Tinubu 2027: Arome Assumes FAN DG Role, Vows Nationwide Political Mobilisation

Architect Felix Arome has officially assumed office as the Director-General of the Front Line Alliance Network (FAN), promising to strengthen the organisation’s structures and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Arome took over the leadership of the political support group during a formal handover ceremony following his appointment to head the organisation.

FAN, which has structures across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, has already declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

In his remarks after assuming office, Arome expressed appreciation to the founders of FAN for the confidence reposed in him, assuring members that his administration would focus on expanding and consolidating the organisation’s political structures across the country.

The new Director-General said FAN would work closely with political groups, individuals and organisations aligned with President Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ambition.

He called on members to intensify efforts to establish and strengthen the group’s presence at the grassroots, particularly at the local government level.

Arome also said positions and responsibilities within the organisation would be based on individual capacity, commitment and performance, rather than sentiments or personal considerations.

He further assured members that their dedication, sacrifices and contributions to the growth of FAN would be recognised, as the organisation begins preparations for the 2027 electoral season.

He urged members to remain committed and united as FAN works towards building a stronger nationwide political mobilisation network in support of its preferred candidate.

Alfred Dapal Damiyal Emerges NDC Governorship Candidate for Plateau 2027, Picks Meadkom Dung as Running Mate

Alfred Dapal Damiyal (ADD) has been affirmed as the Governorship Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Plateau State ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with Meadkom Dung Vincent nominated as his running mate.

The affirmation took place on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the NDC State Secretariat in Jos, where delegates and stakeholders of the party gathered to reaffirm their confidence in Damiyal and his capacity to lead the party into the 2027 governorship contest. The exercise was supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), providing institutional oversight to the process.

During the gathering, Meadkom Dung Vincent was also nominated to serve as Damiyal’s running mate, giving the NDC a clear governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.

The affirmation marks a significant milestone in Damiyal’s political journey and provides the NDC with a clear standard-bearer and running mate as the party begins to intensify its preparations, mobilisation and engagement with voters across Plateau State.

Damiyal’s emergence is anchored on his NEWTHINKING philosophy, which advocates a new approach to governance based on accountability, transparency, equity, inclusion, innovation, human-centred development and good governance.

His campaign maintains that Plateau State is at a crossroads and requires leadership capable of responding to contemporary challenges with contemporary solutions.
Damiyal has repeatedly emphasised the need for a fundamental change in the approach to governance, stressing that the state cannot make meaningful progress by relying on outdated methods to address modern problems.

“We cannot continue to apply analogue solutions to digital problems if Plateau is to make meaningful progress. We need a new way of thinking if we desire a new Plateau.”

With extensive professional experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, alongside his background in entrepreneurship and leadership, Damiyal’s supporters believe he brings a combination of professional experience and fresh ideas to the political contest.
His proposed agenda places strong emphasis on security, education, economic development, employment, agriculture, infrastructure, youth empowerment, innovation and accountable governance.

The NDC candidate’s campaign also seeks to build a broad-based movement across Plateau’s 17 local government areas, presenting NEWTHINKING as a platform for creating a safer, more united and prosperous state.

For his supporters, the 2027 election represents an opportunity for Plateau voters to make a deliberate choice about the future direction of the state and to demand leadership focused on development, competence and measurable results.

The affirmation by party delegates and stakeholders, under the supervision of INEC officials, on September 15 therefore marks the beginning of a new phase in the NDC’s campaign, with Damiyal and his nominated running mate, Meadkom Dung Vincent, positioned to take the party’s message directly to the people of Plateau State.

The central message of the campaign remains clear:
ADD, A New Direction. A New Standard. A New Plateau.

Dangote Refinery IPO Draws Over N10bn From Investors Within Hours of Opening

The Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Refinery has recorded a strong early response, with billions of naira reportedly subscribed by thousands of investors within minutes of the offer opening on Monday.

Chairman of Access Holdings, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, disclosed the development during the “Facts Behind the Figures” ceremony held at the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) in Lagos.

Aig-Imoukhuede described the offering as a historic development, noting that data available in the IPO’s data room showed that billions of naira had already been committed by thousands of investors within minutes, or less than an hour, of the opening.

He commended the initiative, describing Dangote Refinery as a significant development with the potential to contribute substantially to Nigeria and the wider African economy.

The NGX Chairman, Umaru Kwairanga, also confirmed the strong investor response, revealing that subscriptions had exceeded N10 billion shortly after the market opened.

“From eight o’clock today, we are talking of over N10 billion and above that have already joined,” Kwairanga said.

The Dangote Refinery IPO, which commenced on September 14 and is scheduled to close on October 13, is targeting $1.6 billion in capital from investors across Africa. The company is aiming to attract up to 10 million shareholders, with a proposed listing expected in November.

The proceeds from the offering will be used to expand the refinery’s crude oil processing capacity from its current 700,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2030.

The offering is being described as the largest initial public share sale in Africa. The refinery has been valued at approximately $49 billion, and its proposed listing could significantly increase the market capitalisation of the NGX.

At the opening of trading on Monday, the NGX had a market capitalisation of about N157.6 trillion. Analysts expect the eventual listing of Dangote Refinery to substantially boost the size and depth of Nigeria’s capital market.

Africa’s richest man and founder of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, officially declared the market and “Facts Behind the Figures” ceremony open at about 9:35 a.m. West African Time in Lagos.

The ceremony attracted several prominent business and financial leaders, including Dangote Refinery CEO David Bird; Dangote Group’s Vice President for Oil, Gas and Fertiliser, Edwin Devakumar; Nairobi Securities Exchange CEO Frank Nwiti; Botswana Stock Exchange Chairperson Neo Mooki; and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

Others in attendance included Zenith Bank founder and chairman Jim Ovia, former African Export-Import Bank President Benedict Okey Oramah, and Zenith Bank CEO Adaora Umeoji.

Farmer Loses Hand in Alleged Attack Over Fallen Cow in Plateau

A farmer, identified as Yakubu Bitrus, has reportedly lost one of his hands after he was allegedly attacked by suspected Fulani herders in Agingi community, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Bitrus, who narrated his ordeal from a hospital where he is receiving treatment, said the incident followed a disagreement over a cow that had reportedly fallen into a ditch.

According to the farmer, the incident occurred while he was working on his farm alongside two women. During a break, a young herder reportedly approached them and asked for their assistance to rescue a cow that had become trapped.

Bitrus said he declined to immediately follow the herder, explaining that he was the only man among the group and could not leave the two women unattended. He instead advised the herder to seek assistance from other farmers in the area so they could collectively rescue the animal.

He alleged that the herder became angry, insisting that they follow him immediately because the cow could die if help was delayed.

Bitrus said the situation escalated when the herder allegedly began insulting him and chased him with a stick and machete. Suspecting that the man might have accomplices nearby, he said he and the two women fled rather than engage in a confrontation.

The farmer said they later returned to the area with other people to assist with rescuing the cow, but neither the animal nor the herders could be found.

He alleged that the herders had instead hidden nearby and monitored their movements.

Bitrus said the attack occurred later in the day as he, his wife and another woman were returning home from the farm.

According to him, his wife briefly left the road to gather firewood while he waited with the other woman. Shortly afterwards, he heard his wife screaming and rushed towards her.

He alleged that he found the attackers assaulting his wife and hitting her on the head.

Bitrus said he picked up a piece of wood and intervened in an attempt to protect his wife and escape from the attackers. A struggle reportedly followed, initially involving sticks.

He alleged that additional herders then emerged from the bush and joined the assault. During the confrontation, one of the attackers allegedly used a machete to cut off his hand.

The attackers reportedly fled into the bush afterwards, while Bitrus was left injured and later taken to a hospital for medical attention.

The allegations could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report. Authorities are yet to publicly establish the circumstances surrounding the incident or announce any arrests in connection with the alleged attack.

Husband Seeks Divorce After Co-Landlord Allegedly Claimed He Slept With His Wife

A man identified as Obinna has asked a Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, to dissolve his marriage after accusing his wife, Chidinma, of infidelity, irresponsible behaviour and allegedly threatening his life.

Obinna told the court that his decision to end the marriage followed a shocking revelation by a fellow landlord in their neighbourhood, who allegedly confessed to having an affair with Chidinma.

According to the husband, the man claimed Chidinma had told him that Obinna was dead before entering into the alleged relationship with him.

Obinna said the revelation left him devastated, particularly because he claimed to have invested heavily in his wife’s welfare and financial independence.

He told the court that he paid ₦490,000 as her bride price and later constructed a shop in front of their home for her, stocking it with goods to enable her to earn an income.

The petitioner alleged that despite his efforts to provide for his wife, she betrayed his trust and subsequently became involved in behaviour he considered harmful to their family.

“My lord, my wife has betrayed the trust I had in her,” Obinna told the court.

He further alleged that Chidinma took to excessive drinking and sometimes drank to stupor, adding that he believed her conduct was negatively influencing their children.

The husband also accused his wife of turning their children against him, claiming she had poisoned their minds through constant instigation.

Obinna said the alleged affair had also made him fearful for his safety, forcing him to stop eating meals prepared at home because he believed his life could be at risk.

He told the court that his wife temporarily left the matrimonial home after he confronted her over the allegation but later returned.

Despite the challenges, Obinna said he was no longer interested in continuing the marriage and urged the court to allow both parties to go their separate ways.

He also asked the court to order Chidinma to vacate his house, while offering to pay one year’s rent for her new accommodation.

Chidinma was not present in court despite reportedly being served with the court processes.

The court president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, subsequently adjourned the matter and ordered that a fresh hearing notice be issued and served on the defendant.

The case will now continue with the defendant expected to have an opportunity to respond to the allegations against her.

Lingzhi Global Coffee: From Laminga Farm to the Cup, How Coffee Production Creates Jobs Across Africa

From planting and nurturing coffee seedlings to harvesting, processing, roasting and marketing, Lingzhi Global Coffee is expanding the coffee value chain in Plateau State while creating employment opportunities for farmers, harvesters, processors, roasters, marketers and other workers.

Speaking during an interview with 4wardwego Blog at the Lingzhi Global Coffee Farm in Laminga, Jos East, the Farm Manager, Saminu Musa Santana, explained that the farm currently covers about four hectares and is focused on producing quality and healthy coffee.

Santana said coffee production begins with careful cultivation and soil management, including the application of organic manure and appropriate farm inputs to support healthy plant growth.

According to him, after planting and nurturing the coffee plants through their growth cycle, the farm eventually moves into the harvesting stage when the coffee cherries are mature and ready for collection.

The harvested coffee then undergoes several stages of processing before it becomes the familiar coffee product consumed by customers.

The process involves harvesting the ripe coffee cherries, processing and washing them, preparing and drying the beans before they are taken through roasting. The roasted beans are subsequently processed into coffee suitable for consumption.

Santana explained that the journey from the farm to the final cup involves several categories of workers, making coffee production an important source of livelihood for communities around the farm.

He noted that Lingzhi Global Coffee’s activities extend beyond its own workforce, as farmers, seasonal harvesters, workers in processing and washing units, roasters, marketers and other service providers benefit from the expanding coffee value chain.

The farm manager also highlighted the company’s commitment to responsible coffee production, stressing that Lingzhi Global follows the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) coffee compliance requirements as part of its efforts to promote responsible and traceable coffee production.

He said adherence to such standards is important as the company works with farmers and other stakeholders to ensure that coffee production meets required quality and sustainability expectations.

Beyond coffee production, Santana acknowledged that the sector faces challenges, particularly those associated with farming, labour and the wider production process. However, he maintained that continued investment in coffee cultivation and processing could create even more opportunities for local communities.

With coffee moving through a chain that includes cultivation, harvesting, processing, roasting and marketing, Lingzhi Global’s Laminga operation demonstrates how agricultural value addition can generate employment while positioning Plateau State as a potential hub for quality coffee production.

The initiative also underscores the growing importance of developing local agricultural products from the farm level through to finished consumer products, creating economic opportunities at virtually every stage of the value chain.

National Assembly Freezes South Africa Ties Over Xenophobic Attacks on Nigerians

Nigeria’s National Assembly has taken a strong stance against renewed xenophobic attacks in South Africa, ordering an immediate suspension of all official parliamentary engagements with the country until further notice.

The directive means senators, members of the House of Representatives, committees and National Assembly officials will no longer participate in official visits, conferences, seminars, workshops or legislative exchange programmes hosted in South Africa.

The suspension also extends to virtual and online parliamentary engagements involving South African legislative authorities.

The decision followed consultations between the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives over growing reports of Nigerians and other African nationals being killed, injured, displaced and forced to abandon businesses and properties in South Africa.

In a statement signed by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, the legislature expressed concern that repeated diplomatic interventions had failed to prevent the recurrence of xenophobic violence.

The National Assembly said the measure was necessary to send a clear message about Nigeria’s concern for the safety, dignity and welfare of its citizens living and doing legitimate business in South Africa.

“The leadership has directed the Clerk to issue the necessary communication to senators, members of the House of Representatives, committees, departments, directorates, officials and staff to ensure strict compliance,” the statement said.

The suspension will remain in place pending a review by the leadership, depending on developments surrounding the situation.

The latest parliamentary action comes after months of escalating concerns over the safety of Nigerians in South Africa.

Nigeria had earlier commenced the evacuation of citizens affected by the renewed violence, with the first batch of 258 Nigerians arriving in Lagos on June 11.

By July 9, approximately 1,000 Nigerians had reportedly returned home after voluntarily registering for the evacuation programme and undergoing government screening.

The exercise continued in August, with additional groups of 83 and 67 Nigerians arriving in Lagos following further incidents of violence.

Government agencies subsequently received the returnees for documentation, profiling and reunification with their families.

Nigeria has also intensified diplomatic pressure on South Africa, demanding stronger action to protect foreign nationals and prosecute those responsible for xenophobic attacks.

The Nigerian government has further begun documenting businesses and properties reportedly abandoned by citizens who fled South Africa, amid efforts to explore possible compensation.

President Bola Tinubu has also raised the matter at the continental level, calling for collective African action against xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks.

Tinubu urged the African Union to place the issue on the agenda of its 40th Ordinary Session scheduled for January 2027.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has similarly condemned the mistreatment of Nigerians and other African nationals while stressing Nigeria’s continued preference for dialogue and peaceful diplomatic engagement.

Despite the suspension, the National Assembly stressed that its decision should not be interpreted as an attempt to sever Nigeria’s longstanding historical, diplomatic and people-to-people relations with South Africa.

Rather, lawmakers described the measure as a firm expression of concern over the treatment of Nigerians in the country.

The legislature called on South African authorities to urgently strengthen the protection of Nigerians and other African nationals, investigate reported attacks, arrest suspected perpetrators and ensure that those found guilty face prosecution.

The National Assembly also urged state Houses of Assembly across Nigeria to take note of the resolution and consider adopting similar measures.

It said it would continue monitoring developments and taking steps deemed necessary to protect the safety and welfare of Nigerians living in South Africa.
