APC Senatorial Aspirant, Barr. Gyang Zi, Demands ₦10bn Over Alleged Defamation and Disqualification

A Plateau North Senatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Gyang Zi (SAN), has issued a formal notice to the party leadership demanding ₦10 billion compensation over alleged defamation and what he described as his wrongful exclusion from the party’s senatorial primary process.

In a letter dated May 18, 2026, and addressed to the National Chairman of the APC in Abuja, the senior lawyer protested his inclusion on a published list of aspirants reportedly “not cleared” to participate in the Plateau North Senatorial primary election.

Barr. Zi stated that he had duly purchased and submitted his nomination and expression of interest forms and complied with all requirements for the contest ahead of the 2027 general elections. He expressed shock that his name appeared on the APC’s official social media publication among aspirants allegedly disqualified from the race without any stated reason.

The legal practitioner described the publication as defamatory and damaging to his reputation, political ambition, and supporters. He consequently demanded the immediate discontinuance of the primary process and requested ₦10 billion in damages for alleged defamation of character and destabilization of his political structure.

Barr. Zi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), highlighted his educational, professional, and political credentials in the notice. His qualifications include LL.B, BL, and LL.M degrees, while he is also a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and the Chartered Institute of Arbitration (UK).

He has held several leadership and legal positions, including Principal Counsel and Head of Litigation at Gyang Zi & Co Knights Firm, National Legal Adviser of the Catholic Men Organization of Nigeria, and former Chairman of the Berom Lawyers Forum.

The notice further warned that failure by the APC to address the matter within seven days could lead to further legal action.

You’ve The Right To Defend Yourselves – Presidency Tells Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has declared that the Nigerian government will end killings in the country.

Bwala made the remark while maintaining that Nigerians reserve the right to defend themselves with lethal weapons against aggressors in their houses.

He spoke on Arise Television on Wednesday in reaction to the killings in Esiele community in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

On Friday, gunmen had invaded the LA Primary school where teachers and pupils were abducted.

Reacting, Bwala said: “Solution is what we all look to, evil men operate anywhere in the world, no matter how tight you are as a government.

“You do your best and expect that with the help of God and collective participation of the people through collective intelligence we will be able to put an end to it.

“I know the Nigerian people will continue to complain. So because if for example, no matter how we say that we are sorry and the incident happened again people will complain, cry and mourn because it’s the life of the Nigerian people that are taken away by the evil element. We will put an end to this as a people.

“Every eve of elections in Nigeria from 2014, 2018, 2022, and now 2026 you will see that crisis increases because of the idea of a crisis economy. A lot of people take advantage of that but the will and spirit of the collective people is what will put an end to this situation.

“The constitution has guarantee to every citizen of Nigeria the right to self defense, you have the right to defend yourself.

“When your right, my right, and that of my neighbour is put together, it becomes collective right to defend ourselves and Nigerians have the right to defend themselves.

“If you come to my house to try to kill me, any lethal weapon I use to defend myself is guaranteed by the constitution.

“Number two as a people we have vigilante and in Borno State we have paramilitary organizations that provide intelligence to law enforcement.

“Nigerians don’t have the right to bear certain arms unless those arms are permitted but the collective people can come together to apply to the government for the right to coordinate themselves.”

Fear of Crisis as Plateau APC Stakeholders Seek Publication of Electoral Committees

A coalition of concerned stakeholders, youth leaders, ward coordinators, and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has issued a strong call to the National Chairman of the party and the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately publish the official names of members of the Electoral Committees assigned to conduct the forthcoming governorship and State House of Assembly primaries in the state.

The group, operating under the banner Concerned APC Stakeholders for Electoral Transparency in Plateau State, made the call following consultations among party members in Jos, stressing the need for transparency, internal democracy, and the avoidance of disputes that have historically trailed party primaries.

According to the coalition, the publication of committee membership is critical to ensuring credibility, trust, and compliance with the APC Constitution and operational guidelines.

Speaking on behalf of the group, its coordinator, Yilji B. John, said the demand is not intended to undermine the party leadership but to strengthen due process and prevent avoidable post-primary conflicts.

“We are not opposing the party leadership. We are only demanding transparency and strict compliance with the APC Constitution. Plateau APC cannot afford another round of conflicting figures, parallel announcements, and post-election disputes.

The names of those assigned to conduct these primaries must be made public immediately,” he stated.

The group further issued the following detailed position:
“We call on the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately publish the official names of the Electoral Committee members dispatched to Plateau State for the upcoming governorship and State House of Assembly primary elections.
We cannot afford a repeat of the confusion, conflicting figures, and unauthorized parallel announcements that marred the recent House of Representatives primaries. To protect the integrity of our party in Plateau State and save us from avoidable post-election litigation, or division within the party, we demand strict compliance with the APC Constitution and the party’s operational guidelines”.

“Let it be known to all aspirants, party faithful, officials, and stakeholders that the law is clear on who has the authority to conduct these elections and declare results.”

“THE CONSTITUTIONAL BASIS FOR OUR DEMAND:
1. For the Governorship Primary:
The Rule: Only the NWC-appointed Committee Chairman serves as the Chief Returning Officer. No state official or local executive has the authority to declare a winner.

The Law (Article 20.3, APC Constitution):
“The nomination of a candidate for the office of Governor shall be done at a State Congress… conducted by an Election Committee appointed by the National Working Committee.”

The Guidelines (Section on Collation and Declaration):
“The Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, in his capacity as the Chief Returning Officer, shall publicly collate the scores, announce the final results, and declare the winner…”

  1. For the State House of Assembly Primaries:
The Rule: Local government or ward executives do not have the constitutional authority to declare legislative primary winners.
The Law (Operational Guidelines, Clause 8):
“The Chairman of the Primary Election Committee or his designated constituency returning officer shall be the sole authority to collate the votes, record the results on the official result sheets, and announce the winner.”
  2. Publication is Mandatory Before the Elections!
The Law (Article 13.4, Subsections xiv & xv):
The NWC is constitutionally mandated to appoint and supervise Primary Election Committees in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
    The Guidelines (Clause 4):
“…Their names shall be made public through official party channels to ensure transparency.”

A STRONG CALL TO THE NATIONAL SECRETARIAT!
Section 84 of the Electoral Act and established INEC procedures leave no room for administrative secrecy. Failing to publicly announce and formally inaugurate these committee chairmen before the primaries commence creates significant grounds for aggrieved aspirants to challenge the process in court.

Undisclosed deployments compromise the transparency and credibility of our democratic process.

The coalition also calls for the immediate conduct of the mandatory pre-primary stakeholders’ interactive session involving aspirants, security agencies, and INEC monitors, in accordance with party guidelines.

Reaffirming loyalty to the APC, the group insists that these steps are necessary to protect internal democracy, strengthen trust among members, and ensure credible outcomes in the forthcoming primaries.

Senator I.D. Gyang Denies Stepping Down From Plateau North Senate Race

The Campaign Council of Senator I.D Gyang has dismissed reports circulating online claiming that the lawmaker has withdrawn from the race for the Plateau North Senatorial District seat.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the campaign described the reports as “false, misleading, and malicious,” alleging that they were orchestrated by desperate political actors seeking to create confusion among party members and supporters.

The statement, signed by Comrade Lot Adas, Director General of the Senator I.D. Gyang Campaign Council, maintained that the senator remains fully committed to contesting the seat and has not stepped down for any aspirant.

According to the campaign, Senator Gyang remains one of the leading contenders in the race due to his grassroots support, record of service delivery, and ability to unite members of the All Progressive Congress ahead of the elections.

The council urged party faithful, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the reports entirely and rely only on official communications released through the senator’s verified channels and accredited media team.

The campaign also called on registered APC members to participate in the party’s direct primaries taking place on Monday, May 18, 2026, across the wards under the supervision of accredited party officials.

APC Rejects Earlier PKK Primary Result, Declares Gagdi Winner

A dramatic twist has unfolded in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency after party officials rejected an earlier result declaration and officially announced Yusuf Adamu Gagdi as the winner of the contest.

The controversy followed an earlier announcement that declared John Tongshinen victorious in the primary election, a declaration the party later described as unauthorized and invalid.

Chairman of the Plateau APC Primaries Electoral Committee, Stella Okotete, clarified on Monday that only the officially appointed returning officer had the constitutional authority to declare the results of the election.

Addressing journalists in Jos, Okotete stated that was the only recognized returning officer for the primary and that any declaration made outside his mandate should be disregarded.

“The only officially appointed returning officer, Nandom Andrew Kura, has the constitutional authority to declare the results of the primary election,” she said.

Following the clarification, the committee affirmed that Kura officially declared Gagdi winner of the APC House of Representatives primary election conducted across the constituency on Saturday.

Reacting to the development, Gagdi insisted that the primary election was credible and properly conducted in all 36 electoral wards within the constituency.

Speaking with journalists after the declaration, the lawmaker said the process was supported by accreditation records, photographs, and video evidence, dismissing allegations of multiple authentic results.

He also described the earlier declaration attributed to Daspan Ishaya as fraudulent, maintaining that the individual was neither appointed by the electoral committee nor authorized to announce election outcomes.

“The constitution and guidelines of the party clearly vest the power to appoint election officials in the electoral committee. Any declaration outside that authority is null and void,” Gagdi stated.

The reversal of the earlier result has sparked fresh controversy within the constituency, with supporters of the previously announced winner reportedly expressing dissatisfaction over the development.

The APC primary election in the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency remains one of the most closely watched political contests in Plateau State ahead of the 2027 general elections due to Gagdi’s political influence and the intense competition surrounding the race.
