Plateau lady abducted by Boko Haram have been released after 20 months

Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong on Monday said that it is only the grace of God that has kept Mwanret Daspan, a Social Worker who regained her freedom after 20 months in Boko Haram captivity .

Daspan,a 29 year old social worker was working in Maiduguri when she was abducted by Boko Haram fighters in December 2020.

She was received by Governor Lalong at the Rayfield Government House in Jos after she arrived Jos following her rescue by soldiers last week .

The Governor who was represented by the Deputy, Professor Sonni Tyoden said that only God knows the predicament the victim must have gone through in the hands of her captors.

The Governor while welcoming her home on behalf of the Government and people of Plateau State noted that it was indeed a traumatic situation as Mwanret must have experienced excruciating emotional and mental chastisements in the hands of the terrorists.

Lalong pointed out that there are many innocent people who have been in captivity and never returned to the warmth embrace of their families and urged Nigerians to be on their knees for God’s intervention in the security situation in the country.

He stressed that Mwanret’s case is one among several cases in the state and recalled a Christian cleric from the State spent months in the hands of Boko Haram before he was finally released.

Lalong further directed the Commissioner for Health, his Women Affairs counterpart and the Secretary to the Government of the state to liaise with the Daspan family to immediately provide succour to the victim.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and social Development, Rebecca Adar Sambo who handed Mwanret to the State Government shortly after she was received at the Yakubu Gowon Airport said it is not an easy journey to be in captivity for 20 months and thanked God for his mercy as well as security agents who have worked round the clock to ensure she regained freedom.

Mwanret who defied all debilitating experiences that would have beclouded her thought, showered words of gratitude to God, the Nigerian Army, the Plateau State Government and all those who stood in the gap, praying while the period of her travail lasted.

Monday Daspan who spoke on behalf of the family appreciated God for the home coming of their daughter who has spent 20 months in captivity.

He noted that many stories were said of her but they kept faith alive and recalled when she contacted the family and said she was in captivity but was taken to Chad Republic.

He said the family is extremely happy with both the Federal and Plateau State Governments as well as men and Women of goodwill for the warm reception accorded their daughter and prayed that only God would reward them for the love and care

Police dismiss video of protest over unpaid salaries by recruits

The Police Command in Kwara has dismissed a viral video circulating on Facebook regarding a protest by some purported policemen over alleged non-payment of one year salary.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Tuesday Assayomo, said in a statement issued by the command Spokesman; SP Ajayi Okasanmi, on Saturday in Ilorin.

Assayomo added that the police was not owing the salary of any conventional policeman; or the allowance of the special constabulary shown in the video.

”It is important to state that the concept of community policing and recruitment of special constabulary is voluntary in nature; meaning they are not on monthly renumeration like the conventional policemen.

”This much the constabulary were briefed before taking up the job, besides; the job is not full time job,” the police commissioner said.

Furthermore, he explained that the constabulary only receive allowances paid by the state government.

“Due to the complaints of the constabulary regarding non-payment of stipends by the state government; they were invited today for a meeting by the state government on ways by which their complains could be looked into.

”It was surprising that the same set of constabulary after the meeting with agents of the state government could go online with a video claiming that the government was owing them salaries for a year.

‘‘Therefore, members of the public are advised to disregard the viral video…It was designed to embarrass the police and also to draw an undue sympathy from the public,” he added.

Assayomo said the special constabulary are at liberty to honorably disengage from the service if they so wish.

Japata Bitters: NAFDAC reveals lab test kills rats, warns Nigerians against consumption

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has said the content of Japata Bitters in circulation is more harmful than the one submitted for testing and registration.

NAFDAC revealed this in a statement on Friday, advising Nigerians to be watchful of the products they consume.

This is the second time NAFDAC is raising concerns over Japata Bitters, an alcoholic drink produced by Chigodson International Company Ltd., in four months.

“An alcoholic bitters product that is of grave concern is Japata bitters, which was duly registered by NAFDAC but laced with marijuana or cannabis compared to the registered product that had only ethanol. Through intelligence, NAFDAC was able to shut down the company. This product, when tested in the laboratory, caused the death of the mice within five minutes,” NAFDAC wrote on its website.

“The alcoholic content was doubled compared with the registered product. The retained samples, kept at the point of registration, did not cause any injury to the animals.

“The product laced with cannabis was said to cause an altered state of mind and psychological problems to the user. The owner of the company is on the run and the matter has been shared with NDLEA.”

NAFDAC also listed Five Minutes Power, Gamzaki Tradomedical, Barakallahu, Sabon Karfi, and Haonu Laha herbal mixtures as harmful liquor sold to the public.

Haonu Laha Herbal Mixture is registered with NAFDAC but laced with unapproved substances that are injurious to the body.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party (LP) says it is positioned to take over the country at all levels in the 2023 general elections and provide good governance.

The Chairman of the party in Osun, Mr Olamide Awosunle, stated this on Sunday, August 21, while unveiling the party structure in Ile-Ife zone.

The event was held at Afewonro Park, Enuwa, Ile-Ife.

Awosunle said the Labour Party was committed to the growth and development of the country.

He said the good plans of the party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, could only materialised if elected in 2023.

Awosunle decried the security and economic challenges facing the country, saying that Labour Party would reverse the ugly trend if given the opportunity.

“It is highly pathetic that Nigerians in their own country, now in a hostage situation and there appears to be no meaningful and reasonable means of escape.

“In a country blessed with everything needed to be great, citizens are groaning under the yoke of insecurity and economic hardships.

“Nigeria and the world should know that Labour Party is the vehicle and Peter Obi is the driver to the actualisation of a new Nigeria,” he said.

Uuuuhhhhhhhmmmmmm
What kind of love is this….. that you go everywhere with me
Thank you for loving me

You own the keys to my heart, no one else deserves it ( deserves it)
You own my world ,my life
Everything
Only you deserves it (deserves it)
You called me forth from darkness and you called me by your name
You took my guilt and made it yours
I belong to you
I surrender (2x)

No one can love me like you do
No one can love me like you do

I feel your presence all over me
All around me
I feel your presence all over me
All around me

Your light my life, Transformed me Lord
Only you can do this
(Can do this)
You drowned my fears in perfect love
Only you can do this
( can do this)
You took away my guilt and pain
I belong to you
I surrender (2x)

No one has loved me like you do
No one has loved me like you do

I feel your presence all over me
All around me
I feel your presence all over me
All around me

NBC reverses shutdown of broadcast stations

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has postponed the cancellation of the operational licences of 52 broadcast stations that owe varying amounts in licencing fees as a result of the involvement of the Nigerian chapter of the International Press Institute.

As of right now, NBC has given the impacted stations until Tuesday, August 23, at 6 PM to settle their bills.

The National Broadcasting Commission Act, CAP N11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, Section 10(a) was cited by the commission when it revoked the licences on Friday, ordering the stations to go off the air starting this Saturday.

The provision says, “10. A licence may be revoked by the Commission in the following cases, that is (a) where the prescribed fee has not been paid on the due date…”

After the announcement, IPI Nigeria engaged the Ministry of Information and Culture, the NBC and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) to explore an amicable resolution of the dispute.

“We are glad to report that the Director General of NBC, Malam Balarabe Shehu Ilela, has graciously agreed to grant an extension on compassionate ground,” IPI Nigeria President, Musikilu Mojeed, said on Saturday, August 20.

“Even though this is a temporary relief, we are hopeful that all parties will engage in the next few days with a view to arriving at a lasting resolution of the matter. We thank the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Mallam Illela for listening to us and allowing a window for dialogue.

“During our engagement with the Commission, NBC explained that the commission had in the past granted several concessions to broadcast organisations, including writing off substantial parts of their debts and engaging them consistently to fulfill their financial obligations to the regulator.

“We implore the affected broadcasting organisations to take advantage of this window of opportunity by reaching out to NBC.

“Nobody benefits when broadcasting stations are shut down. Members of the public have come to rely on these stations to know what their governments are doing to keep them safe in this challenging security environment. Other governments’ policies are also disseminated to the public through these channels.

“In view of the nation’s economic downturn, we further appeal to the affected broadcast stations and NBC to agree with a workable payment arrangement of the outstanding dues.”

Hold Lalong Responsible for Non-Payment of your Salaries – Ubandoma Tells LG workers

The embattled Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Hon. Joshua Ubandoma Laven, on Saturday, accused Governor Simon Lalong of being responsible for the lack of payment of workers’ salaries in the council.

He also said he has six court judgements against the state government, challenging the “illegal and forceful” termination of his tenure, adding that the governor has deliberately refused to grant him access to the council secretariat to complete his one-year

Laven disclosed this while addressing journalists in Jos, the state capital.

According to him, he has written to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to pay the local government workers, but the government has refused to honour the request.
“My victory in court is a victory for democracy in Nigeria, I can assure you that the precedent I have laid down in Plateau saved the present clueless APC administration in the state from imposing all local government chairmen without an election.

“Governor Simon Lalong is poise to destroy the Tarok nation, he is poise to destroy the hard earned democracy that he is enjoying because there was no vacancy on in Langtang North when the purported election was conducted.”

Laven noted that because he is a law-abiding citizen, he allowed the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to conduct the election which was contested only by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The chairman alleged that there is a plot to assassinate him and the member representing Langtang North/South Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Beni Lar, by unknown persons. He said the matter has been reported to the police.
