Speaking on behalf of the Director General of PSPBA, Mr. Kenneth Dakop welcomed participants from Bassa and Riyom, emphasizing the timeliness of the dialogue amid escalating security challenges. He noted that the meeting, supported by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), provided a platform for stakeholders to develop sustainable local security solutions and urged active, solution-oriented engagement.

He encouraged citizens to share information, report suspicious activities, and support security efforts to enhance safety across Plateau State.

Representing the NRC, Mrs. Nandi Dakle highlighted the partnership’s importance in addressing disruptions caused by insecurity, including school closures and community displacement. After 22 Years of Neglect, Plateau Tertiary Workers Celebrate Hope as Governor Mutfwang Grants Full Absorption

Jos, Plateau State — Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang on Tuesday met with newly absorbed staff of tertiary institutions at the Victoria Gowon Hall, New Government House, Little Rayfield, in a gathering that highlighted his administration’s dedication to repositioning the education sector. The meeting brought together top government officials, heads of institutions, and long-serving workers who had waited years for recognition.

Governor Mutfwang explained that the state had earlier suspended the recruitment exercise for tertiary institutions after discovering that many ad-hoc staff, some who had served for over two decades, were excluded from permanent appointments. He described the situation as “unjust,” noting that the suspension became necessary to address complaints and correct irregularities. With governing councils now fully constituted, he said eligibility was reviewed and a help desk was established to handle grievances.

The governor commended the workers for their patience despite years of earning as little as ₦6,000 monthly. He announced the approval of compensation funds to acknowledge their sacrifices, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring decent wages and providing qualified personnel for quality education. Governor Mutfwang further highlighted the progress made in the sector, including increased admissions and the approval of 19 new degree programmes. He encouraged staff to pursue higher qualifications, assuring them of government support and incentives. The governor urged the newly absorbed workers to uphold dedication and contribute meaningfully to advancing tertiary institutions across the state.

Commissioner for Education, Kachollom Pyam Gang, expressed gratitude to the governor for convening the meeting and for insisting that qualified ad-hoc and casual staff be included in the recruitment exercise. She described Mutfwang as a compassionate and fatherly leader whose decisions reflect genuine concern for workers’ welfare. Gang said the gathering aimed to deepen commitment and motivate staff toward improved performance.

Special Adviser on Labour Activities, Titus Alams, also lauded the governor for restoring hope to long-suffering workers. He acknowledged the role of the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, and institutional heads in ensuring the success of the absorption process. Alams urged the staff to justify the government’s confidence by being diligent, punctual, and supportive of the administration’s vision.

Representing the youth, Hitler Pwajok praised Governor Mutfwang as a leader who prioritizes fairness and youth empowerment. He noted that the governor’s decision had given many young families renewed stability and economic opportunity. He urged beneficiaries to uphold integrity and productivity while praying for God’s blessings upon the governor.

Chairman of the Staff Delegation, Josea Sati, delivered an emotional address, describing the day as the happiest in their lives after 22 years of hardship, neglect, and unanswered pleas. He recalled broken homes, children withdrawn from school, and festive seasons marked by tears. Sati said no previous administration had listened to them until Governor Mutfwang restored their dignity. He pledged unwavering loyalty on behalf of all the workers and prayed for greater upliftment for the governor who, he said, “wiped away their tears” and transformed their lives.

Plateau Leads Nigeria in Malaria Chemoprevention as State Concludes 2025 Review

The Plateau State Ministry of Health, through its State Malaria Elimination Programme (SMEP), on Monday held the 2025 Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) End-of-Round Review Meeting at Crispan Hotels and Apartments, Jos. The session assessed the implementation of the SMC campaign across all 17 local government areas and reviewed data, achievements, and challenges recorded between June and October 2025.

The meeting featured presentations on the 2025 implementation performance, including state malaria data from HMIS, supply chain management, administrative coverage from EOC and DIGIT, as well as discussions on successes, challenges, and recommendations for the next cycle.

Speaking at the event, SMEP Programme Manager NDAK Kizito explained that the SMC campaign—administered to children under 5years —aims to drastically reduce malaria cases during the rainy season when prevalence is highest.

“This medication is given during the peak of the rainy season because that is when malaria transmission is at its highest,” he said. “No child under five should die of malaria. With prevention as our priority, we deployed about 7,878 community drug distributors across the 325 wards in the state to administer the medication house-to-house.”

Kizito noted that Plateau State emerged first among all SMC implementing states in Nigeria, a feat he attributed to strong political will, community engagement, and timely government counterpart funding.

He highlighted the unique involvement of the First Lady, Barr. Helen Manasseh Mutfwang, appointed as the SMC Ambassador, alongside the wives of all 17 LGA chairmen who served as SMC advocates. This, he said, increased awareness and encouraged parents to present their children for treatment.

Looking ahead to 2026, he emphasized the importance of sustaining the programme beyond donor support. “We must prepare for a future where Malaria Consortium may no longer be on ground. Sustainability plans are key,” he added.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Bitrus Hosea, commended the state’s impressive performance, noting that Plateau has maintained top ranking for two consecutive years.

“From the statistics presented, Plateau is doing exceptionally well. The strategies we adopted, including learning from best practices and improving implementation patterns, have clearly yielded results,” he said.

He urged participants to continue supporting government efforts to maintain the state’s leading position.

Also speaking, Rakiya Hassan Kadel, Malaria Focal Person for Wase LGA, expressed gratitude for the support of Malaria Consortium, saying the intervention has significantly reduced cases of anemia, convulsions, and severe malaria among children under five.

She noted that digitalization introduced in the last two years has improved payment processes and data accuracy. “We expect continued digital implementation and more SP+AQ drugs next year due to rising child population,” she added.

The Malaria Focal Person for Jos North LGA, Rayi Lawrence Bitrus, reported improved malaria data quality and reduced disease burden, despite earlier challenges with PMI support. He emphasized the need for government provision of digital tools such as laptops and increased staffing to improve data management.

This year’s review brought together stakeholders including senior officials from the State Ministry of Health, SMEP staff, Director of Public Health, heads of PLASCHEMA and DMA, Executive Secretary of the Primary Healthcare Board, Directors of Primary Healthcare from the 17 LGAs, Roll Back Malaria Managers, field officers from Malaria Consortium, and other SMC programme staff.

The meeting concluded with commitments to strengthen supervision, enhance digital reporting, improve logistics, and sustain the gains recorded as Plateau State prepares for the 2026 SMC round.

According to the sources, some of the officials indicted in the alleged cover-up plot include the State Controller Abdullah Ibrahim; the Officer-in-Charge of Potiskum Prison, ACC Ibrahim Tafida; ASC Sani Seleh Bodejo, the alleged culprit.

When contacted, the state controller of the Nigeria Correctional Services, NCoS, Yobe Command, Abdullahi Ibrahim, denied knowledge of the rape case.

The announcement was contained in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the statement, the decision followed a high-level security meeting held on Sunday in Abuja, attended by heads of the police, army, air force, and the Department of State Services (DSS). Defence HQ Debunks Claims of Plans to Enforce Military Enlistment for Nigerian Youths Aged 18 and Above

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed as fake news the claim that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, plans to forcefully recruit young Nigerians aged 18 and above into the military.

According to the DHQ, the fake statement and video—now circulating widely on social media—were created to defame the Chief of Defence Staff and portray the Nigerian military negatively.

Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Samaila Uba, clarified that the Nigerian military remains a noble institution with thousands of patriotic citizens willingly applying to join its ranks during recruitment exercises conducted across the three services.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Gen. Uba said:

“The attention of the Defence Headquarters has been drawn to the circulation of a fake video depicting a mischievously cloned image of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede.

“In the said video, a malicious statement was attributed to him, alleging that the military intends to forcefully recruit young Nigerians from the age of 18 years against their will.

“This fake statement and video are clearly intended to defame the character of the Chief of Defence Staff and portray the military in a bad light.”

He reiterated that neither the CDS, nor any of the Service Chiefs, nor any member of the Armed Forces of Nigeria made such a statement.

Gen. Uba also warned the public about the dangers of misinformation in an era dominated by artificial intelligence, disinformation, and manipulated media.

He advised Nigerians to verify the authenticity of statements and videos before sharing them, emphasizing that only official Defence Headquarters spokespersons and verified social media handles should be relied upon for credible information.

“All are kindly requested to disregard the fake video and statement in circulation,” he added.
