this matter,we demand an open apology letter as well as a swift retraction or withdrawal of the report from the management of Daily Trust Newspaper as the dragging of Rigwe name to the mud is unacceptable and uncalled for.

We want to draw the attention of the Director General of National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Mr Balarabe Ilelah to as matter of utmost importance sanction Daily Trust Newspaper for violating the established ethics of professional journalism in order to serve as a deterrent for others nursing the same thing.

Finally, we want to advice the media outlets to always check and verify information before they are dished out to the public in order to avoid flaming the nation.

Rigwe people will continue to be part and parcel of any process that will ensure that peace reigns in all parts of Nigeria.

Remember,a nation grows higher when EQUITY, JUSTICE and FAIRNESS supersedes Emotions and Sentiments based on ethnicity, religion and political affiliation.

Thank you and God bless.

Signed
Davidson Malison,
National Publicity Secretary, IDA
