Twitter is deleting inactive accounts – Musk

Twitter is deleting inactive accounts said Elon Musk on Monday

Musk is taking this measure in an effort to boost user engagement and revenue-generating potential at the internet platform he spent $44 billion on last year.

Musk stated in a tweet that “We’re purging accounts that have had no activity at all for several years; so, you will likely see follower count drop.”

Users and advertisers have been alienated by Musk-mandated changes at Twitter, including staff reductions and the elimination of free verification checkmarks that were seen as seals of authenticity.

Some journalistic, celebrity, and other high-profile accounts had their blue ticks reinstalled by the end of April, despite strong opposition from the recipients.

At the moment, Musk tweeted that he was “paying for a few (subscriptions) personally”.

Many official media accounts regained a tick, including AFP, which has not subscribed to Twitter Blue.

The reinstated ticks did not lure back US public radio NPR, which in mid-April suspended activity on its accounts.

The broadcaster was among those to protest the “state-affiliated” and “government-funded” labels Twitter attached to them; these labels were previously reserved for non-independent media which funded by autocratic governments.

Since Musk bought Twitter, the company has relaxed the moderation of content on the network. They have welcomed back many users banned because of messages inciting hatred or spreading misinformation.

Market trackers say Twitter revenues have fallen as advertisers avoid the platform.

Presidential tribunal begins hearing today

The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal begins hearing on the petitions filed by the presidential candidates of Labour Party (LP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as winner of the February 2023 presidential election.

National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmad El-Marzuq, confirmed this. According to El-Marzuq, the APC legal team has been briefed and is ready to defend the party’s mandate.

Recall that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, declared Tinubu the president-elect on March 1.

According to INEC, Tinubu polled 8.8million votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and candidates of and 15 other parties.

Atiku and Obi have since filed separate petitions seeking orders to annul the election or declare them as winners.

Tinubu, APC and INEC have also filed counter-petitions at the tribunal, dismissing the claims of the PDP and LP.

Meanwhile, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the judiciary to fend off and protect itself from purported attempts to undermine its independence and impartiality.

The ruling party has been accused of plotting to influence the outcome of the petitions before the tribunal.

Speaking at the news conference yesterday, PDP national publicity secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba claimed that APC had planned to sway the tribunal.

He claimed that the APC leaders have been intimidating, harassing, and threatening young people and prominent Nigerian figures for speaking out against actions being taken to impose a government that does not have the support of the majority of Nigerians, as expressed at the voting booths.

Sabitu in his words said “when we saw the declaration by Hon Gagdi we were overwhelmed with joy,

AMFAC is a youthful group with all her members not more than the age of 45, we have to clamor for a more youthful leadership which will be our only pride most especially in the hallowed chamber. We are pleading, that the zoning for the leadership of the House of Representatives should be to the North Central geo-political zone, in other to amplify the chances of Hon Gagdi”

May 29th is fast approaching, and so far 10 members of the house of reps are contesting including the incumbent deputy speaker Wase, who is from the same zone with Gagdi. AMFAC also promised to rally around for support from other Northern youth groups to have meetings with their representatives in the Green chamber to support the aspirations of Hon Gagdi.

Having properly digested the Manifesto “THE GAGDI PLAN”, AMFAC is optimistic that no Nigerian would not want to be a part of such a great and feasible plan, as the honorable member has exemplified with Sponsoring logical bills and projects in his constituency.
The race is on, and fingers are crossed to see the zoning decisions that would be made after the swearing in of the president Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
