PLASIEC Chairman, Hon. Plangji Cishak Felicitates with All Muslims on Eid-ul-Adha Celebration

Today, as we join our Muslim brothers and sisters in the joyous celebration of Eid Mubarak, also known as Eid al-Adha, we are reminded of the profound faith and unwavering obedience to God exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim. This day marks a pivotal moment in Islamic tradition, one that underscores the virtues of sacrifice and devotion.

Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his beloved son in obedience to God’s command is a story that transcends religious boundaries. It is a testament to the strength of faith and the spirit of selflessness. Just as God ultimately provided a ram to sacrifice in place of his son, this narrative teaches us about divine mercy and the rewards of true devotion.

As we reflect on this significant event, it is essential for all Muslims, and indeed all of us, to embrace the virtues that Eid-el-Kabir embodies:

  1. Faith: The unwavering belief in God’s wisdom and plans, even when they challenge our understanding and expectations. Faith is a cornerstone that supports us through life’s trials and tribulations.
  2. Sacrifice: The willingness to give up something valuable for a greater good. This act of giving up is not just about material possessions but extends to time, comfort, and personal ambitions for the benefit of others and for the sake of God.
  3. Obedience to God: Following divine guidance and commands, demonstrating our trust in God’s omniscient plan for us. This obedience is a form of humility, recognizing that our understanding is limited compared to the infinite wisdom of the Creator.

In celebrating Eid-el-Kabir, we also reaffirm our commitment to entrenching credibility, justice, transparency in our electoral system. The virtues of faith, sacrifice, and obedience to God are not only personal spiritual goals but are also social imperatives that can strengthen the fabric of our society. When we embody these principles, we contribute to a more harmonious and cohesive nation.

As we mark this holy day, I extend my heartfelt prayers for prosperity and progress to all. May this celebration of Eid-el-Kabir bring blessings to every household and inspire us all to work towards a better, more united nation. Let us seize this opportunity to reflect on our individual and collective responsibilities to each other, promoting a culture of empathy, generosity, and mutual respect.

In the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir, let us all strive to uphold the values of faith, sacrifice, and obedience. These principles are not only integral to our spiritual lives but are also essential for building a peaceful and progressive society. As we celebrate with joy and gratitude, let us also remember those in need and extend our hands in support and solidarity.

Happy Eid-el-Kabir to all. May this day be filled with joy, peace, blessings, and may our sacrifices be accepted

Hon. Plangji Cishak
Chairman, PLASIEC

ASTC: Plateau State’s Mechanized Farming Initiative to Aid Conflict-Affected Communities

In a bold and strategic move, the Plateau State government has launched an extensive farming intervention aimed at revitalizing agricultural activities in conflict-affected areas. Facilitated through the Agricultural Service and Training Center and Marketing Limited (ASTC) under the Ministry of Agriculture, this initiative seeks to cultivate 6,000 hectares of farmland across the state’s three senatorial districts.

Governor Barr Caleb Mutfwang inaugurated this mechanized farming initiative to address the severe disruptions caused by recent conflicts, which have led to farm destruction, instilled fear among farmers, exacerbated food shortages, and driven up prices of farm produce.

During the flag-off event in Mangu Local Government, Hon. Samson Ishaku Bugama, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, highlighted the readiness of both ASTC’s staff and equipment. “Today marks the beginning of a comprehensive engagement in the field,” he stated. “The strategy is to provide mechanization services to displaced communities and help them return to their livelihoods.”

The initiative includes the provision of seeds to ensure bumper harvests, focusing primarily on displaced communities but potentially extending to other areas as resources allow. “Our major goal is to resettle displaced communities back into their farming activities,” Bugama added.

To ensure the safety of farmlands, the initiative will utilize agro-rangers and local self-help groups for early warning signals. Bugama assured that the government would implement a monitoring system, including the use of drones, to protect the investment and prevent incursions into the farms.

Addressing the high prices of food items, Bugama noted that the initiative would help increase food production in the state’s major food-producing belts. “Governor Mutfwang is deeply concerned about the hunger problem, and this intervention is a deliberate effort to boost food production and reduce prices,” he explained. “For the communities, these services and seeds are provided free of charge.”

Dr. Susan Bentu, the Managing Director and CEO of ASTC, expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for approving the mechanized cultivation intervention. She detailed that the four-week cultivation would cover areas in the Northern, Central, and Southern Zones of Plateau State, focusing on maize, potatoes, and rice, depending on the zone.

Bentu highlighted ASTC’s commitment to supporting farmers across Plateau State. “ASTC is a household name not just in Plateau State but in Nigeria. We are dedicated to assisting farmers, whether in rain-fed or dry seasons,” she said. “This intervention program is entirely free for the communities, with the state government covering all costs.”

The cultivation, which will last for about four weeks, will see ASTC teams operating in various regions of Plateau State, ensuring the 6,000-hectare target is met. Bentu assured that ASTC’s day-to-day functions would continue alongside this special assignment. “Our vision is to raise self-sufficient farmers, financially stable and empowered, contributing to the state’s food security and economic stability,” she affirmed.

This large-scale intervention is poised to significantly impact the agricultural landscape in Plateau State, providing much-needed relief to conflict-affected communities and bolstering food production for the entire region.

“We are lucky to have found a man who has been in the electoral sector all his life, who has also held sway with integrity. And he is not too old, he is not too young.”

Governor Mutfwang emphasized his belief in the effectiveness of local government systems and the importance of bringing governance closer to the people. He assured the audience of his administration’s commitment to maintaining transparency and fairness in the electoral process:

“Our desire is to play the global space, even though we are operating locally. So, let me congratulate you and wish you a very successful tenure. And hope that your names will be written in gold.”

5. Hon. Waziri Kwande – Member

6. Hon. Audu Dorzhi – Member

7. Dr. Longman Godfrey Pensiwan – Member

8. Barr. Pam Davou – Secretary

Speaking on behalf of the newly appointed members, Hon. Plangji Daniel Chishak expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them and assured Governor Mutfwang and the people of Plateau State of their commitment to transparency and due process:

“Your Excellency, I want to assure you that by the grace of God, we will follow due processes. We will do a readiness check to see that any virtue in the local government election will be conducted within the period as specified by the law.”

He further emphasized the importance of engaging all stakeholders and maintaining openness in their operations:

“People will see transparency, we will engage all stakeholders, we will be open, will not operate in secrecy, will interface with other international organizations.”

Hon. Chishak also assured that the new commission would uphold global standards and ensure that past electoral malpractices would not be repeated:

“That shameful act, by the grace of God, will not repeat itself again. Democracy has come to stay, and by the grace of God, processes must be followed.”
