Plateau Declares 6pm–6am Curfew in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, Mangu

The Plateau State Government has imposed an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas following emerging security concerns in parts of the state.

The curfew, which takes effect Monday, September 21, 2026, restricts movement in the affected local government areas from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily until further notice.

The state government said the measure is intended to enable security agencies to stabilise the affected areas, protect lives and property, and prevent further breakdown of law and order.

The directive comes amid reports of fresh attacks in parts of Plateau State. At least nine people were reportedly killed in separate incidents across Barkin Ladi, Riyom and surrounding communities between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

According to the government, residents in the three affected LGAs are expected to comply fully with the restriction and plan their commercial, agricultural and personal activities around the curfew hours.

Security operatives have also been directed to strictly enforce the curfew, as well as an immediate ban on the use of motorcycles throughout the affected jurisdictions.

The government assured law-abiding residents that security personnel would carry out the enforcement professionally while working to restore normalcy.

The directive was contained in a statement signed by Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, mni, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Plateau State, dated September 21, 2026.

The latest measure follows heightened security concerns in communities within and around Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu, with authorities seeking to prevent further escalation of violence.

Federal High Court Nullifies ADC Primary for Mangu North East, Orders Fresh Election Within 14 Days

JOS, PLATEAU STATE September 18, 2026
Aspirant for the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mangu North East Constituency, Hon. Plangnan Damshakal, has welcomed a Federal High Court judgment nullifying the African Democratic Congress (ADC) primary election for the constituency and ordering the conduct of a fresh primary election within 14 days.

The judgment, delivered on September 16, 2026, by Hon. Justice S.T. Ishaya of the Federal High Court, Jos Judicial Division, followed a suit filed by Hon. Plangnan challenging the conduct of the ADC primary election for Mangu North East Constituency.

In Suit No. FHC/J/CS/55/2026, between Hon. Plangnan Damshakal (Plaintiff/Applicant) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mahmud Zakari, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) (Defendants/Respondents), the court granted the major declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought by the plaintiff.

According to the judgment, the court held that the purported declaration of Mahmud Zakari as the ADC candidate for Mangu North East Constituency in the 2027 General Election was unlawful, unconstitutional, invalid, null, and void due to non-compliance with the Electoral Act, the ADC Constitution, and the party’s guidelines.

The court further ruled that the ADC failed to conduct a valid primary election across the eight wards that make up Mangu North East Constituency on May 23, 2026, and declared that the results announced on May 24, 2026, were fabricated and therefore invalid.

Additionally, the court found that Hon. Plangnan and other ADC members in the constituency were unlawfully disenfranchised and held that the declaration and return of Mahmud Zakari as winner of the primary election was unlawful, invalid, null, and void.

As part of its orders, the court set aside the declaration and return of Mahmud Zakari as the ADC candidate for Mangu North East Constituency and directed the party to conduct a fresh, credible, and lawful primary election in strict compliance with all applicable laws and party guidelines within 14 days of the judgment.

The court also restrained INEC from recognizing, accepting, or acting upon the purported nomination arising from the invalid process and awarded costs of ₦300,000 in favour of the plaintiff against the first and second defendants jointly and severally.

While addressing journalists, party leaders, supporters, and members of the public following the judgment, Hon. Plangnan described the ruling as a victory for democracy, due process, and the rights of party members.

“This is not simply a personal victory,” she said. “It is a victory for due process. It is a victory for internal democracy. It is a victory for every party member who believes that their vote should count. Above all, it is a victory for the principle that political power must come through the will of the people and not through manipulation of the democratic process.”

The aspirant explained that her decision to challenge the process was motivated by a desire to protect the integrity of the party’s democratic structures.

“I did not go to court because I wanted to fight anybody. I went to court because I believed the process was worth defending. After raising concerns about the conduct of the primary election, I pursued the internal mechanisms available within our party. When those efforts did not produce the necessary remedy, I chose the lawful path of seeking justice through the courts,” she stated.

Hon. Plangnan expressed appreciation to the Nigerian judiciary for providing citizens with a lawful avenue to resolve disputes and defend democratic principles.

She also thanked her legal team, supporters, party members, friends, and family members for their encouragement and steadfast support throughout the legal process.

“To the women who prayed and encouraged me, to the young people who refused to lose hope, to party members, friends, family, and everyone who stood with me publicly or privately, I am deeply grateful,” she said.

Plangnan emphasized that the judgment should not be viewed as the defeat of any individual but rather as the restoration of a transparent and credible democratic process.

“The court has ordered a fresh primary election. When that process takes place, I will return to the people. I will present my ideas, my vision, and my record, and allow delegates and party members to make their choice freely,” she said.

Responding to questions from journalists, she reaffirmed her confidence in the African Democratic Congress and its leadership.

“I believe strongly in the leadership of the ADC. If I did not believe in the credibility of the party, I would not have joined it. I believe in the party’s internal mechanisms and in its capacity to provide a platform for democratic participation and good governance,” she stated.

Asked whether the dispute could negatively affect the party ahead of future elections, Plangnan argued that the judgment demonstrates the party’s ability to address disagreements through democratic and lawful means.

“This situation shows that the ADC is capable of resolving internal disputes through due process. Rather than weakening the party, it demonstrates our commitment to democracy, accountability, and the rule of law,” she said.

The Certified True Copy of the judgment was issued on September 18, 2026.

Hon. Plangnan concluded by calling on all stakeholders to ensure that the forthcoming primary election is peaceful, transparent, credible, and conducted in strict accordance with the law and party guidelines.

“Today we have secured a judgment, but the greater victory will be when every member of our party can participate in a process where their voice matters and their vote counts. That is the democracy we must continue to build,” she said.

Abia Women Protest Alleged Destruction of Farms by Herdsmen

Women from Obinolu Ngodo in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State have protested at the local government secretariat over alleged destruction of their farmlands by herdsmen.

The protesters, who came from different villages in Obinolu, accused herders of invading their farms, uprooting cassava tubers and feeding them to cattle.

They also alleged that large herds of cattle had trampled on other crops, raising concerns over food security and the potential impact on livelihoods in the community.

Carrying cassava stems they said were uprooted from their farms, the women marched to the Umunneochi Local Government headquarters in Nkwoagu, where they appealed to the government to intervene.

The protesters said the alleged farm invasion had persisted in recent weeks, adding that many farmers were becoming afraid to access their farmlands because of the presence of herdsmen.

Some of the placards displayed during the protest read: “Our people may die of hunger,” “We are now afraid to enter our farms,” “We don’t want Fulani herdsmen in our farms,” and “Government, save us now.”

Responding to the protesters, Chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Sunny Afurobi, acknowledged receiving similar reports of farm destruction from another community.

Afurobi assured the women that the local government would investigate the allegations and work towards addressing the situation.

He said the Abia State Government, under Governor Alex Otti, remained committed to protecting residents and addressing security concerns across the state.

“We will investigate the problem because we cannot abandon our farms,” Afurobi told the protesters.

Islamic Family Foundation Expands Community Outreach, Builds Multi-Billion-Naira Halal Centre in Abuja

The Islamic Family Foundation (IFF) has intensified its humanitarian and community development activities in Abuja, combining medical outreach, feeding programmes and family-centred Islamic education with the construction of a major multi-purpose facility in Wasa District of the Federal Capital Territory.

The foundation said its activities are aimed at translating Islamic values into practical community service while creating sustainable platforms for spiritual development, education, healthcare, family support and economic empowerment.

Among its key programmes are regular medical outreaches that provide free consultations, basic treatments, health education and wellness support to underserved communities across the FCT.

According to the foundation, the initiative is designed to bring essential healthcare closer to people who may face challenges accessing medical facilities.

The medical outreach programmes have also received support from partners, including the PAYIMO Charity Foundation.

Beyond healthcare, IFF operates regular feeding programmes for people in need, providing food support throughout the year and increasing interventions during periods of heightened economic and seasonal pressures.

The foundation said the feeding initiative is driven by the Islamic emphasis on caring for neighbours, vulnerable people and members of the wider community.

Speaking on the organisation’s broader vision, Imam Musa Da’ud said the foundation seeks to establish a comprehensive platform for the Muslim family.

“The vision of the organisation is a one-stop centre for the Muslim family, covering spiritual guidance, social enterprise, mentoring, capacity building, physical wellness, nutritional care and education, and emotional support.”

The foundation also holds weekly Usrah sessions every Sunday, bringing together families, young adults and children for discussions on Islamic teachings, personal development, family relationships and contemporary social issues.

The sessions provide an avenue for parents and children to learn together, strengthen family bonds and discuss issues affecting families and communities.

IFF has also called on members of the Muslim Ummah to promote patience, understanding and mutual support in their relationships, particularly when dealing with disagreements and difficult circumstances.

The foundation said these values are essential for strengthening social cohesion and building resilient communities amid growing social and economic pressures.

Wasa International Halal Centre

At the centre of the foundation’s long-term plans is the ongoing construction of the International Halal Centre in Wasa District, Abuja.

The proposed multi-billion-naira complex is expected to include a mosque, school and other facilities dedicated to education, social enterprise and community development.

According to the foundation, the centre is designed to become a comprehensive hub for spiritual development, Islamic studies, information technology and skills acquisition, family counselling, mentoring, welfare services, agriculture and food-related projects.

The project will also incorporate green and sustainable energy solutions as part of its long-term development strategy.

When completed, IFF said the facility will serve families and communities in Abuja and beyond while creating opportunities for learning, skills development, social enterprise and economic empowerment.

Call for Support

The Islamic Family Foundation is appealing to individuals, philanthropists, businesses, community organisations and Nigerians in the diaspora to support the completion of the Wasa project.

The foundation is seeking financial contributions, wills and legacies, partnerships, building materials, equipment, IT resources and professional expertise.

It also welcomes individuals and organisations willing to contribute their time and skills towards the development of the centre.

IFF said the combination of immediate humanitarian interventions and long-term institution-building reflects its commitment to creating sustainable opportunities and strengthening families and communities.

Through its medical outreaches, feeding programmes, weekly Usrah gatherings and the planned Wasa facility, the foundation hopes to build a lasting platform for worship, learning, family development and community welfare.

Lingzhi Global, NACOFTAN Announce 2026 Coffee Festival in Cross River

Lingzhi Global Nigeria Ltd. has announced plans to hold the second edition of the Coffee Festival International Nigeria in Calabar, Cross River State, from October 30 to November 1, 2026, as part of efforts to promote coffee production and expand opportunities across the value chain.

The festival, organised in collaboration with the National Coffee and Tea Association of Nigeria, NACOFTAN, will be held under the theme, “Coffee Sustainability and Empowerment: Focusing on Women and Youth Development,” with emphasis on skills development, community development and job creation.

The Chief Executive Officer of Lingzhi Global, Mrs. Blessing Nanman, disclosed this at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, saying the event would bring together coffee stakeholders, investors and international participants to explore opportunities in farming, processing, packaging, marketing and export.

“Farmers have gone to work. Some processors are already at the verge of breaking through. This is the time where we want to invite all investors, partners and international organisations to support us in the coffee industry,” Nanman said.

She said the maiden edition attracted participants from different countries, while the 2026 festival is expected to draw representatives from about 30 countries. According to her, the event would further define opportunities within the coffee value chain and encourage local consumption of coffee.

Nanman said Lingzhi Global was also expanding its coffee business through the establishment of coffee shops, noting that the outlets had become platforms where communities, families and people from different backgrounds could connect over coffee.

She said Cross River was selected to host the second edition because of its potential for coffee production and the state government’s efforts to expand cultivation through the distribution of millions of coffee seedlings.

Speaking on the forthcoming festival, Cross River State Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Hon. Johnson Ebokpo, commended Lingzhi Global for its role in promoting coffee and tea development in the state and for working with stakeholders to strengthen the sector.

He said the company had contributed efforts to improve farmers’ access to seedlings, knowledge and markets, describing its partnership with the state as important to the development of the coffee value chain.

“We are pleased to be collaborating with Lingzhi Global, organisers of the International Coffee Festival, and NACOFTAN,” Ebokpo said.

The commissioner said the festival would give Cross River greater visibility as a coffee-producing destination while creating opportunities for women and young people to participate in the industry.

“This is also an opportunity for us to use the festival as a platform to create jobs for our people, particularly women and youths, while providing them with opportunities to learn more and develop their skills,” he said.

Ebokpo said the coffee industry extends beyond farming to processing, packaging and export, stressing that young people could create businesses and develop their own brands by participating in different stages of the value chain.

He said Cross River has about 23,000 square kilometres of arable land suitable for coffee development and has the agro-ecological advantage of producing both Arabica and Robusta varieties. He added that the state plans to distribute at least 30 million coffee seedlings over five years.

President of NACOFTAN, Dr. Hassan Usman, said the festival would provide an opportunity for Nigerian stakeholders to exchange knowledge and technology with international players in the coffee industry.

“The Coffee Festival is not only Nigerian in inclusion, but international. We have people coming from Brazil, Indonesia, Kenya and all the countries. The globe will be around with us,” Usman said.

Usman also commended Lingzhi Global for taking stakeholders across the country and beyond to gain knowledge in coffee processing and marketing, saying the company had played a critical role in connecting Nigerian stakeholders with international opportunities.

He said stakeholders would use the gathering to strategise on strengthening the coffee value chain and changing the narrative around coffee production in Nigeria, while calling for greater participation from government agencies, investors and other stakeholders.

The 2026 Coffee Festival International Nigeria is expected to bring together farmers, processors, roasters, investors, experts and other stakeholders from Nigeria and abroad for three days of knowledge-sharing, networking and promotion of the coffee industry.

PEPSA Begins Final Seven-Day Abatement Notice for Households Without Functional Toilets in Jos South

The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has commenced the service of final abatement notices to households in Jos South Local Government Area that do not have functional toilet facilities.

The enforcement action is being carried out under the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) Programme, following sustained efforts by the agency to improve sanitation compliance across affected communities.

According to PEPSA, the agency had previously engaged households and community leaders through sensitisation campaigns, public education, advocacy and meetings with household representatives on the importance of providing and using proper toilet facilities.

The agency also provided assistance to vulnerable households that faced difficulties in meeting the requirement, including the construction of new toilet facilities and upgrading of existing ones.

However, PEPSA said some households have remained without functional toilets despite the interventions and opportunities provided to enable compliance.

With the process now entering its final stage, affected households served with the abatement notices have seven days from the date of service to provide functional toilet facilities and comply with applicable sanitation requirements.

PEPSA warned that households that fail to comply within the stipulated seven-day period will face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The agency urged all affected households to use the final compliance window to immediately provide functional toilets and avoid enforcement action.

PEPSA Director General, Samuel Nathaniel Dapiya, said the agency had engaged, educated, advocated and provided support where necessary, stressing that the next phase would be enforcement.

He reiterated that every household is required to have a functional toilet facility, adding that compliance with sanitation standards is mandatory.
