Riyom APC Youths Endorse Tinubu, Mutfwang, Dalyop Fom for Continuity Ahead of 2027

The Riyom APC Youth Council has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and the member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Dalyop Fom Chollom, for continuity in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced during a press conference held on Tuesday, where the group said its decision followed extensive consultations with party elders, stakeholders, youths, women groups, and community leaders across Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas.

Speaking on behalf of the council, Chairman of the Riyom APC Youth Council, Comrade Pam Nuhu Daniel, alongside the Secretary, Comrade Patience Shishang Chaimang, declared total support for President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term, citing what they described as bold economic reforms and strategic efforts aimed at repositioning Nigeria.

The youth council also endorsed Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo for a second term in office, commending the Plateau State administration for achievements in infrastructure, peacebuilding, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, and youth engagement.

According to the council, the Mutfwang administration has demonstrated commitment toward rebuilding Plateau State despite prevailing economic and security challenges.

On the Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency seat, the council threw its weight behind Hon. Engr. Dalyop Fom Chollom for a second term in the House of Representatives.

The group said its decision was in line with resolutions reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held at Jonggrand Hotel, Bukuru, on April 28, 2026, where political leaders from Riyom and Barkin Ladi reportedly agreed that Barkin Ladi should retain the House of Representatives seat in 2027, while Riyom would take its turn from 2031 to 2039.

The council described Hon. Dalyop Fom Chollom as a performing lawmaker who has demonstrated accessibility, effective representation, youth empowerment, healthcare support, and commitment to constituency development.

They argued that returning an experienced lawmaker would strengthen representation, attract more federal projects, and sustain ongoing empowerment programmes across the constituency.

The Riyom APC Youth Council also called on all political actors, youths, elders, and stakeholders within the constituency to remain united and avoid divisive politics capable of threatening the peace and political harmony between Riyom and Barkin Ladi LGAs.

The group further condemned the recent attacks in communities including Rim, Jol, Bachit, Fan, and Nding in Riyom and parts of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, describing the killings and destruction of property as barbaric and unacceptable.

They urged security agencies to intensify efforts toward apprehending perpetrators of the attacks while appealing to youths not to take the law into their hands.

APC Expels 30 Members Over Court Cases Against Party

The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled 30 members for taking legal action against the party without first exploring internal dispute resolution mechanisms.

The decision was announced on Monday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Valentine Iyiegbu, following a State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held in Awka.

According to Iyiegbu, the action was taken in accordance with Article 21, Subsection 5 of the APC constitution, which provides for the expulsion of members who drag the party to court without exhausting internal channels.

He revealed that several of those affected are aspirants seeking the party’s tickets for National Assembly positions, particularly House of Representatives seats, adding that their expulsion may jeopardize their chances of participating in the upcoming primaries.

Iyiegbu stated that the SEC ratified the expulsions after concluding that the affected members failed to follow laid-down party procedures before filing their lawsuits.

He, however, noted that the party may reconsider its position if the aggrieved members withdraw their court cases.

The APC spokesman also disclosed that aspirants have emerged for all 11 House of Representatives seats and the three Senate seats in Anambra State.

Meanwhile, the party also approved the appointment of a five-member primary election committee headed by the State Organising Secretary, Izuchukwu Okeke.

INEC to Deploy 1.4 Million Corps Members for 2027 General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to deploy over 1.4 million ad hoc staff, largely drawn from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), for the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this during a strategic courtesy visit to the NYSC headquarters at Yakubu Gowon House in Abuja, where he led a high-powered delegation of National Commissioners, directors, and senior aides.

The delegation was received by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, alongside members of the scheme’s senior management team.

Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Amupitan described the visit as more than a routine engagement, calling it “a mission of profound gratitude” to an institution that has remained central to the conduct of elections in Nigeria.

He noted that corps members have consistently formed the backbone of INEC’s election workforce since 1999, particularly serving as Presiding Officers and Registration Area Officers across polling units nationwide.

According to the INEC chairman, the commission deployed about 1.2 million ad hoc staff during the 2023 general elections, with more than 70 per cent — nearly 850,000 personnel — made up of corps members and student volunteers.

Providing details of preparations for the 2027 elections, Amupitan revealed that INEC would require 707,384 corps members for the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, and another 707,384 personnel for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections fixed for February 6, 2027.

He added that additional personnel would also be needed for off-cycle governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states, as well as bye-elections expected in Nasarawa, Enugu, Rivers, Ondo, Kebbi, and Kano states.

The INEC chairman commended corps members for their patriotism, neutrality, discipline, and technological competence, particularly in operating the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

“In many states, corps members accounted for nearly 90 per cent of Registration Area Officers and Presiding Officers. They protected the sanctity of the ballot across 176,846 polling units nationwide,” he said.

Amupitan also acknowledged the risks associated with election duties and assured the NYSC leadership that INEC was committed to improving welfare packages, insurance coverage, and security arrangements for corps members deployed during elections.

Responding, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu praised the long-standing partnership between the two institutions, describing corps members as “credible, reliable, patriotic, and easily trainable manpower.”

He assured INEC of the scheme’s continued support in delivering free, fair, and credible elections across the country.

Nafiu further noted that the outgoing generation of millennials in the scheme would soon be replaced by digitally skilled Gen Z corps members whose ICT proficiency would further strengthen modern electoral operations.

He, however, appealed for better welfare, compensation, and insurance packages for corps members participating in election assignments, stressing that adequate support would motivate them to continue serving the nation diligently.

The NYSC Director-General reaffirmed the scheme’s commitment to mobilising corps members and administrative personnel for the forthcoming elections as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
