Jerican: The North’s Afrobeats Force Fusing Culture, Ready for Global Domination

The Jos-bred, Kaduna-rooted, and Abuja-active artist — who records under the name Jerican — has quietly been building a catalogue of sharp, genre-blending tracks. But with his recent, infectious hit, “Ya Shiga” (a Hausa–English fusion cut), Jerican has crossed a threshold: what was once regional is now unmistakably national — and quietly, internationally visible too.

Jerican’s journey is a testament to the fact that great music knows no geographical boundaries. His sound, deeply rooted in the rich cultural landscape of Northern Nigeria while seamlessly blending with contemporary Afrobeats rhythms, offers a refreshing and authentic perspective. “Ya Shiga,” which literally translates to “It has entered” or “It is in,” is more than just a song — it’s an anthem of arrival and takeover, a promise the artist is actively fulfilling.

The track’s unique blend of the indigenous Hausa language with smooth English lines provides a captivating listening experience that connects instantly with a diverse audience across the country. This cultural fusion is Jerican’s signature, making him a distinct and unforgettable voice in the saturated Afrobeats market.

The Northern Vibe Goes Global
“Ya Shiga” is a compact two-minute heater that stitches together Afrobeat energy, local Hausa phrasing, and a radio-friendly hook. Released in 2025 and distributed across major streaming platforms — Apple Music, Spotify, Anghami, and Audiomack — the song has the infrastructure to reach audiences well beyond Abuja, Jos, and Kaduna.
On visual platforms, the traction is undeniable: the official “Ya Shiga” video has racked up six-figure views on YouTube since release — a sign that listeners are not only streaming but also watching, sharing, and celebrating the song across digital spaces. Those view counts are the clearest barometer of momentum in today’s music ecosystem.

A Nationwide Buzz and Industry Attention
The impact of “Ya Shiga” has been nothing short of phenomenal. Its irresistible beat and catchy lyrics have made it a staple on major radio and television stations across Nigeria, solidifying its status as a certified hit.

Crucially, the track has caught the attention of some of the industry’s most influential figures — a clear reflection of its quality and of Jerican’s undeniable talent:

  • Tunde Ednut, one of Nigeria’s foremost social media influencers and tastemakers, has championed the track, leveraging his massive platform to push it into the national spotlight.
  • Don Jazzy, the veteran music executive and Mavin Records boss, recognizing genuine talent, is reportedly among those impressed by Jerican’s work.

Such co-signs from industry heavyweights signal that Jerican is not just a fleeting sensation, but a sustainable act with a promising future.

The “Ya Shiga” Open Verse Challenge: Fueling Creativity
In a brilliant move to amplify the song’s reach and foster artistic community, Jerican launched an Open Verse Challenge, inviting artists to “jump on the Ya Shiga beat.” The challenge encourages diverse talents to lend their voices and creative interpretations to the already trending sound.

“The best verse gets gift packages,” the artist announced — turning a simple release into an exciting, industry-wide competition.

This initiative underscores Jerican’s commitment to collaboration and his confidence in the song’s infectious quality — a move that’s bound to generate buzz, unearth new talent, and solidify “Ya Shiga” as a cultural moment in Nigeria’s music scene.

Police Confirm Killing Of Chief Imam In Kwara, Arrests Four

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the killing of the Chief Imam of Sokunkpan village in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the incident occurred on November 4, 2025, around 9:30 p.m.

According to the statement, the crisis erupted after the death of a 25-year-old man, Ibrahim Gana, who had been on admission at a hospital in the area.

Following his demise, his brothers Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana allegedly accused the village’s Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, of being responsible for his death.

“In an act of mob violence, the suspects mobilised several other individuals and attacked the Chief Imam with offensive weapons, leading to his death,” the statement partly read.

Ejire-Adeyemi said police operatives responded swiftly, leading to the arrest of four suspects, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend others involved in the attack.

“Four suspects have been arrested, and the command has commenced a full investigation into the incident. We assure the public that justice will be served,” she added.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, condemned the act of jungle justice and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, describing such behaviour as “criminal and punishable under Nigerian law.”

He said, “No one has the right to take another person’s life under any guise. Resorting to mob action only creates more tragedy and chaos.

“The command will not tolerate acts of lawlessness. Anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.”

The police boss also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities by providing useful information that could aid the investigation.

“We appeal to members of the public to report any suspicious activity or individuals to the nearest police station or through the command’s designated emergency channels,” he added.

Ojo assured residents of Kwara State that the police remain committed to ensuring peace, safety, and order across all communities, particularly in Edu LGA, where the incident occurred.

“The Kwara State Police Command under my leadership will continue to uphold professionalism, integrity, and accountability in all its operations,” the CP affirmed.
