Which Rappers Are Dropping A New Album This Year

This has been an insane year in a lot of ways, but thankfully, it hasn’t stopped some great albums from coming out. Here are the best rappers dropping the most noteworthy albums this year.

J. Cole

J. Cole has had a good year, especially when it comes to collaborations with other artists. He made over a hundred songs last year, but under twenty made it onto his album, indicating his high level of specificity in what he chooses to release. He worked with DaBaby and Ty Dolla Sign to create an incredible album in Revenge of the Dreamer III.

If you’re looking for an album to make you feel more connected in a disconnected time, this might be the choice for you. The collaboration with other artists isn’t just for the sake of creating superb music; it’s also to help us all feel connected in the pursuit of something bigger.

Mac Miller

You may be pretty surprised to hear that Mac Miller is one of the most noteworthy artists releasing an album this year, considering that he is no longer with us after his sudden passing in 2018. However, he was working on a bunch of amazing music before he passed.

This album was finished and released posthumously. It has a soft hip hop sound which seems appropriate. While its not the hard-hitting rap that you’re used to, it is the right tribute for an incredible artist taken from us too soon. This album is called Swimming, which speaks to the gentle nature of this album, especially in comparison to previous albums

Suga

This powerful album from Mega Three Stallion has been all over TikTok with a choreographed dance to the song ‘Savage’ by fans. A remix with Beyonce has added more hype to this album.

Perhaps because of all this media attention, or perhaps just because of its merits, this album has propelled upwards into a strong choice for albums this year. If you need help coming to

grips with the strange new world that we’re all living in, this may be just the album that you need.

Eminem

Eminem has been releasing stellar rap albums for a long time, and they’ve been knocking out fans and stirring up the music industry the whole time. This year is no different with his new album, Music to be Murdered By.

This rough and eloquent album is a strong statement on all kinds of social issues, from sexual harassment to gun control. It is packed with Eminem’s signature passion and rockstar presence. This album also has a song with Juice WRLD, which is a beautiful tribute to the late rapper. Fans have been waiting for this album for some time, and it absolutely does not disappoint.

Westside Gunn

This rapper is on a steady climb up, with the bravery to experiment and the talent to pull it off. This album plays with a 90s flair, which is charmingly nostalgic during these strange times. Listening to this album is so much fun, it makes it hard to stay in a bad mood. This wild character loves to endow his lyrics and musical style with a jaunty and unexpected attitude that you’ll love. Pray for Paris is truly one of the most fun albums this year.

Jay Electronica

Jay doesn’t publish when his fans want him to, but when he feels that he has something great to offer. Therefore, this most recent album, A Written Testimony, has kept fans waiting for some time.

However, it doesn’t leave them disappointed. It has some powerful music to offer, with even more substance offered by Travis Scott and Jay-Z. Gorgeous lo-fi tones pair with a substantial chorus to offer a robust sound.

This album brings in a spiritual element with influences from the nation of Islam which makes this album larger than music. If you haven’t checked out Jay Electronica, he has a lot to offer and is well worth getting to know.

Boldy James & Alchemist

The Price of Tea in China has a wide range of styles, providing a window into the extensive talent offered by this group. The beautiful storytelling will leave you rewinding and listening over and over again.

Minimal beats make this a great choice for when you want more relaxing options in rap music. This tasteful album puts the emphasis on the lyrics, but doesn’t leave the beat behind, offering an overall tasteful and well-balanced album.

Facebook is clamping down on groups tied to violence and health misinformation

Facebook announced today that it is taking additional steps to limit the spread of harmful content and misinformation in Groups. The social networking giant is honing in on Groups that contain health-related posts and those that are tied to violence.

Tom Alison, Facebook’s Vice President of Engineering, said the company has begun removing health groups from recommendations in order to give priority to authoritative sources of health information. That said, users can still invite others to health groups they belong to or search for this type of groups. The latest step comes after Facebook drew flak earlier this year for allowing people to share false information surrounding COVID-19, including conspiracy theories and fake remedies.

In addition, the company is taking more stringent steps to limit the scope of groups linked to violence by removing them from recommendations, reducing their presence in search, and limiting their content in News Feed. This builds on Facebook’s ongoing efforts to crack down on groups that pose risks to public safety; such as U.S.-based militia organizations and QAnon.

Facebook noted that it took down more than 1 million groups over the last year for violating its policies. It is now preventing repeat offenders from creating new groups for a period of time; though it’s not clear how long that window lasts. For groups with no admin for some time; the company plans to archive them in the next few weeks. Admins who are about to step down can also invite members to become admins; and if nobody accepts the invitation, Facebook will suggest admin roles to members.

US reviews visa ban on migrant Nigerians as FG satisfies 90% requirements

The US government says it is reevaluating its ban on some categories of Migrant Visas for Nigerians having been satisfied with the country’s level of compliance with information sharing and other concerns.

Amb. Mustapha Sulaiman, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the end of the inaugural meeting of the US/Nigeria Forum in Abuja on Wednesday, September 16.

According to Sulaiman, the forum will serve as a platform where both countries can progressively improve on bilateral relations and address concerns for the benefit of citizens.

The permanent secretary said that the US was reviewing the ban on Nigeria because it had met almost 90 percent of the requirements set by the US government.

According to him, the US placed a ban on some categories of migrant visas in January because the requirements set by the US were far from being met.

“We have accomplished so much within a very difficult year, but essentially we want to acknowledge the recognition and put on record Nigeria’s response to the concerns by the United States government in respect of the immigrant visa restriction that was imposed on Nigerians.

“I want to say that we appreciate the acknowledgement and the commendations from the United States government with respect to this response.

“From the assessment of the recipient of our response, I think we have accomplished almost 90 percent of the requirements that have been set in that regard.

“And I am sure that if you follow the information that has been passed on the level of compliance, for instance, sharing of information, we have done so much in that regard.

“That is why I believe the US government is having the comfort to even reevaluate. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been candidates for reevaluation.

“If we have to rate ourselves, from what has been done so far, we should be about 90 percent compliant,” Sulaiman said.

Sulaiman commended all stakeholders that workéd hard to ensure that Nigeria made appreciable progress to earn the commendations from especially the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the US Embassy in Nigeria.

Also speaking, US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard commended Nigeria on the progress made in information sharing and other concerns raised by the U.S. government, which led to the ban.

Leonard explained that the Presidential Proclamation enjoins the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State to prepare a report addressing the measures that have been taken which is then submitted to the White House for reevaluation.

She said that contrary to reports, the ban Presidential Proclamation did not mean that no Nigerian could ever enter into the US.

She said fortunately the bi-national commission meeting was held at about the same time of the proclamation which allowed Nigeria’s Foreign Minister and the U.S Secretary of State to make public statements on what it entailed.

“I have to congratulate Nigeria on its progress on greater information sharing with the United States.

“We have reviewed the Federal Government’s report on information sharing and we are inspired by the strides that Nigeria has made to improve access to stolen and lost travel documents.

“And I am particularly encouraged by the Sept. 7 announcement that the U.S provided Interpol router is successfully connected to Nigeria’s Immigration Service and National center bureau in Abuja.

“Washington is extremely pleased about that development in particular,” Leonard said.

On the imposition of visa restriction to those who undermine the electoral process, Leonard said the US “takes it very seriously”.

She said anyone found guilty would be subjected to the sanctions.

1st News had reported on Jan. 31 that President Donald Trump expanded his administration’s curbs on immigration visas to Nigeria and six other countries for failing to meet U.S Security and information sharing standards.

President Buhari justifies borrowing to fund infrastructure

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday justified government borrowing to finance infrastructure; asserting that his government took loans in the interest of the country to solve the dire shortfall in infrastructure.

Speaking at a virtual meeting; with members of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) at the State House, in Abuja; President Buhari said the country must fix its roads to save lives from soaring road accidents.

“We have so many challenges with infrastructure. We just have to take loans to do roads, rail and power; so that investors will find us attractive; and come here to put their money,” the President said after listening to a presentation by PEAC chaired by Professor Ayo Salami.

He regretted that the failure to provide the infrastructure for effective transportation deprived the country of its well-deserved status; as the West African hub for Air cargo transportation and trans-shipment of goods.

On the issue of the economy, President Buhari noted the challenges posed by the “collapse of the oil market;” and the decision of government to abide by the reduced oil production quota allocated by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

“We have to accept that decision; otherwise they (Middle-East producers) can flood the market; and make the product unviable. So, we have cooperated with what we get. With oil, we are in a difficult situation. The politics of oil is that the less you produce, the more you earn,” he said.

President Buhari also stressed the position of agriculture in the government’s scheme to reduce joblessness and poverty.

“For us to bounce back to productivity; especially in agriculture, the unemployed with many of them uneducated had to be persuaded to go into agriculture.

“If we hadn’t gone back to the lands we would have been in trouble by now. That is why we virtually stopped the importation of food thereby saving jobs and foreign exchange”.

The President also broached the issue of COVID-19 pandemic and how it necessitated the recent government policies as they relate to energy (electricity) and fuel.

He said the Federal government took such decisions because it places the country above politics.

“COVID has reduced us to the same level as developed countries.

“We are lucky we went back to the land. We eat what we produce. And we are doing our best to secure the country and provide infrastructure for investment to be viable in the country,” he said.

Commending the Chairman and the members of the council for their patriotism and service to the nation, President Buhari pledged to continue to draw from their wisdom, knowledge and experiences as the nation deals with challenging economic times.

Earlier, Prof Salami had in his presentation highlighted the Council’s recommendations on poverty reduction and stimulation of non-debt investment inflows, as promised at their last meeting.

The council recommended steps for the effective implementation of government’s plan to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty, as well as measures to curb poverty disparity in Nigeria.

The council promised to set out a full policy paper that would, in the first instance, stop more Nigerians from falling into poverty and thereafter, further plans on reducing the poverty headcount in the country.

The PEAC also outlined a number of measures aimed at aggressively increasing the country’s non-debt investment inflow, including measures to improve investor perception of the country and the proposed establishment of a 5 billion – 10 billion dollars investment and growth fund to invest in.

The PEAC used the opportunity of the meeting to express support and solidarity with the administration on its recent policies.

It listed the implementation of reforms encapsulated in the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 recently signed into law; the reforms in the energy sector; bringing electricity and fuel prices in line with the market; and the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria to merge the exchange rate of the naira versus other foreign currencies.

Naira falls on black market after forex ban for food imports

Forex Ban: Naira depreciated by 1.09% to N460 on the parallel market on Monday, days after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt dollar sales for importation of foods and fertiliser.

The Naira had firmed dramatically a fortnight ago on the black market following the regulator’s resumption of foreign exchange supply to individuals and investors in a bid to clear a heap of dollar demand.

Yet, sales have been pretty inadequate according to traders; with pressure mounting on the local currency.

Between last year and now, 16.6% of Nigeria’s foreign reserves has shrunken to around $35.77 billion.

Forex liquidity faded out on the spot market after international investors quit the economy in the aftermath of the recent oil crash. But dollar sales by the CBN have been inadequate also.

Turnover on the over-the-counter spot market also called the Investors and Exporters (I&E) forex window plunged; from a high of $1.3 billion in February to a low of $3.9 million in August.

On Monday, naira traded at N381 to a dollar on the official market supported by the CBN while it was quoted at N385.83 on the I&E forex window.

“It doesn’t help that some … pronouncement … will likely send more demand to (black) market. These developments forex ban – put more pressure on the parallel market rates; particularly in the midst of very little supply,” trader told Reuters.

TUC issues one-week strike ultimatum to FG over fuel price hike, other issues

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), on Monday, September 14, issued a one-week strike notice to the Federal Government to reverse the recent increase in electricity tariff and petrol price.

This warning was contained in a letter addressed to the President Muhammadu Buhari and dated September 14, 2020.

According to TUC, an indefinite strike action would commence from Wednesday, September 23, if FG refused to reverse the increase in electricity tariff and petrol price.

The letter, entitled ‘We cannot bear the burden any longer, issuance of seven days ultimatum,’ was signed by its President, Mr Quadri Olaleye, and Secretary-General, Mr Musa Lawal.

“We have observed the gradual and steady annihilation of Nigeria and Nigerians in the light of government actions for the umpteenth time,” the union said.

It said some of the issues that had become worrisome to the working class; their families as well as the masses included; the sudden increase in the pump price of petrol without any definitive and concrete efforts to also make the nation’s refineries functional.

The TUC said the increase in electricity tariff was done without proper consultation and consideration of the effect of COVID-19; commensurate electricity supply as well as the provision of prepaid meters

It said other issues included the non-implementation of the negotiated national minimum wage by most of the state governments; and the Federal Government’s inability to create and also sustain salary date; as well as calendar to ensure transparency.

The union said, “Government should take immediate steps to: reverse the hike in prices as it affects electricity; petrol; as well as all other social services in the country to status quo ante (prior to increase) within seven days.

“Provide adequate and quality healthcare and also education; for all to save the poor as well as the vulnerable at all levels.

“These demands are made in good faith, and to save the dying masses and the vulnerable in our society. In the event of not showing empathy for this class of people by adhering to above demands; we shall, together with our civil societies and allies sympathetic to the suffering masses of our people; commence an indefinite industrial action and national protest from Wednesday, September 23, 2020.”
