The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has warned about an imminent food crisis in the South-West region of Nigeria due to the onslaught on farmers by Fulani herdsmen.
Adams stated that farmers in attack-prone areas have stopped going to their farms for fear of being assailed by suspected herders.
“They have discouraged Yoruba people from farming now and if care is not taken within one year, there will be famine in Yorubaland,”Adams said on Wednesday, January 27, while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
The situation in the South-West as “a serious invasion”; adding that drastic measures must be taken quickly to stop the ugly trend, the Yoruba leader bemoaned.
“We have been seriously infiltrated by Fulani herdsmen. Most of the reserved forests have been taken over by the Fulani herdsmen; and a lot of ugly things are happening from those places. So, all hands must be on the deck to make sure these public incidents are taken care of,” he said.
Furthermore, Adams blamed the original Fulani dwellers in host Yoruba communities for the infiltration and incessant killings; kidnappings; rape; as well as sundry crimes.
According to him, they were complicit in criminal activities; because they failed to expose the intruders in their midst.
“Majorly, we have some Fulani people that have been living with us peacefully for the past 100 years. We have about two or three generations of Fulani people living with us peacefully.
“But we have witnessed strange incidents for the past seven years; and the Fulani people living with us peacefully did not give us intelligence report; about the criminal activities of the people that came into the different communities in Yorubaland,” he explained.
Adams, who said he foresaw the invasion of herdsmen in the South-West region three years, said, “We cannot allow what is happening in the North-West and North-East to happen in the South-West. Don’t forget that Yorubaland is the commercial nerve centre of the economy of this country. So, the Federal Government must know the implication of this economic threat to the region.”

Chief Of Army Staff, Major-General Attahiru
Before the appointment of Maj Gen Attahiru Ibrahim as the new Chief of Army Staff, he was incharge of the 82 Division, Nigerian Army. Maj Gen Attahiru Ibrahim was appointed to lead the offensive against Boko Haram in the North-East in May 2017. He was later replaced with another general, Nicholas Rogers, who led a special military and police force to tackle ethnic clashes in the volatile central region.
Here is a report about Major General Attahiru Ibrahim by The Cable in December 2017.
Army replaces commander in war against Boko Haram after six months. Attahiru Ibrahim, a major general, has been removed from his position as the theatre commander of the Lafiya Dole operation. TheCable understands that Ibrahim has been replaced by Rogers Nicholas, a major general who was formerly in charge of logistics at the army headquarters. Ibrahim is expected to resume as deputy chief of policy and plans at the army headquarters. His removal is said to be linked to the seeming inefficiency of his command in tackling the Boko Haram insurgency. In May, he took over the theatre command from Lucky Irabor who is now coordinating the multinational joint task force (MNJTF). Since then, suicide bombings and attacks on military formations have been on the rise.
In June, barely a month after Ibrahim took over, Boko Haram insurgents attacked Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. The month after, a group of geologists and technologists from the University of Maiduguri were ambushed by Boko Haram insurgents at Magumeri area of Borno state. About 12 soldiers who escorted the academics were reportedly killed. Some members of staff of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on the team were also killed in the brutal ambush.
Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff, in August gave a 40-day ultimatum for Ibrahim and his troops to capture Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the Boko Haram sect, but this is yet to be achieved. Months after the army chief had ordered the capture of Shekau, the sect, using four female suicide bombers, attacked Muna Gari, a suburb of Maiduguri, killing about 14 persons. Series of attacks were also carried out in Adamawa state. About 40 people were killed when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives in a mosque in Yola. A unit commander of the army and about 15 soldiers were killed in November when the insurgents attacked a military unit in Sassawa, Yobe state. A recent attack was carried out in Biu, Borno state, where two suicide bombers detonated their explosives in a market, killing about 18 people.

The self-appointed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has fingered 62 prominent Nigerians for the current challenges bedeviling the nation.
The controversial IPOB leader made this disclosure in a post on his Facebook page.
Nnamdi Kanu revealed that the people in his list must be held responsible for the current state of the nation; even as he held that their roles in ensuring the ouster of former President Goodluck Jonathan; as well as the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari at the polls in 2015 made them culpable. He added that anyone whose villages, cities, or town is currently under siege by Fulani herdsmen should hold these people responsible.
Nnamdi Kanu accused the 62 Nigerians of misleading others in installing Buhari.
“These people went to school [they claim they are educated]. Many of them are professors. Some claimed to have direct access to God. Some are gifted with ‘prophesies.’ They read history. They understood international relations. And they understood how societies work or so we thought.
“They were more than 20 years old in 1983 when Buhari shot himself to power. They saw Buhari destroy the economy in 1983…If Buhari was not speaking and defending his Fulani heritage he would be fighting to defend his religious heritage.
“Never for once did he defend Nigeria or gave interview on how to rebuild the economy, education, power, health, etc. They saw everything this man did. They knew him too well to miss the little details of his violent life. But they were united in hatred.
“Hatred for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. One among the few Nigeria leaders that actually wanted Nigeria to work.’’
On the list generated by Nnamdi Kanu are Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministries, Enugu; former President Olusegun Obasanjo; a former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili; former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore; a former Presidential candidate, Fela Durotoye; former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke; former CBN Governor, Professor Charles Soludo; Pastor Tunde Bakare and Pastor Sunday Adelaja.

Former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba on Sunday, January, 25, berated the Federal Government over the escalating crisis amongst herdsmen and farmers across the country.
Adamu Garba made this assertion via a series of tweets while speaking against the system of cattle rearing that sees the animals roaming in streets.
He said that despite him being a Fulani, a tribe known to be into such practices, he still doesn’t find sense in such.
Adamu Garba said, “I’m a Fulani man, but I can tell you that it doesn’t make sense for cows to be roaming the streets in 2021. Cows should be ranched on a land acquired or rented by the ranchers. By law, land can only be used through rent or purchase. Govt should step forward & clear this out.
“I believe, to reconcile the raging herders crisis is to open proper communication where each knows the laws of the land. All lands in Nigeria, including forests belongs to some entity, FG, SGs, LGs, Company’s or individuals. Thus no land can be used without proper authorization.”
He also blamed the Fulani elite for its refusal to provide ranches; which would have likewise reduced the rate of itinerant herders across the country.
“The problem of the Fulani herders is a betrayal from the city Fulanis, who decided, after moving to cities; acquiring wealth & power, but forget to carry the village brothers along; leaving them in a desperate situation. The rich Fulanis must come together & get ranching lands.
“Land issue is as old as humanity, no any state power can give land to anyone where the land is been identified with owners for generations, without purchasing or renting. The rich Fulani’s must come together & assist our fellow brothers to get reaching land or forest for grazing
“Lack of proper communication to the herders in understanding the law of land use; by bringing the surrounding communities onboard isn’t good enough. It may well be a breeding ground for cyclical conflicts; a very ripe situation for civil war. This must be avoided AT ALL COST,” Adamu Garba stated.
