Dawap is HipHop in ‘Baban Riga’ – DaBoomsha Segun Ayinla

SMASHING STEREOS AND BREAKING BARRIERS 🔥
Dawap is HipHop in ‘Baban Riga’

It’s one thing to know how to rap. It’s another thing to be able to apply it to your real life and local community.

Strike One…

It’s one thing to preach the gospel. It’s another thing to break it down and make it relatable to the man on the streets.

Strike Two…

It’s one thing to make music that’s trending amongst your peers. It’s another thing to make an album your friends can bump to but even your Grandma has a favourite joint.

Knock out…

Dawap is relatively new in the game but we all can learn something from his debut. The 24- track mixtape (that’s an awful lot!) effortlessly bridges the gap between generations and music audiences. From the hiphop heads to the trappers. From the urban gospel crowd to the traditional churches. There’s a song for everybody…even 4 year olds (I’m not kidding). That’s not something your favs can pull off in a jiffy (lol…believe me they have tried!).

Dawap exhibits a maturity beyond his age in his approach to topics. It’s refreshing to hear music with depth and substance from a young Nigerian rapper (not like he is the only one sha…but you get the point). Anyway, this is not an album review so i wont bore you with a track by track breakdown. However, i find it interesting that the songs done in hausa sound more hiphop than the ones done in English. Dawap’s translation of the gospel through hiphop does not drop quality…infact it enhances it. That’s the point of this whole gist.

There’s evidently a lot of room for improvement for young dawap in terms of his artistry, delivery and song arrangement. Maybe a lot less number of songs next time (wink)…But in terms of interpreting hiphop in the context of Northern Nigeria and making music that resonates with his environment without losing the core essence of the artform, Dawap has the art down to a science.

I believe the cultural significance of this album would be better understood and appreciated in retrospect. Unfortunately a prophet is often without honour in his hometown and amongst his own brethren. Nonetheless we meuve!

100 level Student falls off vehicle & dies during a protest in Jos

Following the protest embarked upon by the students of Plateau state university, Bokkos on Monday, a 100 Level student of the University, has reportedly fell off a vehicle during protest and dead

JAMB urges universities to ensure use of CAPS system during admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reiterated that only admission through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) was valid and not otherwise.

The board made this known in a statement by its Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Wednesday, April 14, in Abuja.

While warning universities against issuing illegal admission letters, JAMB also advised candidates not to accept admissions not processed through CAPS.

“The attention of the Board has been drawn to illegitimate admissions purported being conducted by some universities, including the University of Abuja.

“These universities have been reported to be issuing admission letters to candidates without recourse to the board.

“It is therefore, pertinent to state that such admissions that have not been processed, approved and accepted on the CAPS are null and void.

“As such, asking hapless candidates to pay acceptance fees for such admissions that have not been processed through CAPS amounts to illegality. Consequently, such admissions are illegal, therefore remain null and void.

“They are unacceptable and offensive to extant rules and regulations guiding admissions to tertiary institutions in Nigeria as approved by the Federal Ministry of Education and provided on CAPS,” the JAMB board said.

The board recalled that it instituted CAPS in 2017 as an automated platform, designed to ensure that admissions were transparently done to protect the interest of all Nigerians desirous of tertiary education.

“JAMB, therefore, advised candidates to be alert and refuse to accept any admissions not processed, approved and accepted on CAPS.

“By implication, any candidate who has not accepted and printed his or her admissions letter on CAPS should not pay any acceptance fee.

“It should be noted that admission guidelines stipulate that institutions recommend qualified candidates through CAPS in accordance with laid-down criteria to the board for approval.

“As such, any such admission not approved by the board is an exercise in futility.”

It stated any institution violating this well-intentioned guideline had much to hide and the board would not shy away from its responsibility of ensuring compliance to laid-down admission guidelines.

GOVERNOR LALONG PRAISES SECURITY FORCES FOR THWARTING ATTEMPTED KIDNAP OF PLASU STUDENTS

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong is full of praises and admiration to security personnel for their swift response that thwarted the attempted kidnap of four students at the Plateau State University, Bokkos.

The attempted kidnap was said to have occurred on Monday night when gunmen stormed the off-campus student residences at Ndar Community near the University campus and attempted to kidnap four students.

On receiving the distress call, officers of Operation Safe Haven, Operation Rainbow, Nigeria Police, University Security and Community Watch Group mobilised and went after the kidnappers who had taken four students. Facing apparent capture, the criminals aborted their mission and ran away leading to the safe recovery of the students.

Governor Lalong who commended the security agencies for rising up to the occasion and being proactive directed the immediate establishment of a police post within the host community of the University in order to forestall any future reoccurrence.

The Governor also directed that security is tightened in all other schools across the State to guarantee the safety and security of students.

It would be recalled that the Governor had last year directed the University Management to improve security of the institution which led to the installation of CCTV surveillance and early warning systems all over the campus as well as the preparation for fencing of the entire campus.

The Governor has assured the students that all necessary measures will continue to be employed to ensure that they learn and dwell under a peaceful, secure and conducive environment.

Meanwhile, the Governor has again appealed to the citizens to assist security agencies with relevant intelligence that will lead to not only the arrest of the fleeing kidnappers, but to the apprehension of all criminal elements that are bent on disrupting the peace of the State.

He also commends the Local Government Chairman Yusuf Machen for sustaining synergy with the security agencies and the University community which is key to achieving peace and security in the area. He wants this tempo sustained as traditonal and community leaders as well as the newly deployed community police constables to be carried along to frustrate the plans criminals.

NAFDAC arrests dealers of chemicals responsible for Kano poisoning

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has apprehended the merchants of dangerous chemicals used in food and drinks supposedly to enhance taste that killed three people in Kano.

The three died after consuming adulterated flavoured drinks, NAFDAC stated.

The agency’s Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, made this known in a statement issued by Mr Olusayo Akintola, the NAFDAC Resident Media Consultant on Sunday, April 11, in Abuja.

The NAFDAC chief, therefore, warned against adding chemicals or additives to food and drinks to enhance taste, stressing that such practice could result to severe illness and even death.

Adeyeye said the agency would stop at nothing to ensure that only safe food and other regulated products were available in the market for consumption and use.

She said that preliminary result of the agency’s investigation of the victims had been submitted to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State during her two-day visit to the state to assess the incident.

She noted that “it was heart warming that merchants of the deadly chemicals and additives had been apprehended while further investigation continued.”

According to her, the importance of food cannot be over emphasised and that when dangerous foreign elements find their way into foods and water, it becomes poisonous rather than being nutritious.

She pointed out that food contamination and poisoning could occur through consuming expired food or preparing food with poorly sourced water and putting cooked food on the shelf for several days or months.

She said “we are very particular about food additives, about the temperature at which food can be kept, or about the expiration date of food. If all of these are violated, then there can be food poisoning.

“Whether it is food or water, adding chemicals and other substances either to enhance the food or change its form can be dangerous, especially when we can’t verify the source and content of such additives.

“NAFDAC is now working assiduously in partnership with the Kano State Government with a view to preventing reoccurrence of the March 11 incident.”
