The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited is considering the sale of Nigeria’s refineries, the group chief executive officer (CEO) of the company, Bayo Ojulari has said.
Ojulari, in an interview with Bloomberg, said revamping state-owned refineries is becoming more complicated than expected.
Recall that the NNPCL had in November 2024, announced that the Port Harcourt refinery had commenced the processing of crude oil.
However, the refinery abruptly shut down operations in May 2025 for maintenance and has since remained shut.
The Warri and Kaduna refineries are, however, still undergoing rehabilitation.
However, Ojulari said there is an ongoing review of the refineries to fashion out the company’s next line of action with regard to its operations.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 9th OPEC international seminar in Vienna, Austria, the NBPCL boss said Nigeria has made a huge investment in the refineries in the last years.
“Some of those technologies have not worked as we expected so far. But also, as you know, when you’re refining a very old refinery that has been abandoned for some time, what we’re finding is that it’s becoming a little bit more complicated.
“So we’re reviewing all our refinery strategies now. We hope before the end of the year, we’ll be able to conclude that review. That review may lead to us doing things slightly differently.”
“But what we’re saying is that sale is not out of the question. All the options are on the table, to be frank, but that decision will be based on the outcome of the reviews we’re doing now,” Ojulari said.
According to him, the operating cost of oil production in Nigeria has also been a challenge.
“For the cost of crude production, there’s a capital cost and there are the operating costs. The operating cost right now in Nigeria is hovering over $20 per barrel, which is quite high.
“Part of that is because of the investment we’ve had to make in terms of security of our pipelines, which as you know, today we have 100 per cent availability of our pipelines. That came out of a significant investment.
“So we believe with time, with stability, that cost will start going down, but for now it’s somewhere between $25 and $30 a barrel,” he noted.
With great pride and heartfelt joy, we extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Chukwu O. O. Chukwu, the esteemed Provost and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal College of Veterinary and Medical Laboratory Technology (FCVMLT), Vom, on his resounding victory as Chairman of the National Committee of Heads of Colleges of Agriculture and Related Disciplines (NACHCARD).
This prestigious election, which took place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) headquarters in Abuja, saw a gathering of formidable leaders from across Nigeria’s agricultural education landscape. Amidst a competitive but transparent and peaceful electoral process, Dr. Chukwu emerged victorious, a clear testament to his widely respected leadership, vision, and commitment to advancing the agricultural and One-Health education sectors in Nigeria. Dr. Chukwu’s emergence is not just a personal achievement but a proud moment for FCVMLT, Vom, and indeed the entire agricultural and health education community. His track record of innovation, integrity, and transformational leadership has once again been recognized by his peers nationwide.
For the benefit of the wider audience, it is essential to understand the critical role of NACHCARD in Nigeria’s agricultural and educational ecosystem. The National Committee of Heads of Colleges of Agriculture and Related Disciplines (NACHCARD) is a strategic body representing the interests of all Federal and State Colleges offering agriculture and related disciplines in Nigeria. NACHCARD plays a pivotal role in: Advocating for policy reforms that support sustainable agricultural development and education; Advising government and relevant stakeholders on strategies to strengthen Nigeria’s food security and agricultural productivity; Promoting synergy among agricultural institutions to align with national goals, such as economic diversification and the revitalization of the livestock and crop production sectors; and Championing curriculum innovation, research, and training that equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary for modern agriculture, veterinary, medical laboratory technology, and related fields.
Dr. Chukwu’s election to lead this noble body at such a time underscores his national relevance and the growing recognition of FCVMLT, Vom, as a hub of excellence and leadership in One-Health and agricultural technology training. As he assumes this higher national responsibility, we are confident that his tenure will usher in new levels of collaboration, institutional development, and government engagement to place agriculture at the heart of Nigeria’s development agenda.
Once again, congratulations, Dr. Chukwu O. O. Chukwu, on this well-deserved honor. We are proud of your achievement and pray for God’s continued wisdom, strength, and grace as you serve the nation in this new capacity.
Born and raised in the musically vibrant city of Jos, Nigeria, to the Christian family of Goyomma Lamba Sati, Victor Sati Goyomma — professionally known as Rhemedy Boy — is one of Nigeria’s most promising Afrobeats artists and songwriters. Coming from the same city that birthed musical giants like 2Baba and M.I abaga , Rhemedy Boy was immersed in a soundscape that mixed traditional Nigerian rhythms with global influences. That environment shaped his unique sound, which fuses Afrobeats, Highlife, R&B, and subtle touches of reggae.
How the Journey Started
Before music found him, Rhemedy Boy worked as a shoemaker. His boss, a DJ, had a unique tradition in the workshop — if you arrived late, you had to freestyle before starting your work. The workshop became a lively creative space, filled with young boys from the neighborhood and music constantly playing in the background.
One Monday morning changed everything. After attending a party the night before and taking alcohol for the first time, he woke up late and rushed to work. His elder brother — who didn’t wake him up on purpose — was waiting to witness his freestyle moment. That freestyle, unplanned and raw, blew everyone away. Encouraged by the response and with a beat gifted by his brother, Rhemedy Boy recorded his very first song.
However, with no financial support and still just a young boy, he had to pause his musical journey for three years. But the fire never left him.
The Comeback: 2023 and Beyond
In 2023, Rhemedy Boy made a powerful return with the release of his debut extended play (EP) titled Prologue. The four-track project featured standout songs: Rare, Omo Ologo, Sativa, and Kilimanjaro. Prologue served as both an introduction and a statement — blending soulful storytelling, vibrant energy, and a bold declaration of his artistic identity.
Building on the EP’s success, he shot his first official music video in 2024, bringing his vision to the screen and marking a new chapter in his creative journey.
Musical Style & Influence
Rhemedy Boy’s music is a reflection of his roots and reality — characterized by emotional melodies, catchy rhythms, and thoughtful lyrics that speak to love, struggle, identity, and hope. He effortlessly blends Pidgin, Hausa, and Yoruba in his music, creating songs that resonate across cultures and borders.
Songwriting Prowess
Celebrated for his lyrical depth and versatility, Rhemedy Boy has written songs for both emerging and established artists in Nigeria. His lyrics often capture the spirit of everyday life, wrapped in catchy hooks and danceable beats . With a pen that can shift from streetwise to soulful, he’s quickly becoming a trusted voice and collaborator in the music scene.

In a bold step toward fostering peace and enhancing agricultural productivity, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang , has commissioned an additional 150 Agro-Rangers to provide dedicated security for farmers and their produce across the state. The initiative is a strategic intervention aimed at ensuring food security and ultimately achieving food sovereignty in Nigeria.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang made this known during the Passing-Out Parade (POP) of the Agro-Rangers trainees at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Command and Staff College, Naton-Fursa, Jos East Local Government Area.
Reiterating his administration’s unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and inclusive development, the Governor stated: “Nigerian farms are national assets that must be protected. Also, the journey of farmers to and from the farms must be safe and secured if we are to guarantee food security for our nation.”
Governor Mutfwang thanked the Almighty God for the occasion and acknowledged the significance of the event in the ongoing efforts to strengthen security and peace across Plateau State. He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and to the nation’s security chiefs for their collaborative efforts in addressing the security challenges confronting the state.
He specifically commended the NSCDC for its innovative Agro-Rangers initiative, describing it as a laudable strategy that complements the efforts of conventional security agencies in safeguarding rural communities and farmlands.
“While our security forces continue to uphold the sovereignty and internal stability of the country, the Agro-Rangers initiative by the NSCDC is a timely and commendable response to the unique security needs of our agrarian communities,” the Governor noted.
He emphasized that rural insecurity undermines national stability and economic growth, warning that a hungry population is vulnerable to manipulation. He stressed the importance of ensuring farmers can cultivate and harvest their crops without fear or threat.
“Our farms are critical national assets that must not only be protected but also cultivated to attain food security and food sovereignty. These Agro-Rangers have been trained to ensure that farmers can return home safely and that the fruits of their labour are not destroyed,” he added.
Governor Mutfwang further revealed that security agencies, including the Agro-Rangers, recently facilitated the peaceful evacuation of thousands of stranded cattle from Bokkos Local Government Area without incident, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining peace through professionalism and dialogue.
Addressing the graduating Agro-Rangers, the Governor charged them to discharge their duties with integrity, fairness, and patriotism.
“What you are called to do is beyond a job, it is a noble sacrifice for your fellow citizens. Uphold justice, fairness, and remain committed to the mission of safeguarding our food systems and communities,” he said.
Earlier, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, noted that this is the second batch of Agro-Rangers deployed in Plateau State. He affirmed the Corps’ determination to support the State Government in tackling security challenges, especially in farming communities.
“We are proud to be partners in the journey toward sustainable peace and food security. The Agro-Rangers are specially trained to provide security cover for farmers, and we are committed to expanding their operations across the country,” he stated.
Dr. Audi had earlier paid a courtesy visit to Governor Mutfwang at his residence, during which they held productive discussions on strategies to further address insecurity in the state.
The Joint Admissions Matriculation Board on Tuesday announced cut-off points for admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education for the 2024 academic year.
The decision was reached during the board’s annual policy meeting on admissions, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
In a statement on its official X page, JAMB said 150 has been set as the cut-off point for university admission, 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education and 140 for colleges of nursing.
“The minimum admissible scores for admissions for the next academic session have been fixed at 150 for universities, 100 for polytechnics, 100 for colleges of education and 140 for colleges of nursing sciences,” the statement read.
It added that the cut-off points were decided by the “stakeholders (Heads of tertiary institutions).”
Under the new guideline, no university in the country is allowed to admit candidates who scored below 150 in this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Despite this general benchmark, some universities, such as the University of Lagos, Pan-Atlantic University, and the University of Ibadan, have opted to raise their own cut-off marks to 200.
A few recently established private universities proposed accepting candidates with scores as low as 120, though JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, advised setting a more competitive minimum of 160.
Further updates on the policy decisions are expected soon.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Plateau State, Hon. Adams Bulus, has urged bloggers and digital media practitioners to uphold responsible and fact-based reporting in their work. He made this call during a courtesy visit by the Plateau Bloggers and Online Media Association (PLABOMA) to his office in Jos, stressing the crucial role of verified information in sustaining peace and promoting good governance.
Speaking on behalf of PLABOMA, Secretary Ibrahim Kallamu expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for the warm reception and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to credible and ethical digital journalism. He noted that PLABOMA, established in 2020 and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, is made up of over 30 active members who manage high-engagement platforms with audiences ranging from 30,000 to over 120,000 followers.
Kallamu explained that PLABOMA’s mission includes promoting responsible journalism, countering misinformation, and supporting civic education through grassroots digital engagement. “We are not just content creators — we are storytellers and bridges between the people and policymakers,” he said.
In his remarks, Hon. Adams Bulus welcomed the delegation and acknowledged the growing influence of social media in shaping public opinion. However, he expressed concerns about the dangers of misinformation. “The social media space is very delicate,” he said. “Even a farmer with an Android phone can access the internet, and inaccurate information can easily cause chaos. It is important that facts are verified before being published.”
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of accuracy, particularly with government data such as budgetary figures and development projects. He noted that misrepresenting government information not only misleads the public but can also harm progress. He urged PLABOMA members to be partners in progress by promoting transparency and accountability.
Hon. Bulus reaffirmed the Ministry’s openness to collaboration, especially as it begins citizen engagements across 43 zones in the state as part of its ongoing budget preparation process. “You are our partners. We’ll continue to work with you to ensure that Plateau citizens get the right information at the right time,” he concluded.
The visit signals a renewed partnership between the Plateau State Government and digital media practitioners, with both parties committing to shared goals of transparency, public enlightenment, and sustainable development.

Three commercial banks in Nigeria have announced the re-activation of international transactions on their naira cards.
The development comes after the service was halted for about three years when Nigerian financial institutions suspended transactions on naira debit cards.
Between July 2022 and January 2023, several banks temporarily suspended international transactions on ATM channels.
In July, Standard Chartered Bank suspended international transactions on its naira visa debit card.
First Bank of Nigeria (FBN), on September 21, 2022, suspended international transactions on its naira Mastercard.
Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) also stopped global payments on its naira Mastercard, with Zenith Bank joining the fray on January 9, 2023.
Flutterwave, Eversend, and other financial technology platforms also made similar moves, suspending their virtual card services for international transactions.
In separate announcements to customers seen by The Nation, United Bank of Africa (UBA), Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc and Wema Bank said the service has re-commenced on their naira cards.
In a recent notice to customers, the UBA said the resumption aligns with its continued commitment to providing clients with seamless and enhanced banking experiences.
“In line with our continued commitment to providing you with seamless and enhanced banking experiences, we are pleased to inform you that all UBA Premium Naira Cards, including Gold, Platinum, and World variants are now enabled for international transactions,” the statement reads.
“This means you can now use your Premium Naira Card for everyday payments, online shopping, POS, and ATM transactions across the world, with more ease and flexibility.
“If you haven’t used your card recently, now’s a great time to rediscover the convenience and prestige that comes with being a UBA premium cardholder.”
Also announcing the development in a recent statement, Wema Bank said customers can now “pay in dollars” with their naira cards.
“Your Wema Naira Mastercard just went global! Now you can pay in dollars on all your favourite international platforms; Amazon, eBay, AliExpress? Netflix, Spotify, YouTube,” the bank said.
Confirming the update, Personal Assistant to the former President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, tweeted: “So, finally, Nigerian banks have now resumed international transactions on Naira cards. I received an email from @GTBank this afternoon confirming the development, stating that customers now have a quarterly limit of $4,000 on their Naira cards for international payments.”
In a stirring display of empathy and national unity, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N1 billion to assist vulnerable victims of violent attacks across Plateau State. The announcement was made during a town hall meeting held at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
The intervention, carried out through her Renewed Hope Initiative, is funded entirely through private donations, with no recourse to public funds. Senator Tinubu said the gesture was motivated by the plight of conflict-affected rural communities, stressing that the nation must turn a new page from grief to healing and hope.
“This visit is deeply emotional for me,” the First Lady said, addressing a cross-section of stakeholders including traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, and youth. “Each time I hear of killings or disasters, my heart bleeds. Let this be the last time I visit Plateau under such painful circumstances. The next time I come, I want to rejoice with you and celebrate peace, progress, and prosperity.”
She called for an end to years of violent conflict in the state and emphasized the importance of unity, legacy, and collective responsibility. “As women, we nurture, not destroy. But we are tired,” she declared. “We appeal to the men—protect us. Let our farmers return to their fields. Let our children move freely across this country without fear.”
Senator Tinubu also urged religious and traditional leaders to set aside political and ethnic differences, and work collaboratively to restore the peace for which Plateau was once known. She commended Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for his commitment to restoring harmony in the region, offering prayers for divine guidance in his leadership journey.
In response, Governor Mutfwang expressed heartfelt gratitude to the First Lady for what he described as “a profound act of national compassion.”
“Your Excellency, to me, you are more than the First Lady; you are a mother with a deep sense of purpose, committed to alleviating the suffering of Nigerians,” the Governor said. He praised the Renewed Hope Initiative for its impact nationwide and recalled Senator Tinubu’s earlier visit where she supported internally displaced persons in the state.
“We are determined to put an end to this crisis. Working with our religious and traditional leaders, and by God’s grace, we will restore peace to Plateau,” he affirmed.
The wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, was also present at the event. She donated 1,800 bags of 50kg rice to be distributed to vulnerable persons, especially people living with disabilities, through the Plateau State office of the Renewed Hope Initiative, led by Her Excellency Barr. Helen Mutfwang.
The visit by the First Lady marks a renewed call for peace, unity, and compassion—principles she hopes will guide the state and nation toward a brighter, violence-free future.
