Pantami: Communications Minister announces FG’s decision to extend NIN registration to April

The ongoing National Identification Number (NIN) and Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) integration exercise has been extended by 8 weeks, with a new deadline of April 6, Pantami revealed.

This new development was conveyed by the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, during the meeting of the Ministerial Taskforce on NIN-SIM registration which held on the February 1.

According to Pantami, the extension was necessary to give Nigerians and legal residents more time to integrate their NIN with the SIM.

The Minister’s message was conveyed in a statement co-signed by Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, Director of Public Affairs; and Kayode Adegoke, Corporate Communications, Nigeria Identity Management Commission.

4wardwego gathered the meeting was chaired by Pantami and attended by key stakeholders, including the EVC/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), DG/CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), DG/CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON). Others include the MD/CEOs of MTN, Airtel, 9Mobile, Ntel, Spectranet, and SMILE, as well as the COO of Globacom.

“It was reported that a total of 56.18 million NINs have been collected by the mobile network operators. Each NIN is usually tied to an average of 3 to 4 SIMs and this infers that the current figure accounts for a significant portion of the existing SIMs.

“This number of NINs collected represents a significant increase when compared with the 47.8 million reported by the Technical Committee on January 18, 2021.

“Furthermore, over 1060 registration centres for NIN have been activated and made operational by NIMC across the country, while Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have opened hundreds of centres and are rapidly deploying resources to open thousands of other NIN enrolment centres across states of the country.

“This is in line with the policy of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to enhance security and make the process of obtaining NINs easier for Nigerians,” the statement read.

The CEOs of the Telcos and the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Organisation of Nigeria commended Pantami for his stellar leadership and commitment to the rapid development of the sector.

In his response, the Minister reiterated the need for Nigerians and legal residents who are yet to register for the NIN to be diligent and take advantage of the extension to enroll for their NIN and link with their SIMs.

It would be recalled that the 4th of February, 2020 was the initial date of the commencement of the National NIN-SIM Registration Policy.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria applauds all Nigerians and persons of other nationalities for their understanding, cooperation, and for enthusiastically participating in the exercise.

“It is noteworthy that Sections 27 and 29 of the National Identity Management Commission Act 2007 provides for the mandatory use of National Identity Number for transactions, including application and issuance of a passport, the opening of personal bank accounts, purchase of insurance policies, voter registration, obtaining credit, among others.”

Presidency clarifies processes regarding selection of new IGP, Ndigbo clamors for post

The Presidency, on Monday, February 1, revealed the processes involved in the selection of a new Inspector-General of Police.

This clarification came as the current Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, retires Monday (today).

According to the Presidency spokesman, Garba Shehu, the appointment of a new one would not be ethnicity or religion-based.

Shehu made this assertion on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily show, whilst stating that the security agencies have a system of producing their leaders.

He said, “If you are going to appoint the service chiefs from every ethnic group in this country, you are going to have more than 250 Inspectors-General of Police, 250 Chiefs of Army Staff, 250 Chiefs of Naval Staff.

“It’s not going to work like that. And they have their own systems of producing leadership.

“If we say we are going to use ethnicity or region as the basis, then we have lost it. This is about law and order, it is not about ethnic identity. This country finished with tribalism in the 1960s, why are we back to it now?

“But if you have two, three positions – look at what happened with the service chiefs just appointed: two from the South, two from the North. If you are talking about religion, two Muslims, two Christians. So what do you want again?”

“The President will rather have an Inspector-General of Police who will make you and me safer, protect lives and property than one who is more pronounced by his tribal marks,” the Presidency statement read.

Meanwhile, former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday, January 31, revealed he knew the late President Musa Yar’Adua was ill before he supported him to emerge the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2007.

He however said he got medical advice that Yar’Adua, who had a kidney transplant, was fit to act as President.

Yar’Adua, who later won the 2007 presidential election, died in office in May 2010.

Obasanjo made this disclosure in a virtual interview with academic and historian, Toyin Falola.

The former President also denied allegations he deliberately put up weak candidates for selfish interests.

LALONG MEETS APC NATIONAL REGISTRATION COMMITTEE FOR PLATEAU, OPTIMISTIC MANY WILL JOIN PARTY.

LALONG MEETS APC NATIONAL REGISTRATION COMMITTEE FOR PLATEAU, OPTIMISTIC MANY WILL JOIN PARTY.

The APC National registration and revalidation Committee for Plateau State has visited Governor Simon Bako Lalong to brief him on the preparations for conducting the exercise in the State.

Chairman of the Committee Hon. Musa Mahmood said the Committee is committed to conducting the exercise within the guidelines issued by the party and will supervise the conduct in all the local governments to ensure that the registration and revalidation is credible and hitch-free.

He commended the Governor and the State Caretaker Working Committee for being proactive and carrying out sensitization among members of the party, a situation that will enhance the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Governor Lalong welcomed the Committee to Plateau and assured that the APC family in the State was ready for the exercise as the members are eager to revalidate their membership and also welcome new members into their fold in order to ensure that the party continues to grow from strength to strength.

Lalong said “this is the time to demonstrate true loyalty and commitment to the party and to increase the fortunes of the APC going forward. There is not going to be manipulation and intimidation in this exercise as those who are found to be pursuing any agenda outside that of the party will not be allowed to succeed. We want more members and this is the time to open our doors and welcome everybody that wants to join the largest party in Nigeria”.

The Governor also assured that more members will join the party because of the performance of the APC led administration which has put the interests of Plateau people above parochial interests. This he explained was why apart from initiating various people oriented projects, his administration chose to complete inherited and abandoned projects rather than abandon them like in previous governments did with their predecessors.

He said just like the example set by the President, he will be going to his polling unit in Ajikamai, Shendam LGA to register, urging all government appointees to mobilise their people to also register and revalidate their membership, saying that anything short will cast doubt about their loyalty to the party.

Pastor E.A Adeboye predicts when he will die

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG has revealed that he will die at the age of 90.

According to Pastor Adeboye, God informed him that he will live up to 90 before death comes his way.

Adeboye made the remark while urging his social media followers and congregation not to celebrate his birthday now.

He said if Jesus Christ does not return soon, he would not die young.

Adeboye, who is currently 78-years-old, spoke while addressing his members at a special service at the church’s headquarters along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The clergyman noted that it would be a lie to think that he would die soon.

He promised to hold an elaborate birthday ceremony at the age of 90 years before his death.

According to Adeboye:

“I am not going to die young. Some people were laughing when they heard me say that don’t worry yourselves celebrating any birthday for me now. Wait till I am 90; then we will celebrate for a whole month.

“They think I am joking. Unless the Lord returns before then, at the age of 90, I am going to celebrate for a whole month.

“At the age of 90, after that celebration, then I can begin to get ready to go. But, that I am going to die soon, that’s a lie.”

A couple of days ago, the RCCG general overseer spoke against the trend, Silhouette Challenge.

Adeboye took to social media to warn Christians that they are “quenching the spirit if they think viewing nude photos and videos on social media is okay”.
