Kidnappers abduct Reverend Father in Anambra

A Reverend Father has been abducted by dare-devil kidnappers in Anambra State.

4wardwego reports that the abducted cleric was identified as Rev. Fr. Valentine Oluchukwu Ezeagu.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, by 8am was confirmed by the priest’s parish; the Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy, Umahia, Abia State. This was disclosed in a letter signed by the Secretary General, Rev. Fr. Goodluck C. Ajaero.

The abducted priest was said to be travelling to his village; Igboukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State when he was attacked by the kidnappers. Specifically, he was heading home for the funeral of his late father which was scheduled for Thursday, December 17.

According to eyewitnesses who were driving behind the priest, his kidnappers numbered four armed men. They came out from the bush in a bad spot at Umulolo, Arondizuogu and accosted the priest. He was forced into the back of his car which promptly sped off.

Further, the priest was revealed to have been driving a Toyota Corolla 2005 model, with number plate – JJJ664BM.

Meanwhile, a Nigerian Evangelist identified as Victor Edet has reprimanded women who wear trousers, tights and leggings. According to him, they will be condemned to hellfire.

The Nigerian evangelist opined that ladies who wear trousers and leggings have zero chances of getting to heaven.

Specifically, Hellfire refers to the fires of Hell or lake of fire, terms used to describe Hell. Also sometimes referred to as “The Flame of The Dead” due to its links to the underworld.

Equally important, he stated this on his Facebook page.

Here is what he wrote:

”THE Cold weather in Europe, America and Canada shouldn’t be an excuse why you should wear Trouser, Tight or Leggings. There are Women who wore skirts in Ancient Day’s in Europe, American and Canada before Satan Introduced Female Trouser.

”If you are still wearing Trouser, Tights and Leggings as a Lady; your chance’s of getting to Heaven is Zero. Deuteronomy:22-5.”

Plateau: Insecurity on a rise, a mater of concern that needs urgent attention

Insurgency in Nigeria tends to become alarming on a daily, different forms of insecurity keep on arising putting the safety of the citizens at risk. Insecurity ranging from

-Fulani Herdsmen

-unknown Gunmen

-Bandits

-Kidnappers

-Boko Haram and a host of others

These insecurities has left many families and communities homeless and refugees in their own country

The Nigerian Arm Force updates its citizens daily on having to curb these insurgencies off the countries system, but the more they try, the more attacks on innocent citizens.

These insecurities has affected the younger generation psychologically especially those in rural communities, not to talk more on the economic state of these families who have to run on a daily to save their heads from Kidnappers, unknown Gunmen and bandits .

Recently the President of the Republic of Nigeria President Buhari claimed to have no idea on how bad the state of security has become. This clearly states that the plight and cries of the people reach him not.

Plateau state is not an exception, the governor at some point has done well to maintain a serene atmosphere of peace and tranquillity, but notwithstanding the rant of insecurity is still on a rampage as the Kidnappers are still in action.

Kidnaping is now a daily routine in the state, where citizens are no longer safe neither in their homes nor in the public spaces.

-Presume you remember the University of Maiduguri student who was slain by his abductors

-The Jos Cocin Church Pastor who was also abducted by this same set of kidnappers but there has been no news yet about his state.

-Not to talk of the Can members that were abducted and slain as well

Lest we talk about the daily news of theft which includes Phones, ATM cards, Bags and Money, and other treasures

These criminals are dangerous as they operate both at night and day time, considering they are always armed, they leave their victims helpless and desolate.

Cultism is not left behind as the state has experienced series of loss of lives as a result of clashes and operations from cultists who have made it a point of duty to disrupt the peace in the state

In this respect citizens are left with options than to fight for their dear life.

Citizens of plateau are left in disarray, all necessary measures needs to be put in place to tackle this realm of insecurity.

The Men of the Operation Safe Haven with a little over 2000 men, must be commended for their continuous efforts in ensuring peace and order with various arrests of criminal elements in and around Plateau state, however, it is clear the OPSH can be supported and encouraged to do more.

The questions are:

What happened to the CCTV cameras?

What happened to Operation Rainbow?

What happened to the active vigilante? Why won’t the Government provide patrol cars and put them on a salary scale which will enable them carry out their duty effectively

The government can also assist the police and other security operatives with funds and other necessary facilities to enable them carry out their function effectively.

This is a call for urgent attention to the high cry of insecurity on the Plateau and country at large.

Nigerian Army reveals ‘no foul play’ over Gen Irefin’s death, slams conspiracy theories, rumors

The Nigerian Army on Sunday, December 13, stated there was no foul play regarding the death of the late General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Major General Olubunmi Irefin.

According to the Nigerian Army, the late general died of complications arising from COVID-19 after spirited efforts to save his life; contrary to rumours and conspiracy theories.

This disclosure was contained in a statement signed by the Nigerian Army Spokesman, Brigadier-General Sagir Musa; who gave a detailed account of efforts made by army authorities to save him; leading to his last minutes and eventual demise.

“The sudden death of Maj General JO Irefin is no doubt a great loss to the Nigerian Army (NA), his family and the country at large.

“In view of the fake news, unnecessary and wicked insinuations that started emanating from unknown group or individuals, the NA wishes to inform members of the public the sequence of events that led to the death of the late senior officer.

“Recall that the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2020, started on 7 December 2020 following the virtual declaration by President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for its commencement.

“The participants who were mostly Principal Staff Officers, General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Corps Commanders, Commandants of NA schools, Directors and other invited dignitaries assembled in Giri, venue of the first phase of the conference during which Mr President virtually commissioned the NA Cyber Warfare Command Headquarters among other vital projects”, it said.

The statement explained that among the attendees was Maj Gen JO Irefin, the GOC 6 Division NA.

“While at Giri, the General started complaining of discomfort. Despite the discomfort, he was at phase 2 in life camp for the commissioning of a housing scheme for families of officers and soldiers killed in action from where he left the venue for his accommodation.

“He was later taken to Defence Medical Centre the same day at about 2125 hours having complained of fever, headache and mild cough.

“Medical history revealed that he was treated for malaria with parenteral artemether a week ago at 6 Division Medical Services and Hospital Port Harcourt where he was the GOC.

“He had a fever but oxygen saturation was normal at 99%. Other vital signs were essentially stable on presentation. A working diagnosis of drug-resistant malaria to rule out lobar pneumonia and COVID 19 infection was made.

“He was also placed on cefriaxone and COVID 19 test was requested. Consequently, in the morning of 8 December 2020; the fever and cough have subsided and he was eating well”, it said.

The Nigerian Army statement further said that “on the same day (8 December 2020); he was discharged after his sample for COVID 19 test had been taken; and was requested to self isolate pending the outcome of the test. On 9 December 2020, the result of the COVID 19 test conducted on him was positive.

“As a result, he was taken to 063 Nigerian Airforce Hospital Abuja; where his SpO saturation was noted to be well reduced to between 55 – 60%.

“He was then immediately taken to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, Abuja by the Commander 063 NAF Hospital for further management. At the hospital, he was immediately admitted and placed on high flow oxygen”.

It noted that “an initial improvement of 80 – 82% oxygen saturation was noticed. He was then commenced on Anti viral agent remdesivir based on the COVID 19 test result. Other treatment included the usual COVID 19 treatment cocktail.

“Unfortunately, despite these efforts, at about 0510 hours on Thursday 10th of December 2020; the Commander 063 NAF Hospital Abuja was informed that the senior officer desaturated again and eventually died. The cause of his death was reported as respiratory failure; secondary to the complications of COVID 19 infection”.

Brigadier-General Musa said following the aforesaid sequence of events that led to the demise of Irefin.

“This explanation is essential in order to ward off mischievous and wicked insinuations from certain quarters; alluding unwholesome act as responsible for the death of the respected senior officer, it said.

PDP implores Buhari to ensure speedy rescue of abducted Katsina schoolboys

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday, December 13, condemned the gruesome attack on Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina state, by bandits, leading to the reported deaths and abduction of scores of students.

This was contained in a communique issued by the PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan.

The PDP said it is standing with the entire Katsina people to charge President Muhammadu Buhari, as the Commander-in-chief, “who promised to lead from the front, to account for the abducted students, as the large-scale abduction happened a few hours after the President and his security machinery took over the state”.

The party held as perplexing that at a time the people of Katsina should have heaved a sigh of relief because of his presence, the abduction happened right under Mr. President’s nose; in his home state, where he had gone holidaying.

According to the communique, this development has further “exposed the failure of President Buhari to manage high-level security intelligence that ought to accompany a presidential visit”.

Also, the opposition party berated President Buhari over his refusal to honour an invitation by the House of Representatives for a collective deliberation on security.

According to the PDP, the time of this attack buttresses the fact that President Buhari, as the commander-in-chief, is “totally incapable of securing our nation; the very reason there have been widespread calls by patriotic Nigerians that he should resign”.

“This insolence of Mr President towards issues of national security compelled our caucus in the House of Representatives to demand his impeachment.

“Our party believes that if President Buhari had listened to wise counsel as proffered by the PDP and other patriotic Nigerians including the two chambers of the National Assembly to rejig the nation’s security architecture, our situation would not have deteriorated to this sorry state.

“Moreover, this particular abduction in the President’s home state, under his watch, raises further serious questions over this government’s capacity to fight insurgency.

“This is more worrisome as the state government had been known to have established contacts with, as well as pampering bandits, which Mr. President had not condemned,” the party’s statement read in part.

The PDP demanded that President Buhari should immediately quit his holidaying in Daura and go in search of, and rescue the abducted students, particularly having earlier admitted that the issue of security is his exclusive responsibility.

PDP sympathized with the people of Katsina state, particularly the parents of the kidnapped students, who have been subjected to the harrowing experience.

Umahi vows to obliterate cult groups unleashing terror on Ebonyi residents

The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi on Sunday, December 13, has issued a declaration of war on cult groups currently attacking residents of Abakaliki and other parts of the state.

Umahi made the declaration at the Christ Embassy Church, Mile 50 Layout, Abakaliki, during a special thanksgiving service.

The governor bemoaned, “We have very serious cult activities in Ebonyi and I, therefore, warn that we are commencing the fight against cultism in the state.

“I will not spare anybody that is involved in it. No matter who you are, I will not spare you.

“Those cultists arrested so far, will give us the names of other members in the state and we will come after them,” he said.

Umahi further assured the people of adequate security and directed that the shutdown Kingdom Model School belonging to the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ezza South Local Government Area of the State over cult activities will remain closed.

“People can write what they like but I cannot offend God with my position.

“They wrote that the school was shut because its proprietor refused to join the All Progressive Congress (APC) but the question remains, ‘who is such a person in the society’,” he added.

He announced the approval for distribution to Civil Servants a bag of rice and 10,000 Naira each to enable them to celebrate Christmas with their families.

The Governor equally disclosed that between the 18th and 20th of December, the state will be distributing another phase of palliative to Ebonyi residents.

“We said that between 17th to 20th, we will be sharing palliative again at the polling units.

“There will be no party. Give to everybody as listed in the polling units. We are giving to the Lord,” he said.
