King Charles finally crowned as heir to his late mother Queen Elizabeth II, as he was officially crowned king in the first coronation in Britain since 1953.
At 12:02 pm, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby placed the solid gold St Edward’s Crown on Charles’s head as a sacred and ancient symbol of the monarch’s authority.
Cries of “God Save the King” rang out from the 2,300-strong congregation at Westminster Abbey and trumpet fanfares sounded at the climax of the solemn religious confirmation of his accession.
Charles
Outside, ceremonial gun salutes blasted out across land and sea; while bells pealed in celebration at churches across the country.
The build-up to the Christian ceremony of prayer and praise — steeped; in 1,000 years of British history and tradition, with sumptuous robes and priceless regalia — has been; mostly celebratory.
But even before Charles, 74, and Queen Camilla, 75, left Buckingham Palace for a rainy procession to the abbey, police arrested dozens of protesters using new powers; rushed onto the statute book to crack down on direct action groups.
The anti-monarchy movement Republic — which wants an elected head of state — said six of its organizers were; detained, while climate activists Just Stop Oil said 19 of its number were; held.
Nevertheless, dozens of Republic activists held aloft banners on the route of the procession route, declaring: “Not My King.”
Both Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International voiced concern at the arrests. “This is; something you would expect to see in Moscow, not London,” HRW said.
London’s Metropolitan Police has some 11,500 officers on the streets in one of its biggest-ever security operations. It has warned that it has; an “extremely low threshold” for protests.
As well as being the first coronation in 70 years, it was the first of a king since 1937. It was; only the second to be televised and the first in color and streamed online.
Pledge
Much of the two-hour Anglican service, in which Charles pledged “I come not to be served but to serve”, would have been; recognizable to the 39 other monarchs crowned at Westminster Abbey since 1066.
But while many of the intricate rituals and ceremonies; to recognize Charles as his people’s “undoubted king” remained, the king sought to bring other aspects of the service up to date.
Women bishops participated for the first time, as did leaders of Britain’s non-Christian faiths while its Celtic languages — Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, and Irish Gaelic — featured prominently.

He wished him more years of God’s grace and wisdom.
Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy senate president, was recently given a 9 year, 8 month prison term by a UK court. Beatrice Ekweremadu, his wife, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, and Obeta received a ten-year sentence.
According to Metro UK, he was imprisoned for planning to have a young guy trafficked to the UK so that his organs could be harvested for their ailing daughter. This was a legal first.
Millionaire Senator Ike Ekweremadu, 60, his wife Beatrice, 56, and medical “middleman” Dr. Obinna Obeta, 51, were convicted guilty in March at the Old Bailey following a landmark case involving contemporary slavery.
To donate a kidney to the Ekweremadus’ 25-year-old daughter Sonia, their victim, a street vendor from Lagos, was transported to the UK.
After the Royal Free Hospital stopped the private £80,000 procedure, he escaped in fear for his safety and entered a police station precisely a year ago to tell what had happened.
Ike Ekweremadu was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison on Friday in a televised sentencing, with Mr. Justice Johnson acknowledging his “substantial fall from grace.”
The senior judge said:‘People-trafficking across international borders for the harvesting of human organs is a form of slavery.
‘It treats human beings and their body parts as commodities to be bought and sold.
‘It is a trade that preys on poverty, misery and desperation.’
He told the defendants:‘You each played a part in that despicable trade.’
On the question of harm to the victim, if the intended transplant went ahead,
he said: ‘He would have faced spending the rest of his life with only one kidney and without the requisite funding for the required aftercare.’
He added the risks had not been properly explained and there had been no consent ‘in any meaningful sense’.
During the hearing, the victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said he only found out what was planned when he was taken to the north London hospital for an initial consultation.
In a statement read to court: ‘I would never (have) agreed to any of this.
‘My body is not for sale.’
He spoke of his fears for his own safety and that of his family in Nigeria who had been visited and told to ‘drop’ the case. He said: ‘I cannot think about going home to Nigeria. ‘These people are extremely powerful and I worry for my family. ‘Even though I live here in the UK at the moment I know I need to be careful too. ‘I have no-one here, no family, no friends. ‘I am having to start my life again. ‘I’m worried about my family in Nigeria but I have been told my dad had been visited and was told to drop the case in the UK.’ It is the first time anyone has been convicted under the Modern Slavery Act of an organ-harvesting conspiracy. Scotland Yard declined to say whether more charges would be brought but said the investigation was ongoing. Police have highlighted soaring numbers of modern slavery cases in recent years with a small number involving organ harvesting.

A US jury has determined that Ed Sheeran, a British pop musician, did not plagiarize Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye when he wrote his hit song Thinking Out Loud. Sheeran hailed the choice as a triumph for creative freedom.
The jury came to the conclusion that the English performer had “independently” written the 2014 Grammy Award-winning song on Thursday. Sheeran later gave his group an embrace inside a courthouse in Manhattan.
The heirs of Gaye co-writer Ed Townsend filed a lawsuit against Sheeran for copyright infringement in 2017. They claimed that Gaye’s song’s “heart”—its melody, harmony, and rhythm—were all lifted verbatim by Thinking Out Loud.
The earnings from Sheeran’s song were also claimed by the heirs.
The musician told reporters outside of court that being accused of snatching someone had been “devastating.” He also added that he was “very happy” with the outcome.
“We might as well say goodbye to the creative freedom of songwriters,” Sheeran stated if the jury had reached a different conclusion.
Insiders in the industry were eagerly watching the civil lawsuit. They were concerned that it may open the door to further legal action and stifle songwriters’ creative freedom.
In a single year, Sheeran underwent two copyright trials. In April 2022, he prevailed in a court lawsuit in London over the 2017 smash hit song Shape of You. He stated that the situation was an illustration of excessive copyright litigation.
There have been a few important music copyright cases in recent years.
One of the most significant occurred in 2015 when Gaye’s family successfully sued Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over similarities between their song Blurred Lines and Gaye’s Got to Give it Up
