MISS NAIJA 2023 officially unveiled in Jos with N2 Million Cash Up for Grab

Excitement is building as the grand stage is set for the highly anticipated MISS NAIJA Beauty and Style Pageant 2023 in the vibrant city of Jos. This event is poised to cast a brilliant spotlight on Nigerian women, not only as beacons of hope for African women but also as powerful contributors to the global community. With the captivating theme “Breaking The Glass Ceiling: Peaceful Entrepreneurship,” this year’s edition is a resounding call for gender equality, women’s rights, and empowerment.

The heart of the competition beats for the coveted title of the 2023 Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant, a recognition that comes with more than just a crown. The winner will grasp a remarkable opportunity – a N2,000,000 cash prize to turn her business idea into reality. This fantastic reward is complemented by a one-year position at DanHausawa Media Nigeria, complete with a car and personal driver. Alongside these, the victor will bask in the glory of other splendid prizes and endorsements from esteemed partners.

The Miss Nigeria organizers stand firmly by their belief that this pageant mirrors the resilience and progress of Nigerian women. Through years of unwavering determination, these women have battled for their fundamental rights and citizenship. While celebrating the milestones achieved, the event’s focus remains on the ongoing pursuit of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The driving force behind MISS NAIJA, Mr. Samila Adoyi Ogwuche, known as DanHausawa, emphasizes the core mission of the event – to offer a nurturing platform where young women can blossom without inhibitions. In his own words, “Our goal is to provide a space where young women can showcase their talents, intellect, and leadership prowess while breaking down barriers and embracing their individuality.”

Beyond the glimmer and glitz, the Miss Nigeria pageant carries a profound purpose: to crown a queen whose influence goes beyond fashion and entertainment. Ambassador Melvin Ijeh, the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee and a Peace Advocate, underlines the pageant’s commitment to nurturing a beauty queen capable of addressing peace and development challenges. The platform takes a strong stance in equipping young participants with the tools to drive positive change, including the deradicalization of youth in troubled areas.

Ambassador Melvin Ijeh underscores the significance of promoting projects that foster development and advocate for peace, especially in Plateau State and other regions of Northern Nigeria.

Mr. Ejeh, the head of the Local Organizing Committee, stressed that the reputation of beauty pageants in Nigeria has suffered, prompting the introduction of a fresh approach aimed at drawing interest from global investors, boosting tourism, fostering community development, and garnering international government attention.

Miss Gold “Gloria” Semlek, the CEO of Walk With Gold Modeling Agency, has made public her intention to reshape perceptions surrounding models and pageantry with the upcoming Miss Naija 2023 event. This occasion will prioritize not solely external beauty, but also encompass intellect and proficiency.

Mark your calendars for October 1, 2023, as the MISS NAIJA Beauty Pageant unfolds in Jos Plateau State. Coinciding with Nigeria’s Independence Day, this grand event will bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds, commemorating not just the nation’s survival but also the remarkable journey and unwavering spirit of the Nigerian girl child.

Young women aspiring to partake in this extraordinary journey are invited to seize their chance by obtaining free entry forms and meeting the outlined criteria. Additionally, contestants must maintain an active Naija Super Girl (NSG) account, a platform to showcase their individual projects.

Reps Panel Wants Students Loan Funding Increased To 3%

The ad-hoc committee on the Students Loan Fund and Access to Higher Education within the House of Representatives has presented a recommendation to revise the Students’ Loan Act, with the aim of expanding the financial support accessible to Nigerians aspiring to pursue higher education. Tersee Ugboh, the committee’s chairman, conveyed this proposition during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Under the Access to Higher Education Act of 2023, also known as the Students’ Loan Act, a provision is made for an Education Loan Fund to assist Nigerians in financing their advanced education. This is structured as a payment in installments, which commences two years after the completion of their participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. According to the Act’s stipulations, the sources of funding are derived from various channels. These include one percent of all profits generated by the federal government from oil and other minerals, an additional one percent from taxes, levies, and duties collected by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), as well as contributions from education bonds and education endowment fund schemes.

Ugboh presented a proposal during the meeting to amend the Act, suggesting that the funding be increased from the original one percent of the total annual revenue generated by the federal government to three percent. He stated, “It has become apparent to us that allocating only 1% of the federal government’s revenue, as specified in the current act, will not be sufficient to cover the annual requirements for students’ loans. This insufficiency stems from the significant number of students gaining admission every year and those already in schools, who may seek loans to cover additional years of their education.” He proceeded, “I am of the opinion that there is a compelling need to augment the funding from 1% to 3%.”

Ugboh assured that the legislators were fully committed to facilitating effective implementation of the scheme. However, both Ugbor and other committee members expressed dissatisfaction with the sluggish progress of the technical committee entrusted with executing the student loan program. Kofo Alada, the Director of Legal Services at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), noted that an additional budget allocation was necessary to ensure the availability of funds for the program’s commencement.”
