COVID-19: Plateau State Govt Urge Citizens to Adhere to Health Protocols

With the resurgence of COVID-19 and increase in the number of people being affected by the virus, the Plateau State Government has called on Citizens to adhere strictly to laid down health protocols in order not to be infected by the Virus.

The government expressed dissatisfaction over inability of the citizens to stick to health protocol aimed at preventing the spread of the virus.

The Commissioner of Health, Nimkong Lar made the disclosures at an interaction with Press Men today.
He said the State recorded 186 New Cases in 5 Days.

“People are not adhering to COVID-19 Protocols as they go to public places without preventive aids”

“People are nonchalant and indifferent about COVID-19, but i want to call on them to take responsibility and adhere to all health protocols” he said.

He admonished the people not to be careless as they go about their engagements in the yuletide season.

Dr. Lar said the Executive Governor, Barr. Simon Lalong who tested positive for the virus is in stable condition in self isolation and asymptomatic. He said so far the Governor has carried out 3 COVID-19 Tests.

Commissioner of Information and Communication, Hon. Dan Manjang said people must exercise caution and stay safe.
He expressed dismay that Religious institutions in the State are not complying to laid down protocols as they don’t observe social distancing, people don’t wear face masks; no provision of water, soaps for washing hands and hand sanitizers.

Hon. Manjang said the present situation has not warranted government to impose lockdown in the State. He appealed to the citizens to obey all health protocols and maintain personal hygiene. He said the State Government is a responsible government but may put measures if people continue to contravene guidelines.

PDP commences campaign to ensure rescue of abducted Katsina schoolboys

The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus on Thursday, December 17, led other members of the party to stage a peaceful protest in Abuja to press their demands over the rescue of the kidnapped Katsina schoolboys.

1st News gathered the PDP Chairman joined hundreds of women and youths who were protesting the abduction of over 300 students of the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The protesting women and youths were demanding the immediate and safe rescue of students abducted last week.

It was reported the protesters had stormed the Presidential campaign headquarters of the PDP in Maitama, Abuja, displaying various placards bearing such inscriptions as “Buhari has failed,” “Buhari, bring back our boys,” “Buhari values his cows more than human lives,” among others.

According to them, the time had come for the President to throw in the towel, saying his inability to secure the nation is now glaring for all to see.

Standing in solidarity with the protesting women and youths, the PDP Chairman noted that the situation in the country had become too dangerous for silence even as he called on the President to immediately bring the abducted students back and unhurt.

Meanwhile, the terrorist group, Boko Haram on Thursday, December 17, released a video showing that it has custody of the students abducted from a government secondary school in Kankara, Katsina State.

In the six-minute-and-30-second video released by Boko Haram, scores of young boys could be seen behind him, all covered in dust and appearing to be within a forest area.

The demands of the group were relayed by a relatively older schoolboy who urged the Nigerian Government to settle amicably with their abductors and advised against the use of military force in rescuing them.

Some of the others were crying but they claimed they were in good health.

According to the boy who spoke, they were 520 in number but some of them were killed because the government sent troops to rescue them.

He urged the Federal Government to settle amicably with their Boko Haram abductors and advised against the use of military force in rescuing them.

A voice behind the camera could be heard telling the pupil what to say.

“We have been caught by the gangs of Abu Shekau; some of us were killed,” the distraught student said.

The Boko Haram abductors in the video said they kidnapped the students because the government refused to stop killing and arresting Fulani criminals.

“We did this because you refused to stop killing and arresting Fulani,” one of them said.

Boyfriend kills girlfriend, self following breakup

A livid 29-year-old boyfriend has taken his life moments after killing his girlfriend for abruptly ending their relationship.

The jealous boyfriend, Kaluwayo Mwika could not withstand losing his girlfriend to another man, hence he gruesomely murdered her. The young lady, Mapalo Masiku, 21, was laid to rest on Wednesday, December 16, in Luanshya, Copperbelt Province, Zambia.

Mwika, 29, committed suicide by hanging immediately after killing his girlfriend.

It is believed that Mapalo wanted to end the relationship because she had found a new lover.

The 29-year-old boyfriend hangs self.
The remains of the late 21-year-old lady.

However, this didn’t go well with Mwika so he lured her somewhere near a bush where he strangled her to death.

Central Province Commissioner of Police, Chola Katanga; who confirmed the incident, said Masiku was a second-year student at Chitambo College of Nursing and of House Number 351, Mikomfwa Township in Luanshya, Copperbelt Province.

Mr Katanga said the incident happened on Sunday, December 13; within the nearby bush of Chitambo College of Nursing.

He said Kaluwayo allegedly hanged himself at Chito Area, about 18km from the scene of the crime, Chitambo College of Nursing.

Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo said initial investigations indicated that the victim had a misunderstanding with her boyfriend who had just completed school at the same College.

Mrs Katongo said the suspect is believed to have called a friend to the victim to give direction to where the body was.

“The body was found with injuries and was been picked and taken to Chitambo District Hospital mortuary and today.

Police received information that the suspect has committed suicide,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner said police are looking into a recorded call that Kaluwaya had with one of his friends where he confessed to have killed his girlfriend.

Katanga said in the recording, Kaluwaya said he killed Mapalo because she dumped him for another man despite him putting a ring on her finger.

The recording reads:

“I told her that let’s go somewhere and talk, we then went somewhere near the bush…

We then talked about our relationship.

She couldn’t cooperate.

Further, she told me that she has found a new guy called Patrick.

She then told me that she no longer loves me, but she is ready to give me a child.

As a matter of fact, she said she can give me anything. We then enjoyed ourselves.”

“Later the argument continued again because I was hurt; for her to leave me!

That’s how I strangled her neck, till she died.

I then hit her with a piece of tree on the head.

As a matter of fact, I don’t believe that she is still alive, if she is alive, then she must thank her God.

I hope they will find her body.

This is my last call, I hope that you will find my body, my phone is on; and the people who will pick my corpse will communicate.

I’m using a small phone, no password…I’m gone!.”

Plateau Citizens cry over high rate of insecurity

The high rate of insecurity on the plateau is alarming despite the efforts of security agencies!!

Plateau state of recent has witnessed some isolated acts of criminality such as Kidnapping, cultism, robbery etc making the entire state not too  safe  for people to go about with their normal activities. One would ask who is to be blamed? The government ? Or security agencies?

Security agencies have carried out a couple of raids and arrests of  kidnappers, cultists within Jos /Bukuru Metropolis including our villages where some innocent people were murdered. One  would begin to ask has any of the culprits been successfully prosecuted?  If no,why? These are pertinent questions we the citizens need to ask. Do we need enabling laws to enhance the operations of security agencies as well as prosecution of culprits? Secondly, where are the CCTVs that the State government installed early this year?

How come such CCTVs can’t track any culprits in the act? How come Kidnapping is  still successfully carried out in isolated places in the state without any track?

Can plateau achieve any meaningful development under such tensed scenario? The state Government  needs to brace up and be proactive and learn from other state governments  where security is given priority as well as deliberately synergying with the security agencies to restore law and order in their states.

How is Gov Lalong synergizing  with  security agencies in safeguarding the lives and properties in the State. A lot more  can be achieved if truly the government is sensitive to the plea of it’s citizens.  Despite the efforts of security agencies, some citizens are living in fear in their homes. Most areas  are not safe, people don’t feel secure outside neither inside their houses. Plateau people are crying out loud to the government and security agencies to work together to restore peace to the state by weeding out the bad eggs and duly prosecute them for others to know that Plateau is no safe haven for them.

Let’s begin to

Think Plateau! Act Plateau! We must all play our part to ensure security in the Plateau!! Security is everybody’s business!!!Share:
