          PMAN: Why Musicians/Artists needs to Join the Association

          WHAT IS PMAN AND WHY JOIN PMAN?

          The Performing Musicians Employers’ Association Of Nigeria and abbreviated as (PMAN) is an organisation founded by Christy Essien-Igbokwe and Sunny Okosun in 1984 to guide, protect and promote the interests of Musicians in Nigeria, Authorized by the government of Nigeria under the Trade Unions Act, the organisation also has the responsibility to regulate the practice of music profession in the country.

          The sole aim of the association are.

          To organize an Association d of musicians who are engaged in the employment of the services of musical instrumentalists, producers, entertainment managers, arrangers etc. in the performance of their duties, under a virile, strong and united body for their mutual benefits and welfare.

          To promote the study, practice and dissemination of the knowledge of music and musicology throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

          To establish the machinery for negotiations between the Associations and the representatives of other persons or bodies engaged in the use of the works of the musicians.

          To determine by negotiations between the Associations and to organize an association of musicians who are engaged in music entertainment at all levels, in the performance of their duties under a virile, strong and a united front for their mutual benefits and welfare.

          To establish the machinery for negotiations between the Association and the representatives of affiliates at the national level.

          To secure equitable observance of Agreements so reached by negotiation.

          To support members bearing in mind their area of musical interest and their geographical area of operation.

          To engage in and organize the training and education of members generally and to set up institutions to facilitate such training and education in Nigeria.

          To eradicate or reduce the infringement of copyright throughout Nigeria by promoting the legislation and enforcement of relevant laws.

          To protect members of the Association from persons whose character and circumstances render them unworthy of practice and participation in the music industry.

          To protect the creative and performing rights of all member musicians in Nigeria.

          To enter into agreements with Phonograph producers; Record label owners; Manufactures of photograph records and Music audio/visual at all levels; Broad casting organizations; Hotels, Night clubs; Concert halls; Cinema houses and other venues where music is used for public entertainment, for the payment of Royalties to members through the Association, as PMAN deems fit. This rule relieves anybody or group hitherto from the responsibility and places it on PMAN henceforth.

          To take such action as may be necessary and reliable for the purpose of avoiding industrial dispute.

          To give members all such possible assistance as is in the opinion of the members of the Association proper and desirable.

          To engage in the importation, exportation, manufacturing RIONG distribution of musical instruments and accessories.

          To liaise, affiliate or co-operate with bodies of musicians in other countries and other international organizations for the achievement and furtherance of the objects of the Association.

          To publish and distribute periodicals, newspapers, books, leaflets, documents, magazine, sheet music and other related publications and documents that the Association may deem desirable in the promotion of its interest and that of its members.

          To collect and disseminate statistical and other data and information relating to music and the music industry to all the appropriate authorities and bodies in Nigeria.

          To effect settlement of dispute pertaining to payments of royalties and other fees and entitlements between members and their recording companies and other commercial/industrial disputes whenever such occur.

          To promote co-operation, assistance and unity amongst individual members as well as mutual understanding amongst related industries, Union, Associations.

          To co-operate with, advice and make representations to governments on all matter affecting musicians, performing artistes and the music industry in Nigeria.

          To control and enforce all rules and regulations guiding the use of musical works and sound recordings of non-Nigerians in Nigeria; including order to avoid the subversion of the above objectives.

          To perform and engage in the pursuit of other activities which in the opinion of the Association are lawful and incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects of the Association.

          To ensure that every practicing or performing musician becomes a member of the Association.

          Gov. Mutfwang charges Security agencies to go after killer bandits and leave local politics

          The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has expressed sadness over the coordinated attacks by bandits that have claimed the lives of several people and property destroyed in some parts of Barkin Ladi Local Government area of the State.

          This is coming in the wake of what looked like coordinated attacks which claimed lives and property in the area. The attacks affected communities such as Kak, Ranyam, Nging, Lohala and Buka.

          Governor Mutfwang is sympathizing with the victims and their families. He condemned in strong terms, the bloody attacks that perished lives of many innocent persons and urged the security agencies to diligently execute their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property in the state in order to put a stop to the wanton spilling of blood and burning of property

          In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere on Sunday 18th June 2023, Governor Mutfwang charged security agencies to consider the redeployment of more personnel to the communities that are under attack to prevent further destruction of lives and properties.

          The Governor used the opportunity to appeal to security agencies to remain neutral and refrain from meddling into the local politics of the State which according to him is outside their purview.

          Governor Mutfwang reiterated the commitment of his administration to work with the existing security apparatus at the federal level, using multifaceted approaches to secure innocent communities who have been under invasion by the bandits.

          He saluted the gallantry of some of the officers and men of various security agencies who have made sufficient sacrifices in curbing the spate of attacks and encouraged them to put in more efforts to halt the ugly trend..

          While commiserating with the families of the deceased, Governor Mutfwang reassured Plateau citizens of his commitment to addressing their plights, particularly the issues of insecurity so as to bequeath the requisite development and progress the state is yearning for

          He called on citizens irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliations to join hands with government in finding lasting solutions to the unwarranted attacks on innocent villagers without any form of provocation.

          24 Hours Curfew imposed in Mangu LGA in Plateau State

          A 24 hour curfew has been declared in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau with effect from 18th June, 2023. According to a statement issued by the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Mangu LGA, Hon Markus Artu and made available to journalists in Jos on Sunday 18th June 2023, it reads that “As such there will be no vehicular movement of any sort.”.

          Furthermore, the the statement stresses that all movement on motorcycles have also been banned until further notice, adding that “Only Security personnel and workers on essential duty will be allowed to move.”.

          This is coming hours after reports of attacks in some communities in B/Ladi LGA of the State. Scores were reportedly killed, thousands displaced and property destroyed in the area.

          While reacting to the attack, the Governor of Plateau State In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere on Sunday 18th June 2023, he charged security agencies to consider the redeployment of more personnel to the communities that are under attack to prevent further destruction of lives and properties.
