Asake wins 2022 Audiomack’s Artiste of the year

Nigerian sensation and raving fuji-amapiano fusion artiste, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake has been named Audiomack’s 2022 Artiste of the year.

The popular streaming platform said Asake earned the credit as a result of his wholesome preamble to the pack of hit songs delivered in 2022 and his excellent musical deliveries in featured tracks.

A signee to legendary Nigerian rapper Olamide’s YBNL label in January, released the celebratory “Omo Ope,” featuring Olamide himself, which introduced Asake’s spirited persona to Nigerian listeners.

His debut EP Ololade Asake arrived in February, and with it; continued Asake’s ascent through the suggestive “Sungba.”

In a press release uploaded on the website; of the streaming platform on Thursday, December 15, 2022, it read, “In September, Asake released his debut album, Mr. Money With The Vibe, a 30-minute bombardment of party-starters which amassed over 330 million streams on Audiomack, making its debut at No. 66 on the Billboard 200.

“Mr. Money With The Vibe set the record as the highest-charting debut album from a Nigerian artist ever.

“The fuji-amapiano fusion attracted Burna Boy to hop on a remix in March, Re-Upped in April by Audiomack. The cosign from Burna Boy elevated Asake to another plane, and stamped him as Nigeria’s first big breakout of 2022. It was a lofty achievement at the time, but more was to come.

“Asake’s tone centres on using his journey as a case study for overcoming the struggles of young Nigerians. Prior to this year’s breakthrough, he spent many years toiling in the entertainment space.

“By the time he broke into the scene, it seemed like streaming and; local radio charts were; waiting for him to take his place at the top, which his songs did,” Audiomack wrote.

Asake’s achievements quickly became superfluous, with crooners such as “PBUY,” “Bandana” with Fireboy DML, and then a deal with independent juggernaut EMPIRE, to sing “Terminator.”

“This year, Asake redefined what it means to be a breakout artist. Amidst an explosion of amapiano, and West African music’s continued global rise.

“Asake has conquered cross-cultural fusion like no one else, to the point of putting South African music heavyweights on notice,” the statement added.

CBN warns against abuse of Naira

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN warned in Abuja on Tuesday that those abusing the naira were; liable to go to jail.

It warned that the law banning the “spraying’’ and the stepping on the naira, especially at social gatherings is still in force and offenders are liable to six months imprisonment or a fine of N50,000.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 21(3) of the CBN Act 2007 provides that mishandling of the naira is a punishable offence.

Principal Manager, Currency Operations Department at the CBN, Ms. Ngozi Etim, gave the warning when she spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

She said the CBN was working with the police, the FIRS, the EFCC, and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit to curb the abuse.

She condemned the “spraying’’ of money in public, adding that the envelope remained the best and acceptable means of extending goodwill at events.

“Money should not be squeezed but be put in envelopes. Oil should not be allowed to touch money; keep it neat like you keep your clothes.

“You do not dirty your clothes and you do not keep your clothes on the ground, so, there is a need to keep our naira well,’’ she said.

She added that the CBN Act empowered it to arrest those who abused the naira.

Etim stressed that the naira remains the pride of the nation and must be kept clean at all times.

In his remarks, CBN’s Director, Corporate Communication, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, urged Nigerians to always treat the naira with care.

Nwanisobi condemned the idea of hurling wads of naira notes in the air and stamping on the currency at social functions.

“There have also been cases where people mishandle the naira, deface it, or hawk it at parties.

“Contrary to the practice of these unpatriotic persons, it is neither cultural nor moral for people to disrespect the currency, which citizens trade-in,’’ he stressed.

NAN reports that there have been videos of famous Nigerians, including politicians, subjecting the naira to abuse.

Naira notes have also; become items of trade at garages and motor parks in different parts of the country, especially during festive periods.

The CBN has, however, declared that anybody caught abusing the naira would be; punished.

Goodluck Jonathan reveals why he is worried over APC’s Muslim/Muslim ticket

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said he will never contest for the Presidency of the country again.

He said he would be diminishing himself if he should decide to begin to lobby people and campaign for election again.

Jonathan said this in an interview published in a book, ‘My Time As Chaplain In Aso Rock,” presented to the public on Tuesday.

The book written by Nathaniel Bivan contains the accounts of the Chaplain of the Aso Rock Villa Chapel during the Jonathan administration, Obioma Onwuzurumba.

“If you wake up tomorrow and see that I am President again, that means there may have been circumstances beyond my control. But not to go and pick one form and go and start lobbying people and running for campaigns; I can’t do that again. If I do that, I will diminish myself,” the former President said.

Jonathan said he enjoyed the drama that characterized the rumor earlier in the year that he had purchased a nomination form of the All Progressives Congress to enable him to contest for the party’s presidential ticket.

Ahead of the June 2022 APC presidential primary, a group, Nomadic Pastoralists, and Almajirai Community, led by Ibrahim Abdullahi, purchased the N100m nomination and expression of interest forms in Jonathan’s name.

Speaking on the controversy that trailed the group’s decision, Jonathan said, “I was enjoying the drama. At least they are not insulting me. After all, I was pursued out of the office that I was not good enough. So, if now, Nigerians are saying, ‘Oh, this man should come,’ that means they are cleaning me up. So, let me enjoy the drama.

“I was not disturbed. I know I cannot go and start struggling to be President again. It wasn’t only Nigerians who were asking me such questions, even most of the top ambassadors -the American ambassador, the UK High Commissioner, France, and all of them. They came to ask me whether I would contest. I don’t think I would contest any election.

“If you wake up tomorrow and see that I’m President again, that means there may have been circumstances beyond my control. But not to go and pick one form and go and start lobbying people and running for campaigns, be it PDP power or APC broom, and moving across Nigeria. I can’t do that again; if I do that, I will diminish myself.”

He added that the only roles acceptable to him now involve stabilizing democracy in troubled African states.

He added, “Assuming there’s some confusion, and sometimes things like that happen in countries. So, they tell me to come and play a role in stabilizing things; a stable democracy where one leader hands over to another is what we all want.

“Let us go through that process and not interrupt the democratic processes. We pray such things should not happen. Otherwise, to go and say I’m contesting on the platform of any party at all. No!”

Jonathan argued that the APC’s same-faith ticket would eventually lead to a lapse in the representation of Nigeria’s religious diversity.

He said, “When I took over as the vice president, the tradition then was that if the President were a Christian, the Vice would be a Muslim and vice versa. We have religious festivals in Nigeria and, of course, National Day, where there will be Jummah prayers and Christian prayers.

“Nigerians are religious people, this is why I get worried about the issues of Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket. Yes, Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian can run the state. But I always ask, ‘who will represent this other bloc whenever we come to the national days that we celebrate?”
